Devil Makes Three, The - St. James Lyrics
Well, I went down to Old Joe's Barroom
Down on the corner by the square
They were serving drinks as usual
Oh, the usual crowd was there
In the corner sat Big Joe McKenzie
And as he turned to address the crowd around him
These were the very words that he said:
Well I went down to St James Infirmary
To see my baby there
She was laid out on that long white table
So cold, so pale, so fair
Let her go, let her go, God bless her
Where ever she may be
Let her search that whole wide world over
She'll never find a man as sweet as me
When I die, won't you bury me in my high top Stetson hat
Put a twenty dollar gold piece on my watch hand
So the gang'll know I died standing pat
I want six crapshooters for pallbearers
Pretty gals sing me a song
I want a jazz band on my hearse wagon
To raise Hell as we roll 'long
Won't you roll out that rubber tarmac
Thirteen men go down to that old graveyard
There's only twelve of them men coming back
Now that you heard my story
Have another shot of the booze
Anything anybody should ask
I got the St James Infirmary blues
I got the St James Infirmary blues

I am completly in love with this song for two for maybe three years now, this version or Louis Armstrong´s or any of them.. masterpiece
This cover has absolutely no reason it should be this fucking good. But it is
now it's rare to find a band that's good playing live, let alone better live recorded

This band has some of the rhythm lost in modern music. Odd combo that works. Talent too! I'm over 70 y/o, and I really like this stuff. My guess would be they have a future!!

1.551 men go down on that old graveyard, only 1.510 men coming back..
Cab Calloway cover...? 😵
It's actually a traditional folk song, said to have come from an 18th-century song The Unfortunate Rake.
this song brings me to tears, reminds me of the day my daughter died. she wasn't even a year old.

I swear, there is no such thing as a bad version of St. James Infirmary. This is definitely the most up-tempo one I've come across, and it works so much better than I expected it would!
