Dixie Chicks - Favorite Year Lyrics

One of my two favorite songs on the album - the other one is „Everybody Knows" and probably one of the most beautiful pedal steel soli I know.

Along with "Everybody Knows" this is my favorite song on the album.

Can anyone tell me if this is Lloyd Maines on the pedal steel solo? Wikipedia says that there is another lap steel player on the album. 'coz I'm blind I can't check it through live videos either.
Answers would be greatly appreciated. :)

In their Movie "Shut up and sing", when Lloyd visited them at the recording studio, this the song he played on. I have no doubt that it's him on steel.

This song reminds me of my high school sweetheart. My first love and how we felt together. We're both 40 now and have long since drifted apart but there are some memories time can't fade. Too much has happened since and we could never make it work now, but you know what they say. "Well always have Paris." If you're old like me, you'll get it.

It was such a tragedy that the right wing half of country music tried to ruin things for these talented female musicians! Everyone and the world of music lost big time! Children today need strong female voices like this to admire!

The Dixie Chicks are extraordinary and that their career was stunted by the right wingers in country music was a tragedy. I hope they come back together. This song is outstanding. .

i bet if the chicks were to anounce that they would re-form and come to the u.k they would be sold out ,ques around the block,this has gone on too long now,time to agree to let bygones be bygones and get back to music,everybody has a right to express what they feel,and yes this includes the chicks or anybody else in the public eye,this is what wars are fought over and people have given thier lives for, and thats the freedom of speech ,people should let the wounds heal and try to understand and respect the views of each other ,today and always

This song was co written by Cheryl Crow. Radio should have played their music. Country music, Nashville and country radio lost huge when they turned their backs on them, and I do believe they will come back stronger than ever.

This was one of my favorite songs off the CD and it should have been released as single.

This song IS wonderful indeed, these ladies possesses massive talent as well as style and beauty ...... Natalie Maines had every right to say, speak her mind ... weather it be about President Bush`s Iraq policy, or about anything else, the only thing she did wrong was not waiting `til they got back stateside, -on U.S. soil when verbally trashing/attacking the president ....her showing bad judgement and timing, of course didn`t by any means justify the way they were treated afterwards by almost everyone :/

I love this song, but it makes me cry...my breaks a little everytime I listen to it.

It is a sad song, something lost that's difficult to find again.

@SingJiya Natalie Maines has stood up for what she believed in the face of incredible adversity from those like you who ruined the Dixie Chicks forever. I am so glad she didn't listen to people like you and apologize. There is such a thing as trying to make a change in the world, instead of living for money. And by the way, they are all still really well off. None of them are flipping burgers, they are making music and doing well!

The way the vocal harmonies in the bridge build up, followed by that very moving steel-guitar solo, is truly wonderful and for me the highlight of this song.

It´s a very sad song...
when Natalie says "when I was at my best", and then the guitar plays... sometimes I cry listening to this part...
