Drifters, The - Sweet Caroline Lyrics

Where it began
I can't begin to knowin'
But then I know it's growing strong

Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along

Hands, touchin' hands
Reachin' out
Touchin' me
Touchin' you

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would

But now I
Look at the night
And it don't seem so lonely
We fill it up with only two
And when I hurt
Hurtin' runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when I'm with you

Warm, touchin' warm
Reachin' out
Touchin' me
Touchin' you

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
Oh, no, no

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
Sweet Caroline

Drifters, The Sweet Caroline Comments
  1. J.... B....

    WOW WOW WOW !

From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.

  2. D.... H....

So sad the Drifters Ledgends Show is not going ahead was really looking forward to meeting Butch and Clyde. This song and the Album itself sums up the Drifters at their 70's best. Let's hope it still happens and the current line up is sorted out!!!!!

  3. D.... H....

Bluenote you surprise me this line up was one of the most successful line ups of the late 60's through to the 70's. Bill Fredricks first left who sang lead on "LIke Sister And Brother, Butch Leake in charge of dance routines, Grant Kitchen who sang a brilliant version of Please Stay when I saw them at London's Talk of the Town and of course the great Johnny Moor lead vocalist on most of the hits from that period.

  4. M.... H....

Boogie2w, I agree, thank you for posting this. Of course, I wouldn't have expected less from The Drifters!

  5. V.... E....

Sorry, but, while I love The Drifters and their style, this is not one of their better efforts. IMO

  6. K.... J....

The great Johnny Moore takes Neil's classic to a new level.

  7. b.... j....

it's a shame but which drifters is this.?????

  8. P.... ....

Never heard a better version yet.

  9. C.... E....

    C.... E....

  10. A.... ....

    Neil Diamond.

  11. b.... ....

I am 52 years of age and I truly believe these guys were American doo wops. This is how good they were I couldn't even pick up any accent, please correct me if I am wrong, please put me out of my misery 40 years thinking they were Americans.

    b.... ....

    They were Americans

    b.... ....

Thank you Judy my mind is now at rest

  12. 4.... ....

Check out the Drifters singing the Cilla Black hit 'Something Tells Me'.

Best cover version of anything I have ever heard...

  13. K.... m....

    brill version ,god bless them

    K.... m....

    Brill version?

  14. S.... E....

genius! loved these guys back in the day.....

  15. M.... ....

I'm not saying he stood head and shoulders above others but if there is, or ever was, a better male voice in contemporary music than Johnny Moore's I haven't heard it.

    M.... ....

+MostEasterlySteve Rudy Lewis had the best overall voice in my opinion but many people like Ben E King.

    M.... ....

+MostEasterlySteve The amazing thing about Johnny Moore is the great way that time caught up with him. After his Fools Fall In Love era with the Drifters, Ben E took the new group back to the top, Rudy kept it there, then Johnny came back with a voice that perfectly suited the mid to late 60's. This song is a flawless example.

    M.... ....

    Spot on Steve

  16. s.... ....

Beautiful song by Neil Diamond , he inspirated and dedicated to daugther of  J:F: Kennedy .-  Great cover ,

  17. J.... H....

I actually can appreciate the song now!!

  18. a.... ....

  19. p.... p....

saw them at sheffield fiesta late 70s front row seats what a night!!!!!!!!!!

  20. J.... ....

    So better than Neil Diamond

    J.... ....

@Caroline Shepherd no come on ;) Neil Diamond , roy orbison , Elvis presley... all much better ... no criticism The Drifters have great songs, but not this one

  21. J.... ....

    sweetest song!

  22. E.... ....

well siad , johnny moore top class singer more more

  23. R.... B....

    The awesome Johnny Moore.

  24. R.... ....

I love everything about this version - the chugging rhythm, the mexican horns and on top of it all, Johnny Moore's beautiful voice...

  25. R.... ....

F****n awesome!! Johnny Moore was the best!!!!
I was crazy bout the Drifters when I was a kid - I'm rediscovering them 25 years later!!!! :D

  26. J.... J....

because, speaking the absolue truth, there are not many white singers that can sing from the soul

  27. B.... R....

Why do you have to bring color into this??

    B.... R....

Bob Resner exactly what a fool

  28. B.... R....

Sorry guys Neal blows this out of the water & I like the Drifters.Rock on

  29. H.... S....

Sorry , Drifters did a better version of Sweet Caroline . Neil Diamond is great but this version's a blinder...!!!!

  30. M.... ....

Great version! Have to say i've never liked this song by Neil Diamond, but this version is great! Thanks for uploading.

  31. R.... S....

This is a very good version but cannot touch the writers(neil Diamond) . Could never replace Neil Diamonds at a Boston Red Sox Game at Fenway the greatest major league in America even if it is the oldest. Has charm, character and built in pets(RATS). You won't find them any whers else except maybe Wrigley or Oakland.

  32. J.... J....

how many songs written by white songwriters sound way way better when sung by people of colour. More melody, feeling, love of soul and just better I s'ppose!
    joey jones,
soul boy since i was a nipper, and a 40 year old kid :)

  35. m.... d....

very nice --i love it--but Neil's is to me the definitive version......but I do LOVE this.

  36. c.... ....

    my name!!!!

  37. V.... B....

@exorcist1701 With me? That's not me! I just completed for you the title of the song: SWEET CAROLINE (GOOD TIMES NEVER SEEMED SO GOOD) That's the official complete title!

  38. M.... A....

and when you discover they were the best times ! you can't go back with time ! i totally agree with you!

  39. m.... d....

    I like it--But I like Neil's better

  40. V.... B....

(GOOD TIMES NEVER SEEMED SO GOOD)

  41. C.... S....

@iveco321 I'm sure of that ! All we have are the memories and recordings!

  42. i.... ....

@sarmuelwrx it's available on a drifters cd from the late 70's early 80's

  43. i.... ....

@craigs1001 - this was the drifters at their very best - johnny moore gave the drifters originality and a voice that'll be remembered for ever - he WAS american - we have the english drifters touring the uk and believe me if your thinking of going to see them , don't expect to see or hear this level of singing - you'll be disapointed

  44. e.... ....

Aqui ya no era ese gran grupo que fue,la version de Neil Diamond es buenisima.

  45. t.... w....

Great cover!! Johnny was in the Drifters since 1955! and sang with all the great past Drifters legends.R.I.P Johnny

  46. s.... ....

johnny was the best... just listen to that voice. i went to see him just before he passed away RIP johnny

  47. j.... C....

    @biggi0401
ELVIS SINGS THIS VERSION MUCH BETTER...MUCH BETTER

  48. C.... S....

Don't care who is in the band, they are from ENGLAND. The Drifters that many see in the states, one of a handful of Drifters band, has Bill Pinkney as the leader. Now that he has passed away, there will be 5 more groups probably.
Ask any USA Drifters to play "Little Red Book"...They don't know it! LEt me say that I have booked these bands for over 30 years so.........I know who is in what band and where they are from!

  49. s.... ....

How can you say that...Johnny Moore was American...not English. The Drifters have had many reincarnations since the 50's. however it was Johhny Moore on lead vocal who saw them through their most popular recording period in the early to mid 70's in the UK. RIP Johnny. x

  50. C.... S....

this is the English Drifters, not the group in the USA.

  51. M.... L....

Great version...you can shag (beach music dance) to this one!!

  52. f.... ....

the most melodious voice i ever heard.johnny moore, simply the best! rip.

  53. g.... ....

Hi, this is one of the best covers they ever did along with 'Something Tells Me' and 'You've Got Your Troubles'. If you have the other 2 tracks is it possible to post them on youtube?
    Cheers for posting this classic.
    David
