Diamond, Neil - I'm A Believer Lyrics
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else, but not for me
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all my dreams
Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love and I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried
I thought love was more or less a giving thing
Seems the more I gave, the less I got
What's the use in trying, all you get is pain
When I needed sunshine, I got rain
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love and I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all my dreams
Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love and I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried
Saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love, and I'm a believer

El hizo esta rola para los monos
The Monkees led me here! :) :D
Neil Diamond wrote the lion share of Monkee songs
"BANG!" that's what I'm talkin' about. My all time fav...lead me to write songs for a bit...thanks Neil
One of my favourite songs - says it all about love
It was finally included on the album “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” in 1980.
So I thought the monkees was the original version of this until literally a minute ago
The Monkees recorded it in 1966. Even though Neil Diamond wrote it, he wasn't the first to record it.
first, neil diamond, then monkees, then smash mouth
What else?! Luis Fonsi?
Almost 20 years of Shrek❤️🥺
Comparing all versions....Neil voice is simply unmatched
And, you thought this was The Monkees, huh? Neil, the Man, the Myth, The LEGEND of legends!!!
I'll be damned, I didn't know Neil Diamond wrote or sang this song.
Sounds good too.
Neil diamond 😻. The monkees 😸 Smash mouth 😺 shrek and donkey 😾
So, Neil Diamond wrote this? Sweet Caroline! people say I'm Monkeying around, but I'm too busy singing to put anyone down.
Monkees version is best

i am greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen
Monkees version is better
I love neil diamond but the monkeys were hip
I prefer the way the riff is played by the session guys who recorded the Monkees version better than the way the riff is played on this - the original (?) recording.
-every version of this song is amazing don’t be bullies-
This is the best version. Nothing beats the OG.
1:14 parody. Poker: I saw her double ace! Now I lost my house
He is a great singer and the song is amazing, but I like The Monkees version better.
How many thought this a "monkees" song?
Probably the only solo artist who stood out in all decades of music.
The loner streak singer...he makes songs so effortlessly simple pure and classy at the same time
Muchas gracias chaval por ser como eres y por todo lo bueno que eres, que Dios te cuide y te proteja de todo mal, eres el mejor del mundo
I like the Monkey’s version
Donkey and Diamond oh yea
Many can identify with this song!
Robert Wyatt's cover is the best one.
Love you Neil!
Neill wrote this song.
i used to rush home from school everyday to watch The Monkees, compulsory viewing, saw them live at the old Sydney Stadium, probably late 60's, their version rules
my mom went to h.s. with Peter. I thought that was pretty cool
So, was Neil trying to sound like Bob Dylan here?? Whatever he was doing it sounded weak and lethargic, even. The Monkees' version has more energy, and Dolenz' voice more youth and vitality--and fun! This was not "Masters of War," after all, but a catchy pop song. Maybe Neil thought he had to join the Dylan parade to be taken "seriously." Anyway, it is clear that, as a popular recording, the Monkees' version is the important and definitive one.
C'mon, that's just not fair, comparing Neil Diamond to Bob Dylan. Dylan's a triple threat - he can threaten to "play" both the harmonica and the guitar at you and threaten to "sing" at you.
Bob Dylan once went to a respiratory therapist complaining about the horrible noise his breathing made. The RT told him that it would stop making that noise if he would just stop putting the entire harmonica in his mouth.
Even as a kid I found Diamond's voice very old fashioned sounding, certainly not cool.
1966 a 1992 son 26 años de música. Por lo que entiendo aquí. Toda una vida. Bien por Neil.
He stole it from shrek
I seriously hope you're joking.
Muchas gracias por la mañana tengo un examen 🤟🤟
1st time i heard this song was sung by the Monkees...wow a shock to find out Neil wrote this
I just love Neil Diamond’s performance of this great song! His voice will live on for “all time and generations”, now and in the future”! The Monkeys made the money on it! 🥰👍
.01 .fs WAY TO GO NEIL DIAMOND------- FRANK---
Tin Huey did a great version, also.
One of my high school sweetheart’s mom favorite songs
Weezers cover is better then all the rest
I don't remember hearing this version before, this is good :)
Smash mouths version is the best
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ your my farrite singer ! ! 😗😗
Qué recuerdo de esta canción!!! NEILDI 💃💃💃👏👏👏❤️
Song sung blue
Must say this version i did not like. Always a Monkees fan. I must say that Smash Mouth did a good job though for a modern band
This version is great, It's Neil's song after all. But he later did some versions with a lot more gusto, which I prefer over this one.
This song is going on my playlist - great version
Muy life is a lie
The Beatles learned everything from the Monkees.
-Lloyd Christmas
We played this for my school play. It was Shakespeare, so at first we were playing serious string quartet, but for the finale, we played this! For strike, the sound crew put this on and all of the cast and crew danced. It brings back great memories.
Wait, which play?
Doesn't seem QUITE appropriate for Romeo and Juliet, and less so for Hamlet...
Now Macbeth, on the other hand...
Sound CREW? at my school it's just 2 guys one on lights and one on sound, you guys are lucky
It's an awesome song. Thank you Neil Diamond!
Love the original but also like the Monkees cover.
The Doors brought me here...
Alastair West How?
Jim was a believer...
The Master of the game. Just went through and saw how many hits he sings or has written. 🐐
Love this song...
my favorite version is smash mouth for shreck
wow i actualy thought the monkees wrote this song but it sounds cool
According to wikipedia "I'm a Believer" is a song composed by Neil Diamond and recorded by The Monkees in 1966 with the lead vocals by Micky Dolenz.
The monkees have nothing on Neil diamond
GoPro2000 : Except of this song written and composed by Neil Diamond.
I always thought shrek was a terrible movie........
But, then i saw her face
Whose face? Fiona?
@Mr Spectacals it's a joke
Shrek...as in drek.
best version of all
Neil wrote the song...
This original and the Monkees' cover - I love both!
Monkees performed it first.
It’s not a monkeys cover, they are the original people to release the song, it’s there song, it was written by Neil tho
is this the original because I heard the song was released in 1964
The version of Neil Diamond was released in 1967. Therefore the original is from "The Monkees" (1966).
Neil recorded it 1st. Release means nothing. Where did that intro come from, the call and answer in the hook? From Neil.
You've heard his 1964 recording? Didn't think so.
The thing with covers is, the original artist dumped their soul into the song and you can hear it in their voice. Cover artists can never mimic that raw passion
MrBeatlesfan117 well this isn't a cover, but anyway I'm not sure I agree that somebody covering a song can't mimic the passion of the original artist. There are plenty of covers that have far more passion and emotion in them then in the original recording.
Guns n roses KOHD is way better than the Dylan one.
@Zooropa_Station All of those are subjective.
Yes, it's subjective, I just provided examples that were worthy of representing that subjectivity, rather than covers that are perceived as garbage tier like Kidz Bop and don't help my point. Using absolutist words like "never" as the OP did is actually objectively wrong, and specific examples not hitting the mark doesn't preclude there being instances that refute the OP's stupid claim.
Re Re
Good example, Tim Buckley I believe, the original being Leonard Cohen.
Neil motherfucking Diamond!
Dan Zabo down under
I like the rock cover a bit more, but I like all the versions of this song.
Timeless classic
This is a great original, I think I prefer this version
2:44
its all ogre now :(
Now you're thinking about shrek
Anyone else prefer this version to The Monkees?
Voex1966 The release date means nothing. Neil recorded it first.
smash mouth version has more energy too its the third remake the first one I heard... from Shrek.
Smash Mouth is really good, too!
I like both.
SHREK IS LOVE, SHREK IS LIFE!!!!!
Shrek wrote this song for The Monkees. This is Neil Diamond's cover
@breikes It's a joke, son.
@Seventh Mist No, it is indeed a fact.
To just about everyone, r/whoosh
Shrek was not around in 1966 and Neil Diamond wrote and The Monkees made insanely popular in 1966-1968 and then Shrek copied it
I agree.. Neil's ripping them all off recording this.
i'm a believer too...
Song sung blue
now i m a believer ; i m in love :)
..fairytales!!
Me Too ! Dreams come true ;)
Fantastischer Sänger... dieser Song ist sooo Klasse!!!
Carmen Ebert ya das is wunderkind William Niemann
Now playing on Freezknotable: The Monkees "Butterfly Effect" (songs made famous by The Monkees recorded by other artists) "I'm A Believer" Neil Diamond. (writer)
Every version of this song is great in my opinion
... but your carlton dance though ...
even smash mouth
right, bro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMfE1qH87tU&list=RDXRXM-qGIeZA&index=30
You are not wrong, but Neil voice is simply unmatched
Not true. The Shrek one is just annoying.
Songs are short without a lead solo.
I love Neil Diamond don't get me wrong but I like the Monkees version better
Sebastyn Daugherty, this one is better
Giuliano
You won't find many agreeing with you there, he wrote some good songs but didn't deliver them with the right interpretation, maybe his voice wasn't good enough or he just was a bit old fashioned sounding.
Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon is another example.
Neil Diamond who turned 75 on Jan. 24. wrote "I'm A Believer", a big hit for for The Monkees, 1966.. . Here is is his own version of the song. .https://youtu.be/7ePXck9H1pI
I prefer the Robert Wyatt version for my sins :-)
Great song...huge talent! (written by Neil too, but popularised by the Monkees)
He wrote it, great version, but I have to say I like the Micky Dolenz vocal a little better.
I agree. You are CORRECT, sir.
Mickey's voice is so distinctive isn't it? And he considered himself an actor, not a pop star.
I could go with that although Neil's voice is great too. Basically, when it comes to Monkey's songs if they are really well written it was probably from Neil....
I like the monkees version way better. Its just short
Ogrepowered Song.
Of course Neil Diamond is the songwriter. How can anybody even question that?
I never knew about it until earlier tonight...
Who does not remember, The Monkees ...
singing this song at the opening of their series. The Monkees
