Dr. John - Babylon Lyrics

Babylon
Is represented in the Bible by a stone
Babylon
Is thrown in a river and lost in a storm
Babylon
And never, never, ever again
Will anybody ever wanna call you they home

This is how you're gonna sink, now
I don’t care whatever you may think, now
I'm gonna bring my wrath down on you, now
So you'll feel the weight of truth, now

Gonna drop you like a rock of ages in the sea
And disappear like a pebble in eternity
Nobody wants to save what’s best left dead
A tidal wave is gonna dig your grave

Babylon

Never ever again will you ever hear
The sweet sound of no beautiful singer's voice
No angels playing guitars
Or plucking on they harps
No flutes, no trumpet players
Will be left back of Bouchon
Ain't gonna be no ditch diggers, no construction workers
No pimps, no hustlers, no jaw jerkers

No city lights, no pretty sights
Will ever shine on you again
No more actors, no Max Factors
Will smog your mind and leave you blind
No politicians, no higher religions
To guide you from the dark
No more Love-Ins, no more Human Be-Ins
Will light up Griffin Park

Babylon
On your hands is the blood of the prophets and all the holy ones
Babylon
Everyone you executed with your machine guns
Babylon
You're bringing about your own destruction, Babylon

I'm putting you down down down down
Where you can never rise up again
And watch your ashes light up the midnight skies once again
After reading the words of this old scroll to you
I hope you all cap back on the message
Lord, that I just told to you
About Babylon
Babylon

I think these guys were kickin it in the graveyard with the Easy Rider crew while this album was being made. So surreal and ethereal! Love it!

  4. A.... M....

Anyone know the language and translation of the chorus in "barefoot lady?"

    A.... M....

My guess would be Cajun, since he was from NOLA.

  5. H.... N....

I'm sorry, this album ist often overseen, but in my opinion one of the best. My favourite: Black widow spider: Hot as hell

  6. N.... R....

I like this way more than gris gris yet this album is not at all recognized.

  7. L.... G....

Message states something went wrong while listening to a song ! Message states to Tap to retry . Useless , American Airlines terrible services ,consistently .

  8. M.... H....

Love "Twilight Zone". Reminiscent of "Rainy Day" by Shuggie Otis which was latter.

  9. j.... d....

...all that "silence time" is great. sounds like CENSORSHIP

  10. B.... L....

    have no other choice,
    we may.
they and many others know the worthy father
    hope it's you too
    they read outloud the commandments,
    wish we we will too.

    love

  12. C.... W....

    this is good.

  13. R.... t....

    comment pourrir un plaisir
on met 10 mns de silence entre chaque chansons
tu doit etre chiant dans la vie..........

  14. G.... M....

Don't think the spaces between songs were this long on the original album.

  15. G.... M....

This was his strangest most free jazz. Oriented thing grew up I'm New Orleans and remember Michael the Wizard playing it on the local underground radio station god those were different times!

  16. p.... ....

why so much space between tracks ?

    p.... ....

prunepurple - Dr. John music was born in and shall remain in space.

    p.... ....

    to gather your thoughts

    glowin  8:25
    black widow spider  16:39
    barefoot lady  24:18
    twilight zone  29:06
    the patriotic flag waver  42:16
    the lonesome guitar strangler  49:50

    m.... ....

    thank you for this

  18. A.... A....

Except for the gaps between the songs, this is an excellent listen.

  19. J.... ....

It was Miles Davis who talked about the spaces between the notes. We have here the silence between the songs.

    J.... ....

These are not on the original album but had to do with the upload.....

  20. G.... ....

neva remain the same, duckin through the sugar cane... my man

  21. I.... M....

So ein tolles Album, doch die endlosen Pausen zwischen den Songs sind wirklich ätzend, sehr schade!!!

  22. Q.... ....

Why not reload this thing?  The gaps are EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING.  It's obvious you screwed something up.

  23. L.... T....

    Huge gaps between the songs.

  24. V.... B....

    Absolutely magical stuff!

  25. W.... D....

Amazing! A great artist ...total respect .....

  26. M.... C....

It sounds reaaaally good man! Thanks for uploading... it's a master piece!

  27. S.... ....

Thanks for uploading this, but what's with the HUGE gaps of silence between each tune? If they're to get round copyright software, wouldn't it have been easier to just shift the pitch of the record by a semitone or something and keep its flow? Still, thanks for uploading nonetheless - it's a pretty darn good album.

    S.... ....

fuck that, you'd rather him alter the audio and ruin the album than just wait a moments in between songs? that's ridiculous.
