Donovan - Isle Of Islay Lyrics
How high the gulls fly
O'er Ilay
How sad the farm lad
deep in play
Felt like a grain on your sand
How well the sheep's bell
music makes
Roving the cliff
when fancy takes
Felt like a tide left me here
How blessed the forest
with birdsong
How neat the cut peat
laid so long

Donovan Isle Of Islay Comments
You put "For Little Ones" on the stereo when you wanted a show a college girl you had a sensitive side to balance the loud psychedelic rock side. Thanks, Donovan, for your help in scoring.
A favourite song, oh for the days when musicians could write lyrics.
One of my favorites! He paints with words and music.

Pure Magic,Gentle and Sweet,Takes ME Far Away
This is the best Donovan"s period.
What a voice..
Great song from a great album. Donovan is most often remembered for his psychedelic rock hits, but a good bit of his deeper album material is more in the vain of old scottish and Irish folk songs. An underrated part of his wonderful talent.
a genius
My absolute favorite from my favorite ♡
this is music for me.
I sing this at the beach in solitude
Spoke to him at the Alfred Beck Centre in Hayes many years ago about this song, saying how useless some of the transcriptions and arrangements in music books are. ("Superman and Green Lantern" appears as "Superman of the lands" in one book! He laughed and agreed "They are rubbish aren't they?"
"Gift from a Flower to a Garden" has to be one of the greatest titles ever. I had the double, all tissue and that, when we were all delicate. The tissue is hard now and the soil is sour, the bees don't buzz like they did. Mars looks good now we've messed up what we had. A decent acoustic and some original fingerpicking....that'd be good.
It was just a boxed set by Donovan, decades ago. Not all that good really. Just a great title was all I meant.
Yes always and forever the magic of Donovan.
FUCK THIS. NAME OF GOD
And YOUR main problem is what??
Oops I think he meant that for a KISS track.
How shitty and hippy like this.
Donovan is wonderful. The world is so much richer because of his music.
Donovan was one of the greatest of that era. He could be poetic and gentle like this, but also tough and unsentimental as in "Season of the Witch" and "The Trip". Also, he had (and still does) a great voice and a wonderful fingerpicking guitar style. Thank you for the memories!
Wonderful song from one of the greastest albums ever! Donovan, i love you!!!!
Great song, great photos.
His live performance at the Anaheim Convention Centre L.A. in 1967 is the best - slower, and more chilled-out.
One of my favorite Donovan songs...
Great song, cool video. :)
I though Donovan songs were all fun and games until I discovered this...
Simply beautiful song.
Ethereal, haunting, and beautiful....what a totally underrated artist.
Agreed, I had to repeat this so many time. Hard to believe it has so few views...

Rosemary, your comment changed my day. Although I will never going to meet your husband, he will be in my prayers tonight. "Isle of Islay" was always very special to me, but now, after reading your comment, is totally close to my heart.
Thank u for compiling that - I love Donovan's songs but that one has special meaning as my husband loved listening to it during his last illness it gave him great peace - it is a wonderful song
