Dusty Springfield - No Stranger Am I Lyrics
No stranger am I
You enter my world
I hear flowers sing
No emptiness now
You enter my world
Sing joyous
I feel you 'er I sing
No unending time alone
No stranger am I
You open my eyes
I feel laughter ring
No longer alone
You open my heart
Ring joyous
Indifference gone away
No unending time alone
Indifference gone away
No undening time alone

Dusty Springfield No Stranger Am I Comments
Norma Tanega passed away at her home in Claremont, California on December 29th, 2019, she was 80 year old...
She was a folk singer and experimental musician who had a single hit, the 1966 song “Walkin’ My Cat Named Dog.” The track reached No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later covered by artists including Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, Yo La Tengo, and They Might Be Giants...
Her other songs include “You’re Dead,” which was used as the theme song for the 2015 movie 'What We Do in the Shadows'...
Tanega was also a songwriter who wrote and co-wrote songs for Dusty Springfield, with whom she had a romantic relationship, including “No Stranger Am I,” “The Colour of Your Eyes,” and "Midnight Sounds"...
May she R.I.P.
RIP Norma.
The 'B Side' to I close my eyes... Beautiful beyond words.
Utterly stunning.
thank you for this gorgeous song and the slide show of Dusty (and for introducing me to the music of Norma Tanega). Dusty does such a beautiful job; as always. Pure class.
Proof if it was needed that Dusty was the greatest of them all. Her b sides were worthy of A side status, in fact all her singles should have been double A sides. Her choice of material was absolutely incredible.
This sounds like it could have fit perfectly alongside songs Joni Mitchell wrote around the time of her first two albums back in the late 60's. Stunningly beautiful and haunting.
It reminds me of Marcie from the first album.
This is such a plaintive song beautifully orchestrated and brought to life by dusty Springfield.
Quick Question -- does anyone know what the last chord is in the 2nd chorus? During "no" the chord is C or Csus2, I know that much, and during "a-lone" it reverts back to A. It's the "unending time" bit that keeps stumping me.
Weird hearing this version after Norma tanega's. Both are great though.
beautiful and haunting
Nice of Dusty to record this song. She brought it to life.
just found out they had a relation,i know norma's version
longer and i like it more but this is verry good as well,so softly sung.
Norma Tanega wrote so many beautiful songs and for some reason, like Ruthann Friedman -- only lasted for a very short time in the spotlight. I love what Dusty Springfield did for Norma -- and what The Association did for Ruthann (by recording her song and having a hit with "Windy."). These artists gave these singer-songwriters a little piece of musical history that they richly deserved.
Awesome! May I ask the name of the album she's going to release?
Believe it or not Norma and Dusty were lovers for some time, hence the inclusion of numerous Tanega songs in Dusty's canon.
What is the album called? And where can one order it?
@RHAddict - If no one responded: the LP was I Don't Think It Will Hurt If You Smile (RCA, 1971)
@Andrew Pearson - If no one responded: the LP was I Don't Think It Will Hurt If You Smile (RCA, 1971)
Wonderful song beautifully sung. And such a hard song to sing! Masterly.
Couldn't agree more. I rarely ever played the 'B' side to records....And then discovered this beutiful song, by chance.Love the pics'......
@corLTD thank you
@peaces100 - Norma wrote this song before she met Dusty.
does anyone no if 'norma tanega' wrote this song for her.
thanks
Danke schön, Cor!
