Diana Ross - How About You Lyrics

If you really think I'm fine
Then why don't you just take the time
And call me
Baby, hurry, come see me

Friends all say you speak my name
Well, let me say
I feel the same about you
Can't do without you
How about you?

Hey! Baby, what's wrong?
You look so surprised
I can tell by the look in your eyes
That you need me
And I need you too

Hey, baby what's wrong
You know you need me
And I need you too
How about you?

I know all the words
That I wanna say
But if I do will you walk away
And leave me here
By myself with my tears

Baby I still have my pride
Eventhough it's not enough to hide
My love for you
Baby, I love you
How about you?

Baby, how about you
Do you need me too
Baby, how about you
Do you need me too
Baby, how about you

Diana Ross How About You Comments

    I love this Album.

In addition to the song selection one of the best features of the "Everything is Everything" album is the jacket cover. DIANA ROSS posed in such an exotic way in her body stocking outfit. Thanks!

Sadly and surprisingly from a very bad album. This version (with overdone arrangements) of this song doesn't (by far) equals Chris Clark, who Motown failed to have as an American Dusty Springfield. She was a great singer. But Ross is Ross, unique.

All of the information that everyone has are all true, her affair with Berry Gordy and been push to the front, but, let's face it, Diana Ross had the voice that fitted the songs and the time and she sounded good too.  As time progressed, her looks begin to improve as well and she looked more sophisticated than the others.  Mary though was a beautiful girl too and thin and sang, so she could have done something, but as praised as Florence was, I was not impressed with her and would not have bought their records if she would have been the lead.  Now that is my own personal opinion, we all have different tastes.  Diana really developed very well and the proof is that she became a superstar and had many records and # 1 records at that, with The Supremes and as a Solo artist.  Love her.

+rfuentes1956 So well put. rfuentes . Diana was always my choice. The other girls while pretty but just did not have the spark/or fireworks that Diana had.

Actually, the relationship between Ms. Ross and Mr. Gordy was not a lengthy one and did not occur until late in her years as a Supreme. The relationship began in late 1969 or early 1970. By that time, she had been lead singer for the Supremes for five or six years, and except for "Someday, We'll Be Together," all of the group's number one hits had been released. Rhonda Ross, the child of Ms. Ross and Mr. Gordy, was born in the summer of 1971, and the relationship had been over for some time before her birth. So, the claim that Mr. Gordy moved Ms. Ross into the lead because of their relationship is a myth that may make the story more dramati (so it gets repeated), but, it is simply untrue. Mr. Gordy makes no secret of the fact that he wanted someone from Motown to become an international superstar, and he wanted to be involved in taking the person beyond a career as a recording artist and into other aspects of the entertainment industry. Ms. Ross acknowledges that she wanted to be that star, and her work as a Supreme convinced Mr. Gordy that she had the talent, the star quality, the ambition, and the work ethic to achieve his goal. Along the way, he fell in love with her. But, Mr. Gordy, who became one of the first Black entrepreneurs and one of the earliest Black multimillionaires in the country -- coming from the most modest of circumstancces and nneding a loan from his parents to do it -- was not someone who made decisions based on sentiment alone. If so, he could not have created the company that for many years had the greatest roster of music stars, was by far the most successful record company in America, and then branched out into film making, TV production, artist management, and other areas of the industry.

It took enormously hard work, with little time off and without letting temperament and outside distractions get in the way, for Ms. Ross to become the most succssful solo entertainer in the country, to break down barriers that existed that prevented Black artists before her from playing the top venues in the world for the same salaries sa White artists, to make films, to star in a number of TV spectaculars, to tour around the world to become a headliner in every country, etc.. But, it was the way she had approached the business from the start. As a Supreme, Ms. Ross had worked tirelessly to make the group more and more successful, doing the nterviews that Florence Ballard so disliked and Mary Wilson treated with ambivalence. Doing photo shoots when they passed, putting in extra rehearsal time to make the shows more successful. You are completely correct that Ms. Ross also had the voice and the phrasing that matched the songs and sold the records, but she had the drive to take the group ever higher , and I do not believe she gets enough credit for the work she did that benefited the others as much as her. The Supremes/Diana Ross and the Supremes are the most successful American singing group of all-time, and that is an accomplishment for which all the members deserve to share the credit. Their sound was and is timeless and unique, and that took them to the top of the charts. But, Diana Ross' drive, work, talent, sound, style, etc., along with her determination, ensured that they stayed there for the shared years, and those who dispute that or ignore it are being less than fair.

EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING and RED HOT are the WORST albums ever produced at Motown even though I am great fan of Diana Ross and Mary Wilson.

  6. B.... ....

The thing that was unique about Diana was her great phrasing, pitch, tone and the way she had a light but strong voice. No one could imitate her. She was a great gift to music.

    B.... ....

This is a beautiful song. Many of Ms. Ross' detractors criticized her voice as not as strong as some of the other female vocalists and thus not as good. But, in most cases, they were mistaking volume or vocal tricks for quality, and I disagree with both their criteria and their conclusions. Ms. Ross is not a singer who can be heard two stadiums away holding a note for two full minutes whether it should have been held that long or not. She has always been a song stylist. She looks at songs and evaluates its appropriateness for her and her voice, its meaning or message, and considers what she could bring to it. She is a song writer's best friend because though she adds her unique style to their song, she does not obliterate it with gimmicks or volume. She is as good as anyone who ever sand a song at conveying the message of the song to the audience. She is the best, or certainly among the very best, at phrasing and delivery. Frank Sinatra was always said to have impeccable phrasing instincts, but, I think hers are just as good and perhaps better. She also has unique and beautiful enunciation, and she even has used her enunciation choices to enhance a recording and lift it from excellent to great. Listen to "You Can't Hurry Love" and she is great from first word to last. But, listen to the pronunciation of the word "anticipation" and listen to the stanza hat begins with the line "No, I can't bear to live my life alone ..." Her unique enunciation gives those five lines a shimmering, yet plaintive sense of yearning that turns good into great. Those moments and those choices can heard throughout her recordings.

The other amazing thing is that Ms. Ross is having a moment in which she is fulfilling the old adage that "he (or she) who laughs last, laughs best." I am sure that she has read and heard all the comments about the fact that her voices was less impressive than those of other singers. But, over and over, reviewers of her current touring shows from city to city comment on the fact that unlike other vocalists, especially ones from her era, she still sounds in concerts like Diana Ross on recordings. She is not lip syncing , either. She still changes up parts of songs from show to show, brings people onto the stage, goes into the audiences, etc,. -- things that those who are lip syncing cannot do.. The other singers who had "stronger voices" either have greatly reduced voices or no voices to speak of at all. But, her crystal clear soprano is as beautiful today as in 1964 when "Where Did Our Love Go" became the first of many number one songs for the Supremes, and later for her on her own. The Guinness book of records named her the most successful female vocalist of all time, and that took talent, hard work, luck, and the ephemeral qualities that only those who become the biggest stars have ... and, as {resident Obama said of her recently as he presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom "and somehow, along the way,, she found the time to raise five wonderful children."

    Love this mellow song!

@AzzedineAliaFan mary and florence went to grooming and deportment classes just as diana did. diana was far more ready to rule the world. florence was depressed all the time and mary was a party gal. diana was the chosen one because she wanted it the most and it showed.

  10. A.... ....

@AzzedineAliaFan i meant "mary/florecen WERE NOT given a chance to meet their full potential, they were merely back up singers in berry's eyes, he did allot of motown artists wrong (taking their royalty/earings,etc.) i hope he gets what he has coming to him. If it wasn't for the artists, where would he be! Granted he did great things for blacks but he mad sure he lined his pockets first.

  11. A.... ....

Respond to this video...also today it's not about talent, (rihanna, etc.), all you have to do is push the envelope, talk and suggest sex and you are a star (female artists). Back then you had to have singing/dancing abilities or you didn't go anywhere. Mary/Florence weren't groomed as diana was, she had an affair w/berry so she was of course pushed to the forefront. Mary/Flo were given the chance to meet their full potential and that was fucced up, i think.

  12. A.... ....

@SpazChat madonna, didn't start out as a trio, she was solo. the supremes were a sisterhood, childhood friends, and i could never just step on them to get to the top if i were her, it seems all to cold/calculating, i read mary's book and some of the things it said diana did were in concert w/berry's intentions for her. I know she worked hard and deserved what she did but how they ousted florence in the midst of her issues (being raped) was just too cold, i'm sorry

  13. A.... ....

@SpazChat i agree, i think she's one of the best but isn't getting her dues as her contemporaries are (the beatles, etc.). I feel it's because she is a woman and a black woman, it's sad that she didn't garner more hits or more attention/press during her career, but she sure did garner her fair share of negative moments (mary's book, etc.). I am sort of torn about that, i am a fan, but i kinda believe that she did the girls wrong during the 60's to reach the top. ..

  14. A.... ....

@SpazChat wow, i got the cd since i posted this but thanx. I love that "i'm still waiting," glad it was enjoyed in other parts of the globe during it's release, the us can be/is very fickle with regards to some artist's material. . .
