Drifters, The - At The Club Lyrics

Well, Friday night
Has finally come around
And me and my baby gonna
Head for a spot we found
We're gonna forget our cares
And dance on into the night
Down at the club (down at the club)
Whoa, everything is out of sight
(Down at the club) down at the club
We're gonna say that it's all right
For two bits and a dollar
They've got a swinging show or you
Whoa, yes, they do
And the band won't quit
'Til everybody tell them to
And when they place that slow dance
You can hold your baby tight
Down at the club (down at the club)
Whoa, everything is out of sight
(Down at the club) down at the club
We're gonna say that it's all right
Hey, they've got lots of pretty
Dancing girls for the fellows
But, oh, you better watch out
In case your baby get jealous
Now some people might like to sit
And watch a picture show
But if that's what your plans are
Don't ask me to go
Cause I'll be where the good times
Last 'til the early morning light
Down at the club (down at the club)
Whoa, everything is out of sight
(Down at the club) down at the club
They're gonna say that it's all right
It's all right (it's all right)
It's all right (it's all right)
It's all right (it's all right)
Let me tell you, it's all right

That's sort of an odd pic to go with this tune... that's the 1953 Drifters -- Clyde McPhatter, Bill Pinkney, the Thrasher brothers and Willie Ferbee. But this song is Johnny Moore, Charlie Thomas, Gene Pearson and Johnny Terry, from 1964 or 65.

  15. M.... E....

  21. S.... W....

God this record is So New York it’s not even funny. I mean it perfectly captures the essence of Latin and Afro Cuban Music of the Big Apple at the time when a Huge chunk of the city’s population consisted of Cubans and Puerto Ricans a long with your usual Italians and Jews and Blacks as well

  22. S.... H....

    l.... t....

    @loopy twat ha ha

  36. w.... ....

Had never even heard of this song when I visited England in 1972 where it was very popular all over the place.

    w.... ....

+wilbar2922 In 1972 a re-release of it had just charted high in the UK charts. Its success was one of the factors that led the then-current Drifters (Johnny Moore, Bill Fredericks, Butch Leake and Grant Kitchings) to relocate to Britiain.

  37. j.... t....

i love this song so much

  38. r.... b....

One can hear future influence on pop music writing and arranging, like I hear "Hang on Sloopy" here and "Game of Love", but not enough cow bell.

    r.... b....

You can never have enough cowbell. :)

    r.... b....

    @E ranu You're dam tootin'.
Didn't know it was a cow bell but it's the best bit and only on the US single version, I think.

  39. b.... g....

2 bits and a $ wouldnt even get ya a big mac nowadays lol

    b.... g....

@brian goodwin Ha ha, it would get you a lot less in the UK matey

  40. b.... g....

    fantastic

  41. e.... ....

I remember when I was 15 and this came out back in Highbridge the Bronx It didn't go far on the charts except for the NY R&B station charts and I imagine as this was 1965 Billboard reinstated the R&B chart after it lapsed for 1964 I think the British Invasion did it as the reason it was dropped was because it was coming closer to the Pop chart I always liked this lesser known Drifters hit as sauquoit13456 put it RIP Johnny Vaya con Dios

    e.... ....

The Drifters changed styles and members but always made good music from the early 50s up to the late 60s Class Act all the way

    e.... ....

This is one of my all time favourite Drifters tunes, i play it nearly every morning before i go to work... just love it KTF !!

    e.... ....

I'm impressed while I love it too it is not one of their better known sides
