Dionne Warwick - Odds And Ends Lyrics

Your pillow wasn't slept upon
Your closet was empty, too
All of your shirts and ties were gone
There wasn't a trace of you
How could you go and leave so completely?
Nothing was left
Of all the memories that we used to share
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

At least you could have said goodbye
You shouldn't have to run away
Were you afraid that I would cry?
My tears might have made you stay
Gone are the dreams that kept us together
Nothing was left
To show that we were once so happy then
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

How could you go and leave so completely?
Nothing was left
Of all the memories that we used to share
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

Odds & Ends / Dionne Warwick - Burt Bacharach

    Your pillow wasn't slept upon
    Your closet was empty, too
All of your shirts and ties were gone
There wasn't a trace of you
How could you go and leave so completely?
Nothing was left of all the memories that we used to share
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

At least you could have said goodbye
You shouldn't have to run away
Were you afraid that I would cry?
My tears might have made you stay
Gone are the dreams that kept us together
Nothing was left to show that we were once so happy then
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

How could you go and leave so completely?
Nothing was left of all the memories that we used to share
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

  12. r.... ....

    One of their best.

  13. C.... ....

Linda Ronstadt has done numerous remakes of songs by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. One time I saw a concert on television in which Smokey Robinson and Linda Ronstadt did duets of each song that they have both performed and released through the years. They sounded awesome together. I'm waiting for the day that Dionne Warwick and Johnny Mathis do a duet of this song "Odds and Ends." They both released their own respective versions of this same song back in the day. They'd sound fabulous teaming up to perform this song on television or at a concert.

  14. C.... ....

One of the hardest songs to sing. And Dionne does it effortlessly

    C.... ....

An Alternate version - previously unreleased take will be uploaded to the collection of this channel in the next few day's .. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Canzone bellissima fantastica. ... solo un duo come Bart Bacharack e Dionne Warwick sanno fare !!!

  16. s.... ....

I recall when it was on the charts and the brief time it got radio play.   Pretty song, but unlike other Bacharach songs, this wasn't a big hit.

  17. K.... L....

Great song but I really like the Johnny Mathis version better! So smooth!

    K.... L....

I wish that Dionne Warwick and Johnny Mathis would do a duet of this song. They'd sound exceptional together.

  18. D.... S....

Wow!!!Thank you for sharing your great experiences with Dionne Warwick and Burt B! and Hal D! !!!!

  19. L.... ....

I forced myself to learn to play this on the piano so I could sing it! I was 8 years old.

  20. S.... M....

Love this song!! Love Dionne!! There's a beautiful instrumental version of this song done by "Ronnie Aldrich & his two pianos".

  21. b.... j....

A simple tune with simple words which usually never work but here it clearly does.Magic!!!

In 1986, while working for ABC Television in Hollywood, I volunteered to run an especial errand; I went to Burt Bacharach's house, located on Nimes Rd. (next to Elizabeth Taylor's house) in Bell Air, to pick up some tapes. He asked me to wait and serve me a glass of fruit juice; that's the sweetest wait that I have ever had in my life. The tapes were delivered to a house on Maple St. in Beverly Hills to Dionne Warwick. A simple and memorable pleasure. Bernardo. Salute.

turandot ignoto I'm so jealous of you. I got to do something similar with Producer/Engineer Bruce Swedian and Songwriter Rene Moore when the produced David Hasselhoff for a European release. David and I sat by the pool, chatted for a while, and even contemplated me singing on tour with him.
    Quite a pleasure gig.

@hollidayevery Since I was very young, I noticed something very valuable and true. We human beings are basically the same; what make us different is our special talents, fame and money or the lack of them. We are all equal; but some are more equal than others... I've been close to some great human beings and influenced by them. Being a winner by association is not too bad. Salute.

  23. t.... i....

This marvelous song is not even included in the best of Burt Bacharach; believe it or not! Salute.

  24. b.... ....

Che meraviglia di melodia ... è paragonabile ad una carezza data ad un bambino di qualche mese di età che ti sorride mentre tu giochi con lui. E SOLO Burt Bacharach sa creare spettacoli di questo tipo!

  25. G.... P....

What a song, great vocal, unbelievable lyrics, fine arrangement! Never understood why it didn't become a big hit record! Yes, it's the story of my divorce, , maybe yours as well.

    G.... P....

Gay Pearson cause at the same time she came out who gets the guy and it stole the show

  26. M.... C....

there is a kind of blue note in this Bacharach/David/Dionne record. a song that says a lot about a separation and the end of a love affair. the timing of the instruments and of Dionne is incredible...

    M.... C....

Miguel Cruz I'm so glad you mentioned the great Hal David in the mix. Hal co-wrote AND co-produced ALL of those Bacharach/DAVID songs.
When the two of them split, it ended the marriage of the three (Bacharach/DAVID/Warwick).
Hal was a very necessary partner. Burt could write this magnificently by himself!
    Masterful!

  27. M.... C....

odds and ends is one of this song we can't forget. pure Bacharach/David. perfect timing in the record...

    M.... C....

    great as usual,!

I remember this from 1969....I was just in 8th grade....growing up listening to WLNA Peekskill, new York........loved it even as a kid!

  30. c.... ....

I really believe God gave the world Burt Bacharach and Hal David just like He gave us Dionne Warrick and Einstein!

  31. J.... L....

    Johnny Mathis recorded it too!

    J.... L....

    And it's beautiful. <3

  32. M.... R....

Excellent Bacharach/David composition brilliantly rendered by songstress Dionne. Shamefully ignored for the most part.

    M.... R....

"Don't go breaking my heart" is another one. Not the Elton John song, this is an entirely different one by Bacharach/David sung by Dionne, it's on Youtube, it's fantastic and ignored even more than this one and personally I think it's even better than Odds and ends.

    M.... R....

    @Ka Boom

Completely agree with you. "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" is one of their best.

    M.... R....

@Matt Reese A rare gem of a tune. LOVE it and very happy you posted it!

    M.... R....

    @direfranchement
Odds And Ends is a great song by Dionne. Uniquely Dionne Warwick, there's one like her!

    M.... R....

Meant to say: There's no one like Dionne Warwick! Truely one of a kind!

  33. i.... ....

great lyrics by HAl David...Bravo, Hal RIP

  34. s.... m....

I just heard of this one and keeps on hearing it again & again... I thought I had all of Dionne's collection .Love it.

  35. c.... m....

Great song! I also like the Johnny Mathis version.

  36. L.... B....

Forgot how much I loved this song. Dionne & Burt Bacharach were a match made in heaven......

  37. R.... G....

I've been trying to find this song for years. The melody is mostly large skips which makes its sound unique. So glad I found it!

  38. S.... M....

Another forgotten Bacharach-David song. Should've gotten more air play. Such a darn good song!! Thanks for posting.

  39. d.... ....

    @mackfielder Yes it is...such a favorite

  40. p.... ....

It's a lovely tune that evokes good memories of days long ago, the late 1960s-early 1970s. This song, however, was not as big a hit as other Bacharach-David tunes.

  41. J.... ....

That Burt Bacharach has all these tunes, chords, and melodies in his mind and soul is truly amazing. That one man, along with Hal David, produced so very many truly exceptional songs astounds me. What a treasure.

  42. m.... ....

    Such a beautiful melody!

  43. t.... ....

I love this song thank you for posting this lost oldie goldie!!
