I remember as teenager being blown away by Donny Hathaway's incredible singing, tragically he chose to leave the world at the age of 34. This song is one of his finest, originally written by Al Kooper as a variation of "I Love You More Than Words Can Say" by Otis Redding (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr7feWQZuPY) another great artist of the 60's who died young (airplane crash). Kooper was one of the first white rock artists to draw from r&b and soul roots (including adding horns) and blew all of us hippies away, while he does a very credible job with the vocals he didn't come close to the pure emotion of Donny Hathaway. Damn this song. Donny Hathaway fills me with nostalgic feelings that no other song could. I grew up in the suburbs of Houston but there were two Summers when my dad decided to have me and my sister attend a summer program with his girlfriend's kids called S.H.A.P.E. The program was in the projects and pretty much all the other kids in the program had grew up in the area as well. But there was never any altercation between us because of how we grew up. The kids were incredibly well behaved and had more sense than most of the kids I know now. I got along with all of them and made so many memories at S.H.A.P.E. But the summer of 9th grade year was the last year I'd ever see any of them. And I didn't even get to say goodbye. Our dad just suddenly stopped taking us there and now I'll never have anything of sentimental value for the program but my memory. Enjoying the pool every Wednesday, Siva would always pretend we could waterbend. Still remember when one chick was crying in the pool and I carried her out. We made cleaning up trash at the park exciting. Siva and I would collect bottle caps with the plan of selling them off. I still had the bottle caps until my dad called me one day saying he threw them away because there was a strange liquid in the container. I remember learning how to step and performing with all my friends. I still cherish the memory by stepping at school and all the other kids watching in awe. I remember playing basketball at the court, I wasn't the best but I sure as hell gave it my all. I remember arts and crafts where I made a jean necklace amongst other things. Me and the guys would sit back and talk about who we thought was the cutest. I think the jean necklace is all I really have left of S.H.A.P.E. Raven was bipolar but we loved her. Kimmel had the best smile. Cassius would do the dumbest shit but we would all laugh. Siva was definitely the anime kid but he was my best friend and we got into loads of shit together.

I didn't mean for this to be that long but I guess it'll drown in the comments anyway. Thank You Donny for keeping some of my best memories alive.
