Diana Ross - Battlefield Lyrics

I live on a battlefield
Surrounding by the ruins of a love we built
And them destroyed between us
The smoke has cleared
As I stumble through the rubble
I'm dazed, seeing double
And I'm truly mystified

My new home is a shell-hole filled
With tears and muddy water
And bits of broken heart
All around, there is desolation
Scenes of devestation
Of a love been torn apart

I live on a battlefield
Though one where not one
Single drop of blood has spilled
Is no less horryfying
Sweet memories
Of a bygone situation
Lie shattered, torn and battered
And scattered all around

My new home is a shell-hole filled
With tears and muddy water
And bits of broken heart
All around, there is desolation
Scenes of devestation
Of a love been torn apart

Everything that can, has gone wrong
It's gonna take spine to carry on
Like a drownin' woman coming up for air
I'm looking for another survivor
I can't see one anywhere

My new home is a shell-hole filled
With tears and muddy water
And bits of broken heart
All around, there is desolation
Scenes of devestation
Of a love been torn apart

I live on a battlefield, hey
I live on a battlefield, hey
Can't go on, baby
Tears and muddy water
Scattered all around me, babe
I live on a battlefield
I live on a battlefield

The WHOLE ALBUM is SUPREME PURRRFECTION, for you novices who didn't know it!!

SUPREME purrrfection, start to finish, front to back. And made on and for the Motown imprint (I know, I own 3), circa 1991. No one can tell me this is NOT the Supremes (okay, DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES), 100%, TO THE MAX, all the way. It does, however, take a SUPREME EAR to hear them. Think 1965 for 1991.

    Viola! PS: SUPREME background!

I have been a supreme Motown ever since 1958. she is gonna be here in n.b.n.j. I need to see her I a little disabled accident I praying that I will be blessed to see her. so I'm asking every one I am her biggest fan and I'm a performer. I even look like her and no one can sing like her but me I can prove I can send you a video. hope is what I have faith is what I got. Theresa session I have a few old video under that name in YouTube!

i love this song. it's a delicious mix of vintage supremes meets a soupcon of culture club's karma chameleon which is fitting since diana ross is the supreme chameleon and her karma led to five beautiful children, two striking husbands, and a half of a billion dollar fortune not to mention a musical and movie legacy that withstands the test of time.

Love this song but just watched a video here that the song's writer didn't like her version of it.  :(

    S.... ....

show me that video if u still have it

    S.... ....

Actually, Nick Lowe, the writer, said Ross didn't like the song but her producer cajoled her into doing it.

Its sucks! Í think she have ruined a fine Nick Lowe song

  9. K.... H....

It is a crime that this song was not a huge hit -- for both Ms. Ross and the songwriter.  It is a terrific song, and she is the perfect match for the song.  Ten years earlier, it would have gone to #1.

  10. T.... Y....

Another Diana gem that should've been a hit for her!

  11. t.... ....

    i second that emotion!

  12. b.... ....

Perfect song for her. With the way she has been perceived over the years, because of Mary Wilson's books and jealousies of contemporaries, she must have felt for a long time always on a defensive. To have people pass judgement on you who don't even know you must be a heavy burden on your shoulders. She has worked so hard for so long . . .These days whenever I see her, she looks happy. I think she has finally made peace with herself.

    you're welcome!
