Just got back from a concert last night from the divine comedy, it was great and to make it even better, halfway through they started to wear party hats and I got to have one of them afterwards.

I love you Neil.

This music video gives me a lot of Collins-Era Genesis, Jarvis Cocker, and Talking Heads vibes, and I love it for that.

When I hear this song of Mark Knopfler , "One more matinee", I always think that it would sound marvelous performed by Neil Hannon.

This funny sound like a cat is genial. ☺ And the beat sounds similar to 'It Ain't What You do' by "Fun Boy Three". )) But I like Neil's references to other groups and singers and a mixture of different music styles.

Probably the worst song he has ever done. Shat out in a couple of minutes. Absolutely awful. His albums are getting steadily worse and i don't have much hope for the next one.

The greatest songwriter of the last 25 years releases the worst song of his career. By some margin.

It sounds like something from a toddler's TV programme. The sort of song they play when teaching kids how to cross the road or how to be nice to their fellow toddlers.

How can Neil Hannon think this has any artistic merit whatsoever? Why does he repeatedly release such dreadful lead singles? Is he trying to repeat the 'National Express' chart trick?

It's extraordinary that this is the same person who wrote and recorded the sublime 'To the Rescue'.

The general public think this -and 'National Express', ' Indie Disco' etc is what Hannon's music sounds like. He needs a Lennon to tell him "No! You're not releasing 'Teddy Boy' as a single! It's utter sh*t!"

I totally agree to that! I LOVE Neil Hannon and The Divine Comedy, but this new Song ist boring :(

I feel the same way as I enjoy Hannon's more thoughtful work far more than the silly songs. The first I heard of him was actually National Express (but in my defence I was only 14 at the time...!) but it prompted me to find out more, and I soon came to love the albums.
I've found less that meets my tastes on each consecutive album, I think, in particular Foreverland and Bang Goes the Knighthood. With those two I've only found 1 or 2 tracks that I love, 2 or 3 I don't mind, and the rest I skip over - these include all the singles (and yes, I'm old fashioned and still by CDs - not modern enough for digital music or cool enough to revert to vinyl!!).
That said, I'm excited that a new album is on the way, and will buy it in the hopes of eating my words...!!!

Or...he needs to do what the hell he likes, creatively, and ignore people criticising things of his they personally don't like, just because they've forgotten (or fallaciously reject) the essential verity of 𝘥𝘦 𝘨𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘮 𝘦𝘴𝘵. I think it's great: very amusing, a cleverly-structured, jaunty little tune nicely juxtaposing the acidity of the lyrics. Am I wrong? You may say so, but I'd ask what, precisely, is your warrant for doing so...?

Brilliant! But, I wonder how PM May likes it? -chuckling- When I first heard it, I was reminded of Adrian Belew’s “Young Lions”. Same sort of AfroCentric percussion and chanting. Only this is much more poppy. And perfect timing, what with Brexit on hold. Again.
