Drifters, The - Room Full Of Tears Lyrics

A room full of tears
A room full of tears

Raindrops keep a-falling
(Raindrops keeps a-falling)
Trickling down my window pane
(Trickling down my window pane)

As I sit here hoping
(As I sit here hoping)
And that you'll come back home again
(That you'll come back home again)

Since you've gone, I can't go on
I know my heart would surely break

Here am I lonely
(Lonely)
Left here with only
(Only)
A room full of tears
(A room full of tears)

Everyone keeps asking
(Everyone keeps asking)
If you're really gone away
(If you're really gone away)

My pride won't let me answer
(Pride won't let me answer)
And I really don't know what to say
(Really don't know what to say)

I made you mine, you said goodbye
Oh, where did I make my mistake?

Here am I lonely
(Lonely)
Left here with only
(Only)
A room full of tears
(A room full of tears)

All this strain and all this pain
Is just much more than I can take

Here am I lonely
(Lonely)
Left here with only
(Only)
A room full of tears
(A room full of tears)

A room full of tears
(A room full of tears)
A room full of tears
(A room full of tears)

Drifters, The Room Full Of Tears Comments

This guy sounds like Ben e king. That,s who I thought it was. Great group, they all sound alike. I like Rudy lewis and johnny Moore the best.

Peace and God's Blessings to all...I was a baby or not even born when most of these fabulous compositions came out. It was my father who gave me an appreciation for oldies, especially The Drifters. This song is truly a masterpiece...an all around timeless classic. The Drifters can never be duplicated, they were the first group that incorporated stringed instruments into their music. I'll be 54 years old in May of this year (2019) and I can truly say that these Drifters, even through all their transformations with different members never get old, and their music will never fade. Rest In peace to my loving father William Simmons aka William Baker: Dec 31st 1926 - Nov 18th 2009. You instilled in me an appreciation for oldies music that I've never forgotten...I still miss you so much...

I don't care who's singing, just love the drifter's songs, and what fantastic singers and song's, those of us were lucky enough to see them at their best were lucky

Rudy Lewis and Benny king were the best in my opinion. Rudy Lewis died of an over dose of heroin the night before he was to record Under the Boardwalk. They had to rearrange the song to fit Johnny Moore’s voice. Liner notes from box set Rockin and Driftin.

Had all their albums in 1964

Interesting to note your comments on Charlie Thomas, he felt overshadowed by Johnny Moore and went to Britain for a while with the line up only to return to the States to perform with his own set of Drifters. Johnny was to carry on flying the flag in Britain, for awhile the Treadwells tolerated the situation. Listen to the LP "Live At Harvard" and you can hear Charlie taking the mick of the way Johnny used to say "Thank Yo.....u" A lady in the audience shouts "Where is Johnny Moore" much, I would say, to Charlies Disgust.

Faye Treadwell 'tolerated' the Drifters going to Britain? It was she who took them there. And it wasn't Johnny's 'own set of Drifters', it was the current US (Treadwell) line-up that went over in 1972. With Johnny were Bill Fredericks (joined late 1966), Butch Leake (joined early/mid 1970 when Rick Sheppard left) and Grant Kitchings (joined May 1971, probably replacing Don Thomas). And I've never heard that Charlie went to the UK -- where'd you read that? I believe he was driving a cab until he formed his off-shoot Drifters c1971.

Yes an interesting photo, I am afraid an on going problem with most Drifter complimations. A little research could easily put this right, record companies don't care.

your right such talent great fantastic group songs that will never be bettered

Although Charlie Thomas sings lead on this song and is in the lower right of the photo, the song was recorded on Feb. 1, 1961 after Ben E. King had already left the Drifters. That photo is from circa 1958 and shows the original Five Crowns who took over as the Drifters. Rudy Lewis had already replaced King by 1961. Aside from Charlie, the only other person in the photo who was still a Drifter on this recording was Dock Green (left). The group recorded 4 great songs on that same day: two with Charlie on lead, and two with Rudy. Not too bad to have two great lead singers at the same time. And there a period in 1963, after Johnny Moore returned, that they had three great lead singers simultaneously. Such talent.

Very true. But to clarify -- "the original Five Crowns who took over as the Drifters" -- only four of the five Crowns became Drifters. James "Poppa" Clark (the light-skinned guy top-center) was left left out of the new group.

  15. G.... G....

I remember this song from 1964 and I tell you the Drifters were way ahead of the Temps, Tops, Whispers, O Jays and everyone that was extra good. The Drifters did not get what they were DUE. Love Them.

  16. C.... C....

The songwriting team of Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman wrote so many of the Drifters hits "I Count The Tears" , "This Magic Moment", "Sweets For My Sweet", "Lonely Winds" "If You Cry (True Love, True Love) "Nobody But Me" this song (A Room Full Of Tears) and the biggest Drifter hit of all time......."Save The Last Dance For Me"

    C.... C....

"This Magic Moment" and "Under the Boardwalk" are my favorites.

  17. b.... ....

I always loved the Drifters and I should remember this but I don't. Still, they always did their songs right. I likes!

  18. B.... P....

@Jevezy i agree. but even ben E king ,as Clyde Mc Phatters as an Idol.
He was perhaps , much at ease in fast tempos.
That was much a R and B time. Then went a rose in spanish Harlem

  19. J.... S....

    Good stuff!

  20. c.... ....

Thanks for the great-sounding post. I've only heard this on an internet station a couple of times. Nice to hear something less common by a wonderful group.

  21. V.... B....

They were changing lead singers as often as shirts!
