Dream Theater - Status Seeker Lyrics
[music by Dream Theater]
[lyrics by Dominici and Petrucci]
Heart sick at the sight of the
Status Seeker
the aspiration to drop a name
When any rose might smell the same
Maybe you'll figure it out someday
"I want to know you now...
You know I've always believed in you."
Nothing is sacred...
You draw the bottom line
with a dollar sign
Change of opinion...
Graceless intrusion...
Are you sanctified in your
judgment of me?
All that I deserve is what you were
unable to see
In a garden where the seeds were
spilled
I favored the few that stood strong
in the sun
As I reached for the profit of my prize
I found I had trampled the forgotten
ones
Nothing is sacred...
You draw the bottom line
with a dollar sign
Change of opinion...
At the drop of a dime
Graceless intrusion...
Are you sanctified in your
judgment of me?
All that I deserve is what you were
unable to see
You're running in circles
And I'm turning away
You refused to believe
Now I'm turning away
Nothing is sacred...
You draw the bottom line
with a dollar sign
Change of opinion...
At the drop of a dime
Graceless intrusion...
Are you sanctified in your
judgment of me?
All that I deserve is what you were
unable to see
You're running in circles
And I'm turning away
You refused to believe
Now I'm turning away

in a sense im not beyond reproach. what a good line
Sooooooo Rush
2:55 One of the best parts on the cd...
the first 4 mins and 19 seconds are amazing!
This song is so under rated !!!
I could easily hear see this being on Rush's _Power Window._
Holy crap yes! Right between Marathon and Territories.
it sounds like rush mixed with journey
Salvatore ❤️❤️❤️
I didn't expect to like this. Never been a fan of Kevin Moore personally and Images and words/awake wasn't my cup of tea. Love Dominci too. This album is great.
How can you not like IaW? It's a seminal masterpiece.
@Scottish Vapes Bad/dated keyboard patches. But that comes nothing close to the severity of how goofy the vocals were starting to get, during IaW & Awake.
the keyboard synthesizers on the intro of this song oddly reminds me of styx
14 people gave deslike accidentally
I keep wondering what this would have sounded like if Moon Calhoun had done the vocals. Just for funsies. For reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN7cXsStbO4
when styx and rush have a retarded love child
The Rush Influence is so strong! You can pretty much hear Motion Pictures playing in their head.
Actually prefer Dominici to LaBrie.. I bought this album when it first came out!
WDADU will always be my favorite DT album! Nothing less than a Prog Metal CLASSIC!
good music but the album cover looks gay
Smashing Apple What were they thinking when they designed this?
temazoooo, dominici!!
love his voice
your comment made me think:
*Jasmine:* but father if i do marry, i want it to be for the lungs
Perfeito \m/
Dream Theater without Charlie Dominici, Mike Portnoy, & Kevin Moore = No Longer Dream Theater :D
This sing kind of reminds ne of Distant Early Warning from Grace Under Pressure
I love the DRUM !!!
If ever a song was crying out to be played over a Rocky-esque training montage, it's this. Love it.
With this song , the band's message seemed to be : if you're a Saga or a Rush fan, you will like us ! Come and listen to our music, we're all part of the same family !!
+Sci-Fi Savage Well, you just did that :-)
@David Ma Yes, read what i said in the begining of my second post and think for a second!
Don't stop to think for less than a second the entire universe gives AF what you think.
Dream Theater is. Rush is.
warner kurt I said the same thing long ago. I'm impressed you know who Saga is! They're all on my top 10 favourite bands.
@Stanley Tweedle - Security Guard Class 4
No one gives a shit what you think. Prog metal is "too complex" for your pea brain.
Dream Theater just did a line of the 80s. Love it
+jmiester25 Seeing how this song was recorded in the 80's...
Dat bass.
WDADU, best DT album!
Kevin and Dominici at their best here!
You must be joking haha, Dominici was only on this album, so there's no other albums to compare to lol
Tried listening to Octavarium, didn't like it at all. Very bland. But this... This has got some real passion.
Dreginy Let's Plays and bullocks.
The CD or the song? I hate to admit it's the most unfamiliar song on the cd, for me. The album is great. These Walls is somewhat undeniable. As is most of their shit. You just have to give it a chance. They will hit a chord eventually
Foo Fighters are damn terrible... don't YOU EVER compare Foo Fighters to Dream Theater... it's blasphemy!!!
But i have to say i miss portnoy a lot... mangini is good very good. but is miss my portnoy boy :D
LostSilentDream x Relax, you still got John Myung and John Petrucci
This song reminds me early 90's fighting movies.
no, this is better, sooooo much better... this is prog
I totally agree with you. Labrie´s voice is perfect to Dream Theater. Im not saying that Dominicci´s voice is awful, no, simply his voice is not to Dream Theater.
Labrie is AWESOMEEE!!!
Duffy Duck has a better voice than Labrie..
canta mais do que o labrie , sem duvida nenhuma !!!!
Jesus christ this is sweet.
The only I see as a influence from Rush is Ytse Jam because it reminds me so much of the instrumental track Yyz. Nothing is original with DT, they are good, but nothing spectacular.
the beginning sounds a little bit like an 80's rush song.
This just might be my favorite Dream Theater just because it has more overall emotional weight for me when compared to even Images and Words, Awake, Falling Into Infinity, etc.
Labrie is 1000 ways better
well! there are thousands of singers better than labrie
No shit, man Dream Theater is no where near Rush, I'm a Rush nut, my friend.
Kruegerisgod Rush is my favorite band. I own 19 of their albums.
Dream Theater is very good, but Rush is the greatest thing ever
Rush are proud.
This is very rushy... that means awesome
You don't have to be sorry.
i'm sorry there is no Rush in this song or anything remotely like Rush except for maybe the Geddy wannabe
This reminds me of Eloy so much. One of my favourite DT songs by the way.
I would love to hear James Labrie sing this...
Richard Green he has
That's because it's not James Labrie... It's their original singer - Charlie Dominici
this is so much like rush.brilliant.
(flame shield: active) I feel like DT can't write lyrics like this anymore...like Octavarium was the last album on the same lyrical depth that set them apart. I still love them, musically, but lyrically I feel as if it has gone sort of downhill.
Honestly, I feel that Kevin Moore brought alot of great songs and melodies to the table
True, like wait to sleep or space dye vest.
I prefer him than jordan rudess, it was a pity that Kevin left the band.
In my opinion Dominici kicks ass he brought the band alive there's more energy with him, with LaBrie everything kinda sounds the same & you get bored of it at least I do.
I still like "When Day And Dream Unite". Like many début album ( like "Trespass", "Kill' em All", "Script For A Jester's Tear" or "Boy" ) , it's a pure and naive desire to rock without thinking what anybody would say about it.
You can hear they were heavily influenced by Fates Warning
@ProgHead93 Too True!
@ProgHead93 Well man I think you should give another listen to BCASL it's got some amazing stuff on it. Each album has a different flavor to me. I am liking the sound of the new album as well.
@ProgHead93 Not at all man. Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence was right up there as well. Octavarium had it's own flavor,Traing Of Thought was the Images and Words of DT's heavier side,Systematic Chaos was a totally different album from the rest with a lot more chaotic and heavier stuff, and Black Clouds And Silver Linings was a culmination of all of DT's flavors. As far as the last classic album goes. "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence".
1 status seeker
what is this song about
@Hendrix1326 I am glad you like them in all era. Quiet honestly I'll still by the album and hear it,but I didn't quiet dig the first track off the new record and that's just my opinion :).
Cheers.
@immortalsoloist Regardless of our contention or views on this matter, neither of us really knows all facts pertinent to this issue, and I choose to accept Dream Theater in any era. As far as I'm concerned, they are in their golden era as long as they make fantastic, introspective, and adventurous music that speaks to me. High or low, they are among my favorite bands of all time, and I'm excited to hear the new album.
@Hendrix1326 Also the 12 step suite is one of the best works of DT thanks to MP. And many other tracks as well. Why is he being blamed for that,Petrucci wrote a lot of stuff during this era. I think MP was a positive effect, their entire fan following kept growing, the sales kept rising, the tours kept increasing it was all due to Portnoy's vision and leadership. I think the original chemistry is absolutely irreplaceable. We all differ in opinion but DT's classic era has gone man.
Cheers.
@Hendrix1326 I agree the job was given to Mangini but you should see that Portnoy gave a bunch of options to remain active in 2011 with Dream Theater but they were highly disrespectful of that and just want to come out with an album. He even suggested light work in 2011. Lot's of things are kept in the dark by the other members while MP has been open about it all. Negative impact,I don't think so man. If you are saying the 12 step suite was negative then man that's incorrect. It was therapeutic
@immortalsoloist I concede that my sequence of events may have been off. However, regardless of that, the fact remains that when Mike Portnoy contacted them, they had already chosen Mike Mangini as replacement drummer, and it wouldn't have been fair to him after already receiving the job. I love Mike Portnoy's drum style, and he contributed greatly to the chemistry of DT. However, based on his lyrics over the years, I think he had a negative impact on the mood and morale of the band as a whole.
@Hendrix1326 Get your facts straight Portnoy contacted the guys way before the tour ended. So I don't know what you are talking about. It's not too bad for Portnoy it's too bad for Dream Theater. Portnoy was the architect whether you like that or hate it,that's fact!!!
@killerchassis Absolute nonsense. Both are great drummers! And Portnoy was way more than a drummer and his parts flowed in any song. Portnoy had the right groove for Dream Theater.
Man, I haven't heard this in so long. DT doesn't even remotely sound like this anymore, in almost about any way I can think of. Maybe a little of of JM's bass and the 3 seconds of JP shred at 0:37. Definitely an 80's sound with the vocal harmonies. Kinda miss this era before the innocence had faded ;)
JonP1961 Ugh, innocence faded. 😑😑 I hate it when that happens.
actually i think i can tell u what 80s acts that bit came from , in terms of tone and timbre its sorta like the break in Jump by Van Halen (SORTA) , but the chord content i'll leave u to guess .
not from 0:31 to 0:40 seconds tho , but other parts of the intro , yes i would also say so (similar to umm , limelight and fly by night ) [[ maybe ]]
MANGINI kicks Portnoy to the CURB!
The intro of this song is so Rush from the 80!
@Hendrix1326 So he tried to come back but they didn't let him?! Not cool.
@shaolinkungfu666 I believe that his behavior and control-freak tendencies definitely had an impact in the band's decision not to accept him back after he quit. I thought it was kind of funny how he quit while on tour with Avenged Sevenfold, and when the tour was over, they decided they were done with him. Then, he tried to rejoin Dream Theater when it didn't work out, and they told him "TOO BAD, YOU ALREADY QUIT, PAL!"
I'm excited to hear the new direction Dream Theater is taking without him!!
@sexypadri it just isn't the same when james sings it though, ya know.
its kinda like bruce dickinson singing the songs written with paul di'anno for iron maiden. it just isn't right.... even though bruce is a kickass singer, and the songs written with paul di'anno are kickass, they dont mesh very well lol.
btw this song is #1 played on my ipod :D!! i LOVE it!
i WISH they woulda made one or two more albums before james came along :P (without skipping the albums made with james either :D)
this song is so underrated, DT should play it often
before this i had just listened to wither, these guys are now old, hence the name, so I came back to this. Charlie did a very good job here, absolutely brilliant. I still remember those days that i was introduced to dt(2001), and luckily, this was my first dt album. I was blown away
@TheUltimateFuzz LOL
One of my favorite Dream Theater songs to sing! I really think that the guys were undergoing a huge growth at this time, and there was a lot of tension in the band between the other guys and Mike, with his drug/alcohol problems at the time, as well as his desire to "lead" the band and the direction it went in.
However, these guys are among my all-time fave bands, and Mike Portnoy has been through a lot of growth and is learning just as we all will, how to live harmoniously with each other.
