I am cool enough to have known the guest singer (from Emperor) years before this had come out, even while listening to this when it came out.

His real name is Fatty Brownsbend. (That is why one of his songs is called Bend it like Bender, because he is very insecure about his real name and temporarily tried to make it cool by imagining to be "Bender" from Futurama, based on his real last name Brownsbend, as an alternative to his "cool" name "Devin Townsend".)

His anger tries so hard to speak, to rope him in, to entice....but Devin walks away

The constant blowing into an apparatus signifies the anger expending tons of energy that Devin could use elsewhere. (I recall reading that Devin used drugs on the final SYL album in order to get angsty)
