The assassinations of the 1960s was the fork in the road for the U.S.A. If those great leaders would have lived, we would be living in a world that would be unbelievably wonderful. But they were killed & we live in a diminished world led by little men.

If you were coming of age, maybe voting age in 1962 or '63, you were coming to realize that great men don't grow on trees and we learn to embrace their words and hopes for the future, especially when they're taken from us way too soon. They were all tragedies of my life; I was thrilled to see both JFK and RFK in person and Martin's "I Have a Dream" speech televised live on a Saturday afternoon.

We lived the best of times and the worst of times. I was in High School when the President was shot. It was like loosing someone in your family. We were in total shock and disbeleif. I always felt the country never recovered its hope and aspiration for a better world. Segregation was being done away with the nation was materialy prosperus. Their is always someone evil who destorys happiness for the majority.

What a beautiful song, but sad. Being a conservative, I am sad the how the country is today, but I am still so thankful to live in America, I won't speak bad about the United States.

Things only got worse from there with MLK and Bobby. I remember dreaming that Bobby got shot the night he was in 1968 to wake up in the morning to be told by my mother that he was. Liberty and Freedom was stolen from us then and the media stuck their heads in the sand and just let it happen. Shameful. No wonder we are where we are today.
