Destroyer - Crimson Tide Lyrics
I was like the laziest river,
A vulture predisposed to eating off floors.
No wait, I take that back,
I was more like an ocean
Stuck inside hospital corridors.
Despite what they say, improves.
So I could care less, on a night like this,
I'm on the lookout for anything that moves.
Crimson Tide!
I know when to hold em.
And I know when to leave.
I know where to go,
And I know how to breathe.
I know how you blow
You can look at the world
Till you don't know what you've done.
You can follow a salary
To the bottom of the ocean.
Is that yours? Throw it in the pot.
I thought I was smart, I'm not.
I thought I was sick and dying…
Chickenshit singers paying their dues.
A circus mongrel sniffing for clues.
You watch the blonde make mincemeat of the brunette.
An actress pays her debt
To Satan again and again…
I say it, I don't know, just cause.
A child coos sweet nothings to a box of fuzz.
He's not a child, he's 25.
He's never felt so alive!
Crimson Tide.
One more dead rich runaway, who gives a shit.
Must be nice, must be the rain.
When lightning strikes twice,
The funeral goes completely insane.
The funeral's insane…
The funeral's insane…
The funeral's insane…
Vicious stampede, vile promenade,
But in China teacups two fools find love
Back at Hotel Parallel, hysteria I can feel it.
She says get into the zone,
The zone is brimstone and wire.
You open your mouth
To watch your teeth shudder
At the mirror,
At the clutter,
Crimson Tide…

These must be the most pretentious comments on utube. I mean this music is ever so slightly cool. With the exception of the "sound" of homeboys voice, highly unoriginal though. But to clock the vocabulary alone that's brandished about this column you'd think John Lennon popped in to do a quick single then off. Ya dig?Prolly not.
every one has a butthole
what is this pretentious hipster garbage?
O that's what he looks like
Reminds me of the kind of guy you'd find hanging out deep in an IT department
just graduated college.
thought i was smawt, still nawt.
taken with his last 2 albums this is soooo repetitive, but i think that's a kind of tongue-in-cheek point he's making.
I guess the 80's are back? Sucked then, sucks now.
Successfully bridges the gap between post-punk and Dadaism.
Danny Sexbang really took a turn when Ninja Sex Party broke up
Leonard on qualuddes
This reminds me of Severed Heads.
Fatty Boombalatty, this is so weird. This song came on autoplay, and about a minute in, I thought of Severed Heads! Then I thought of something like "Year of the Cat" by Al Stewart, then I was just kind of confused, then I just decided to enjoy the song 😋 then I read the lyrics another comment left (I like the lyrics), then I saw your comment, and realized we must have been listening and thinking of Severed Heads AT THE SAME TIME (Twilight Zone theme) 🤯
Wow ........ amazing!!!!!😳👍👍✌
It sounds like bad 80s.... 😬
Like a train wreck and My poor grandma wondering the hospital corridors naked, you honestly don't wanna look, but you can't help it!
that bass line is killing me
Lmao is this a parody? Schizophrenic lyrics doesn't make a song cool or deep. Painfully pretentious.
Cmon dude the lyrics aren't that hard to follow along with, also this songwriting style has kinda been destroyers thing since like Thier first album
amazing song
Why do I imagine Ricky Gervais: the matter-of-fact existential comedy, British accent on a dark stage
Literally slapping my head going "why the fuck does no-one else GET THIS?", and at the same time going "thank fuck no-one else gets this. This is mine."
Really interesting and catchy for me to listen to, nice work 👍
Thanks Paul Shugrue!
Check out this song! https://youtu.be/KOWMdecEPtw
Just discovered this cat on RSU Radio on N.E. Oklahoma.
Seen from the name of the group I was expecting something more... heavy. Metal rather, but this is very interesting as well. I'm keeping an eye on Destroyer
*"I couldn't care less". What the fuck is it with Americans and rational speech?
this shit sucks , monotone voice cum guzzler makes no sense either wtf
This song lives in my head
"She says 'get into the zone', the zone is brimstone and wire... You open your mouth to watch your teeth shudder at the mirror, at the clutter... Crimson tide... "
My funeral's fucking crazy right now
Lo ha vuelto a hacer...
This song rocks my soul!
I love the music. His style of singing is alittle unusual.. ok. I stand corrected i listen to this a second and third time i gotta say this song is really good..
Bom 👍🇧🇷👏
This is my freak out in the room jam 🤸🏻♀️
Can I just say, from the bottom of my heart the depths of my fucking soul, I've been listening to Destroyer for so long now. Even back in the New pornographer days, I love that band but the Bejar cuts always spoke to me. I'm a little Canadian Fuck boi, I grew on the opposite side of the Country that's Dans from staring out at the Atlantic ocean in Labrador no less. And without meandering and getting to oversentimental it makes me so happy, to picture this poet on the other side of this land slab scheming up these crazy irreverent musings. And I get super inspired by this band, it's what I'm listening to when I'm churning my own art when I'm writing when I'm creating when I'm in drunk in the rain at the park or at the pier you feel me. I can't wait for this album, it's all of have to look forward to next year.
i'm here because i heard someone say this guy has a steely dan sound. i am revoking that guy's music appreciation card
Still flying in this myriad of 80’s inspired synth rock. God bless you Dan and the boys. Can’t wait for the concert in Texas.
22, - TRAIN OF DICKS ON YOU. SUCK 'EM. 22 DISLIKES FOR YOUR BLOW. BAD JOB.
Multi layered brilliance.
Right on! 🖤
I don't understand why people think this is so good. More power to you, but I really don't see the genius that these comments below are describing. IN the indie world these days it seems you have to sound like a muppet from sesame street and sing words that are just meaningless run on jumble to be considered a genius. The obscurity of lyric and video is really becoming so annoying to me. If I sing like a cartoon character and make no sense to anyone but pretentious cool kids that can only pretend they know what I'm talking about and on top of that shoot a meaningless video that literally says nothing, wrap some fabric around someone's head throw a cowboy hat on an old man..... I'm cool. Matter of fact I'm a living genius. That's music these days. This will not stand the test of time. Maybe today it's hip and cool but 40 years from now it will be like it never even existed at all. #tryingtoohardtobeobscure #lookhowdrabandemotionlessIam #lookhowuninvestediaminmyownart #idontcareaboutmyartsoyoushouldthinkitsgenius
Please post a link to what you are producing that is better. Thanks.
Am I watching a car commercial? A really bizarre dream? What decade is this? Is he a lounge singer now? I'm so confused, I wish this was just a bad dream
He's been a lounge singer who records his music in a supine position since Kaputt dude. That's four albums ago
Y E S S S
I love Destroyer ♥️ There’s nothing else quite like them. They lyrics, the auditory aesthetic...just wow. My love for this band is just 💖💖 I love all Destroyer, new and old, but the Kaputt album is easily my favorite. Crimson Tide definitely has a “Bay of Pigs” type feel to it and IM HERE FOR IT. Bay of Pigs, Kaputt, and Downtown were my favorite off the last record so... 😊 I’m a happy camper
"the last record"? dude has released two albums since kaputt lol
Reggie Watts new stuff is weird...
This reminds me of a music review I wrote stream of consciousness and said something wildly offensive without meaning to and never deleted or fixed it even though I know now
move d chair
A new discovery.
Bloody brilliant!🌞🌛🙂
He's like alternate universe wayne coyne
I have seen them in the Netherlands! and I was completely blown away! How good they are live and I am so happy with new music
Welp BoJack Horseman ends and this new album comes out on the same day, I don’t know how I’ll handle the emotions at that point
POKER STARS DOT NET i repeat, POKER STARS DOT NET. How else can you afford 4k without a dropped ethics gamble? (But phenomenal songwriting and cinematography)
I know someone in the future is going to misinterpret this song and scream “Roll Tide.”
I don't think many Alabama fans are going to sit through this
Such an underrated band. Only 3 thousand subscribers? Dayum!
So True!!!!
Who would have ever guessed that Bejar was a college football fan?
Lucas Chance it's more likely he lifted that from Aja. Bejar doesn't fuck with pop culture
Such beauty, as always.
Does Dan play poker ?
Ha, loved the PokerStars cutoff appearance. Shout out to PokerStars for buying out FullTilt and refunding me my thousands years ago.
I met Dan after his show in LA last year. We had a good laugh about Bon Iver and briefly discussed the genealogy of atrocious hippy bands. My squadron and I invited him out for late night street grub, but he declined.
Austin-Smith Kelly Bon Iver took the #1 album spot on Pitchfork over Kaputt in 2011, never forget...
Mario Young they should be ashamed & disgusted with themselves
@Troy Müller Yea I no longer considered their opinions as valid after that point
I mean, it's just as easy to dismiss bejar as ostentatious hipster garbage as it is Bon Iver. It's so annoying to see people bashing musicians using the same tired platitudes.
Must have been the Lodge Room gig. I've seen him numerous times and he still blows the mainstream away!
I really like tha bass guitar here <3
Saw him do this live at a solo show back in may and had a feeling it'd be a new Destroyer classic. Glad my feeling was right. Already this record's shaping up to be a step back up from the (still delightful) Ken
Good music, but there's somethign boring to this song too, too much a need to be "pretty" & "complete" maybe. their early stuff are MUCH MUCH BETTER.
glad to have this incorrigible, laodicean bard back on the scene
I love you Dan.
As a man, I feel I should comment.
I love how Dan just insouciantly recycles moth-eaten London accents that are down on their luck and have to be used by some one
moth-eaten! haha, brilliant
I'm not normally one to play songs on repeat but I'm on my 5th listen in a row. 30 minutes of pure aural bliss.
Dan is good isn't he. Like properly good.
he is pretty decent
Bejar is the New Cool!!!!!
Total Stud!
Montreal next March!

Thank you for typing the lyrics.
Wow............just fucking kill me Dan Bejar slit my throat
very average
Not as good as most things from the Tim Watley discography I assume?
@Marty McFly Not as good as most things from the Destroyer discography
@tim watley Why?
@Troy Müller Well it's just a bit boring tbh. Compared to something from Poison Season or Kaputt or any of his older albums it's not nearly as interesting.
I was wondering what sideshow bob was up to these days
"Dan Bejar Sings The HMS Pinafore"
@Roboparadox I'd love to hear Dan cover Cole Porter
Bejar 🌶
It's good to see this esquire is all lit up and sick of fighting beneath the diseased lighting of the discotheque at night again.
Sorry, What are you talking about ?
@vitral es montaña it's a lyric from another Destroyer song, "Bay of Pigs"
@vitral es montaña He is "dispensing wisdom to the uninitiated"
@vitral es montaña The A/C is on and he's quoting his favorite Destroyer song please dont break the glass with a brick
it don't mean a thing
it never means a thing
it don't mean a thing
it never means a thing
its got that swing
Marvelous ❤️
Still the anti-histrionic type, still the most endearing one.
Kaputt II is upon us!
let's hope Dan has made another masterpiece in a dying form
Always check my notifications just in case Destroyer releases a new video for an upcoming album release and today was the day I was rewarded with 'Crimson Tide' - and what a reward! More old-school Destroyer lyrics with a big hint o' 'Bay Of Pigs' but NOW with even more pop culture references per minute than ever before. Love Dan Bejar and his music, he has never let me down. Thank you.
is it just me or is the youtube compression absolutely terrible on this one? the dark scenes looks horrendous
A louche, drunken middle-aged bachelor soliloquizing in an empty conference hall. They should have done a slow pan out at the end and had hotel staff cleaning up and vacuuming. That would have been so 2000s.
Fantastic vision
I was always wondering what it would sound like if James Murphy was cool.
If he's gonna be bringing this sonic aesthetic for the whole album then I think the tour will be dope. Just remembering how they reworked old songs for the Kaputt tour makes me extremely excited for it!
Is this true? Did I just really listened to a new destroyer song?
ah, a fellow disciple!
Hellz yeah!
Gimme that tour, baby.
FUCK YES
thank you mr bejar!
some asshat with no taste disliked this
January 31st is my birthday. What a present
Temazo. Gracias, Dan
Been having a hard time listening to the Purple Mountains LP since the loss of David Berman, but this Destroyer song evokes the same emotion that the PM album did for me. It's dark, lonely, and sad, but at the same time just heartwarming and beautiful. Can't wait to hear more!
Same here.
I’d love to hear about their recording together at Dan’s studio. I heard David spent a few months in Vancouver
@Localboy Jon Berman said he couldn't marry lyrics to the music he made in Vancouver. The two had very different methods of songwriting.
cheers for this comment, listened to purple mountains yesterday, best album Ive heard in years. wow
Mega Zord I hear a new meaning every time I hear Margaritas at the Mall 👍
