Diana Ross - The Same Love That Made Me Laugh Lyrics

Your love is like a chunk of gold
Hard to get and it's hard to hold
Just like a rose that's soft to touch
Love has thorns and it hurts so much

Well then why must the same love
That made me laugh make me cry

Well now think of love as sitting on a mountain
Think of it of being a great big rock
Well I did it before you start to roll me down
Because once you've started you can't make it stop

I'll give it all I have to give
And if you don't want me
I don't want to live

Well then why must the same love
That made me laugh make me cry

Why you wanna make me cry?
Why you wanna make me cry?
Why you wanna make me cry?
Why you wanna make me cry?
Why you wanna make me cry?
Why you wanna make me cry?
Why do you wanna make me cry?

  8. e.... a....

    THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE

  9. W.... o....

I like her high notes, but I wish they had a lot more power in them. I like the Aretha, Janis type, blow you off you chair thing. It's hard to do without making a painful mistake.

Also, I DEEPLY MISSED the GREAT, simple, yet very staccato, measured drum fill by a real drummer on a kit in Bill Withers's song. The fill is so great, but so extremely controlled. Me, and I'm sure all other drummers want to lay on it to the floor, and make it complicated. But the fill is (snare:) "1 e and uh, 2 e and uh," (small tom) 3 e and uh, (snare:) 4 e and uh." No hard hitting, no showing off and overplaying. All the hits are even. It's very smooth, and I deeply feel it's loss here.

Any one who loves this song should check out Will Oldham's (aka; Bonny Prince Billy) acoustic cover,it's on U-tube and it's out of this world.

  18. M.... E....

I agree. Along with the "The Boss" "Baby It's Me" are my 2 favorites by the Diva Miss Ross, and I've got about 95% of everything she ever sang even back from the Supremes from 1960 forward.

  19. M.... ....

She did it alright, but Bill's is still the best.

  20. E.... D....

should've been a single. "Baby It's Me" is one of Diana's best albums that just never got promoted correctly and this song is flawless!

  21. s.... ....

Diana Ross will always be my first love but it was Whitney Houston that broke my heart!!

  22. h.... ....

    One of my all-time favorites!!!!

  23. G.... B....

No one can sing a ballad like Diana Ross, and her voice is like silk and flower petals, my favorite singer, I could listen to her sing till the cows come home

  24. M.... ....

    Love........

  25. J.... ....

    Gorgeous vocals and woman.

  26. J.... D....

    Fabulous vocals.

  27. f.... ....

    THE true D I V A !!

  28. m.... ....

A classic song from a long out of print vinyl album, "Baby It's Me." Hip-o Select is slowly re-issuing Diana's 1970's Motown recordings in "expanded" editions and hopefully this gem will get a full remastered makeover during 2012.

  29. w.... ....

@tofelt short answer...NO. But then who could sing it like this. It is classic 70's pop.

  30. t.... ....

the undeniable TRUTH about DIANA ROSS: THE SINGER. with that VOICE that has been call 'SMALL.' she manages SUPREMELY to sing MORE different styles of music than any other singer that i can think of. could sinatra sing this song convincingly?

  31. r.... ....

    @sghaughton1953 -- Amazon.com has 10 of them on vinyl !

  32. S.... H....

I've been looking for this album for a long, long, long time. Still can't find it.

  33. w.... ....

There's something hauntingly beautiful about Diana's vocal delivery here. Her phrasing is amazing.....and her voice is so velvety! This is one of my favourite tracks from "Baby It's Me". This is one of Diana's best Motown albums - IMHO!

  34. r.... m....

SHE IS THE THE BEST ! ! !

  35. D.... D....

@mikel3363 ....I'm with you on that! every track's a winner...still sounds fresh today!
and I happen to think she can still make one as good now...wow, wouldn't that be nice =)

  36. h.... ....

I love going back and rediscovering some awesome gem from Diana Ross like this song of her Baby It's Me CD.

  37. h.... ....

weak waek... bill withers is better!

  38. E.... W....

This is my favorite Ross album. Second is "The Boss".

  39. m.... ....

BABY IT'S ME (1977) is vocally the best all-around Diana Ross album

  40. c.... ....

This is the best solo album of Diana Ross' career, in my opinion. It was produced by Richard Perry. I have great memories associated with this album. I wish that she would get another great producer like Richard Perry( or him again) and do some great stuff. I really do miss her. And she should not pick her own stuff--let someone else do it , maybe. There are a couple of pretty good selections on her Blue cd. But basically it was sorta ho-hum. AND I LOVE DIANA ROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. V.... ....

I agree about her picking the wrong songs. Diana was fabulous on many albums while being at Motown from her early years to the 70s, this album being one of them. I have this album and love it. Diana wanted to be in control of her own career after leaving Motown and well, we can see she didn't know much about picking songs which stopped me from buying her later materials. I hated a lot of that stuff. But long live her other material.

  42. R.... ....

buddymatic... wow are you EVER RIGHT!!! She is one hell of a GOD...ESS! She is timeless... hate her or love her, well she is still here five decades after yes AFTER she first tried the ropes... and this gal' was not goin' home without a win... you think? They say STARS know they are or were meant to be who they are, and even if Diane didn't know it, well time has shown she is IT!!!

  43. c.... s....

Bill Withers must be impressed with this one.. ;) She did a great job singing it..

  44. J.... ....

Love this cut. The Lp was great!! She looked great on the cover too.Another great cut is "Too Shy To Say" written by Stevie Wonder.Nice montage!!
