Drifters, The - Money Honey Lyrics
You know, the landlord rang my front door bell-
I let it ring for a long, long spell-
I looked through the window, I peeked through the blind,
And asked him to tell me what was on his mind.
He said, "Money, honey!
Money, honey,
If you wanna get along with me."
I was cleaned and skinned and so hard-pressed-
I called the woman that I love the best-
I finally reached my baby 'bout a half past three-
She said, "I'd like to know what you want with me."
I said, "Money, honey!
Money, honey!
Money, honey,
She screamed and said, "What's wrong with you?
From this day on, our romance is through."
I said, "Tell me, baby, face to face-
A-how could another man take my place?"
She said, "Money, honey!
Money, honey!
Money, honey,
If you wanna get along with me."
Well, I learned my lesson and now I know-
The sun may shine and the wind may blow-
Women may come, and the women may go,
But before I say I love 'em so,
I want - money, honey!
Money, honey!
Money, honey,
If you wanna get along with me.
(If you wanna get along) Well, make some money
(If you wanna get along) Well, I ain't jivin' you, honey
(If you wanna get along) You better give up some money
If you wanna get along with me

Drifters, The Money Honey Comments
Who’s listening in 2019😌
For anyone under the age of 60-80, FYI - THIS is "rhythm & Blues"!
The Drifters and CLYDE McPHATTER!
Pure gold 👑
All of my friends are groovy & they did not cost me a cent, although I can not say we did not do business together. One's credibility is more important than gold, so is love! Be careful or you will go to hell! It won't be fun.
Now play Be Bop a Lula by gene
According to the YouTube policy library, this has been blocked in 245 countries. How are you able to use it?
MongerMeSideways! How do you know that?
Elvis woke up the whole world to being a individual
It's Nice That A Man That Is Now President Of The United States Likes Old Rock And Roll And Rhythm And Blues.

Another Timeless Classic Hit single from the Drifters as it came out around 1953 as it had also Topped The R&B singles chart for them
I do Like Both Versions of this song as Elvis did this in 1956 as This Version Came out around 1953 as it was done by the Drifters as they had Taken it to the Top Of the R&B singles Chart in this year
Another Masterpiece for future generations to enjoy! Thank you, Drifters with a special thanks to Clyde Mc Phatter!
This Version came out around 1953 going into 1954 as it was done by The Drifters as the name of this is called Money Honey and Elvis Presley did also recorded it in 1956
Just a Timeless Classic single by the Drifters Called Money Honey and I would love to give Angela some Money and I do want her to call Me her very own Honey as she just tastes like sugar & Honey
Esta buena canción la cantaron THE DRIFTERS en el año 1953
Gostei da canción .
eddie cochran cover
Well I if you hear Elvis Presley singing this sings it's magic, Elvis make this songs his own songs, love elvis
the band .38 Special covered it on their album "Rockin' Into The Night"
A little song about the commodification of social relations.
rock on, COMPTON !!!
Amazing how this tune is almost exactly "Be Bop a LuLa" but no lawsuit ensued.
+Hinoka yes they were espically chuck berry alot of his song begginings sounded the same like johnny b goode, school days, no perticular place to go, and st louis blues
You meant be bop a Lula "1956" by gene vincent is similar to money honey released in "1953" by the drifters.
Begins like jailhouse rock
@Marco Hernandez Cazan get 'emmm! hahah
I like both versions of the drifters and Elvis
Donald J. Trump I do also, but I like this a little better. By the way; I voted for you. Keep up the great work!
This dude thinks this is the real donald trump.
Ronald is joking around, Duh. Nah, fuck of elvis. Elvis could sing, but there were so many better singers, and instamentalists. Elvis just got lucky, mostly because of his looks.
Atleast we can agree that this one is better then Lady Gaga song
i believe that this was the first rock & roll record i ever heard. i was 10.Clyde was the man
+john males Thats awesome. Love hearing from the people that there when this was big. one of the great songs of all time
McFadden, yes.
love Juan's story below...BUT my wife wants to know: what does "money honey" mean???? She said it at work because she has heard me exclaim it different times at home and her co-worker freaked out and exclaimed, "You know THAT!": we would appreciate any smart/IQ/acumen/brainwave out there telling us what it means??? hehehehe or MONEY HONEY$
Terrific recording of a great song. Love the tail at the end with the Drifters joining lead vocalist (Clyde McPhatter). The Ella May Morse version (more swing oriented) also retained the tail but Elvis let it go with his excellent Rockabilly cover. Wanda Jackson rocked it a few years later followed by others.
Version ? it's the Original .
What a great time and great music....
Love This ! !
!953, real early rock & roll. Elvis was driving a truck.
but this aint R'n'R...its R'n'b!
It's just evolution! Be greatful to live this!
Yup it's R&B
It inspired Gene Vincent's Be Bop-A Lula
You know, the landlord rang my front door bell.
I let it ring for a long, long spell.
I went to the window - and peeped through the blind,
And asked him to tell me what was on his mind - He said,
Money, honey - Yes, Money, honey.
Money, honey, if you want to stay here with me.
I was cleaned as a screen, and so hard-pressed.
I called the woman that I love the best.
I finally got my baby about a half past three,
She said I'd like to know what you want with me - I said,
Money, honey - Money, honey.
Money, honey - If you want to get along with me.
She screamed and said, what's wrong with you?

(If you want to get along)
Oh, I need some money
(If you want to get along)
Well I ain't jivin' you honey
(If you want to get along)
You gotta give up some money
If you want to get along wïth me"
Juan Carlos Duque Thanks for writing down the words!
Heh, ironically enough, all the pictures in this video showed the later lead singers of The Drifters: Johnny Moore, Ben E. King (which at this point, The Drifters consisted of an entirely different group formally called the Five Crowns), and Rudy Lewis; when the one singing this song was Clyde McPhatter.

Very nice!
Tantely.
You're a real loser!!!!! Get a life!!!!!!
not funny consigliore. you managed to be anti semitic and to denigrate one of the great clyde sides all in one stupid sentence.
In 1951 they (with Clyce McPhatter) were in the bathroom of a Texaco service station in Union, S.C. when I noticed 'The Drifters' written on the driver's door of their Oldsmobile and stopped. I was a 9th grader and unaware that they were inside the men's room washing up because motels did not accept them back then. I waited about 20 minutes, but they did not come out. When I told the secretary what happened for a late slip at the school office, she did not believer me but I got the slip.
Money...!!!
The pictures posted are not of the original drifters. Clyde McPhatter is nowhere around.
This song reminds me of The Dave Clark 5's song Over and Over.
someone got trigger happy with the pan button on mixdown
