The vocal melodies over "moment in the sun" and "facing the unknown" are the exact same (key and everything!) as "when will he break out" and "solitary shell" from Solitary Shell on Six Degrees! :) the themes of both songs are even pretty similar, I love stuff like that

This song is the hymn for all us special needs teachers. Chapeau.

Most of the album sounds like this, which is why it's a major snoozefest! What happened Dream Theater? This album is soo uninspiring. I had high hopes.

Wow...Yes, the Cd IS Astonishing! I LOVE It. After the opening three songs and right after The gift of music is this Gem. I think I hit the rewind button 5 times before moving on. This is simply stunning. Simple yet complex. Brilliant. I've been a fan since 1989 when I first heard WDADU. The CD gets better with every listen. I have my tix for their show in Wallingford Ct. in April and I can't wait to see and hear them perform The Astonishing live! Well done guys!

It feels like a song Disney would write, but I can't really complain :)

These two minutes of this little track are one of the best moments on the record! So much is said here yet 2 minutes does not even seem short. This track does what it is meant to do. And its beautiful...

I've always thought it would be funny to hear James Labrie sing a Disney Princess song, like "Reflection" from Mulan or "For the First Time Forever."  Imagine him singing: "Look at me, I would never pass as a perfect bride, or a perfect daughter, can it be, I wasn't meant to play this part." Or "Don't know if I'm elated or gassy, but I'm somewhere in that zooonnne!"  Or "I wanna stuff some chocolate in my faaaacccee!"

And the exact reason I'm looping it over and over again!

A lot of DT's music uses recycled and slightly modified instrumentals, it's crazy how many similarities you can find in the songs spanning all albums. I mean, what do you expect from people who make as much music together, and separately from each other, as these guys do. Such talented musicians!

the first 30 minutes listening to the new album... are really disappointing... and I'm a die hard fan since SFAM. Acoustic and piano are constant. jazz riffs, crazy key changes, soft melody's. A far way from stuff like the enemy inside, dark eternal night. For some reason though, I can't stop looping this song and chosen. Haven't enjoyed a song this much since Home.

fast forward a few hours and I'm in love with this album. it's different.... it's a gamble... it's astonishing. Can't spend the rest of my life listening to metal riffs, and shame on you if you expected this album to be the cliche prog metal you've been listening to since pull me under. Dream theaters getting old but their ability to create brand new music leaves me speechless. The astonishing is as good as Rock music gets in 2016.

Now that you have digested the album (if you have made an effort to understand it) what is your opinions 4 months later? I ask because at first i felt the same as you. Now its probably my top 1 or 2 favorite albums in history. Just look a little time to get used to it :)

"Shame on you if you don't have the same opinion as mine" Lol. Sure. So everyone that dislikes the Astonishing is a fan of Metal riffs who's closed-minded? I've been listening to many genres of music for many years. Last year I went to see DT on their Images And Words tour just after a... Sum 41 concert. I can put you the most popish playlist ever and I ENJOY it.

However I didn't enjoy The Astonishing because of the way it is built and its boring linearity [IN MY OPINION]. Many think the same way. Just chill out. This is a great song, DT is great. Not everyone has to agree with you.
