Diana Ross - Keep An Eye Lyrics
Keep an eye
Keep an eye
Keep an eye
On your close friend
Keep an eye
Keep an eye
On your close friend
'Cause what you got that'll make you lose
And then turn around and step in your shoes
I say they'll turn around
And step in your shoes
I stood there numb
With my love on her arm
Oh, what she said was
"Sorry for what I had to do
But you see I love him just as much as you"
Keep an eye
Keep an eye
On your close friend
Keep an eye
Keep an eye
You better watch out
For your close friend
The devil's workshop is a busy place
On top of evil there's an innocent face
Oh, on top of evil he puts an innocent face
She was just like a spider
Only twice as smart
Kindness was a thread
She used to weave my world apart
There were three of us seen all over town
Now there's only two
Someone's missing guess who
Now I see how she schemed and
Worked her way in between
Planted seeds of mistrust
To make us fight unaware
Her comforting ways when I would cry
Shadowed the look of triumph in her eye
Just like a snake on the limb tree
A friend is an enemy you can see
'Cause what you got that'll make you lose
And then turn around and step in your shoes
I said they'll turn around
And step in your shoes
So you better keep an eye on your close friend
You better watch out for your close friend
Don't trust nobody
Don't trust nobody
Keep an eye on your close friend
Keep an eye
Don't trust nobody
Keep an eye on your close friend
You better watch out for your close friend
She was just like a spider
Only twice as smart

Diana Ross Keep An Eye Comments
Love this version...her vocal is fire
It would be so stunning interesting to be privy to Ms’ Ross thoughts when she first recorded this song. Not to mention the line “ the devils workshop is a busy place; on top of evil there’s an innocent face.” In view of the treatment dealt her bandmate, the late Florence Ballad, this line is particularly oblivious brazen! Truly fame can come at a crushing price and our consciences will always bear witness regardless of our outer appearance. People who need people are the luckiest people in the world? Paul W. Green
Diana is not responsible for Flo's exit from the group, lack of solo career, or her death....damn leave Diana alone...why don't you blame Mary or better yet have enough respect for Florence to not turn her into the ultimate "victim"...at least give her that.
+Mic i think it’s real childish to blame it all on Diana. Like something a 10 year old would do. Acting like their issues didnt revolve around the grown men that ran the entire group. Diana & the other supremes were just little girls at the time
I prefer this version. It has a better flow to Dianas vocals x
MS. ROSS......THE EPITOME OF SONGSTRESS, CLASSIEST ENTERTAINER "EVER" IN the BUSINESS!!!!!
First Album solo.
Diana Ross "young !"
I wish Ashford & Simpson re-imagined this track for her solo album. It's way too similar to the 1968 Supremes version. It's almost like they used the same band charts.
Great version, love Gladys Knights version as well !!!!
One of my favorite Diana Ross songs... It's sad that it's so under-appreciated.
Wow they used the vocals from Mary and Cindy on this, they're just muffled a bit. Keep an Eye was one of the very few songs to have Mary and Cindy on it, it seems they used their vocals on it here.
+xxxstripperella6969 Sorry but no Supremes were used in the making of this track. It was Ashford and Simpson doing back-ups on BOTH versions
your wrong ! Berry Gordy didn't want the Supremes nowhere on Miss Ross 1St debut solo album !
@B Hood B Good Correct! No "Supremes" were anywhere near this song: the original version by Diana And The Supremes didn't even have any Supremes on it...the second version (this version) was Diana's solo. I reckon it was never meant to be a Supremes song in the first place (just like "Someday We'll Be Together" etc). Anyone who knows what Ashford and Simpson sound like would know in an instant that they are the backing singers!
Mary and Cindy didn’t even sing backgrounds for the Love Child album. They had studio session singers. Love Child was a tester for a Diana Ross solo album
This was the B side of 'Doobe, doondne'doobee' here in the UK. A classic track.
it's a great song and i like both versions (but i actually like the slower version on the LOVE CHILD album)
This is my favorite song on this album. I like her "solo" version better than the one on the "Love Child" album.
