Denver, John - Darcy Farrow Lyrics

Where the walker runs down to the Carson Valley Plain,
there lived a maiden, Darcy Farrow was her name.
The daughter of old Dundee, and a fair one was she,
the sweetest flower that bloomed o'er the range.
Her voice was as sweet as sugar candy, her touch was as soft as a bed of goose down.
Her eyes shone bright like the pretty lights that shine in the night out of Yerrington town.
She was courted by young Vandamere. A fine lad was he as I am to hear.
He gave her silver rings and lacy things. She promised to wed before the snows came that year.
But her pony did stumble, and she did fall. Her dying touched the hearts of us one and all.
Young Vandy in his pain put a bullet through his brain,
We buried them together as the snows began to fall.

They sing of Darcy Farrow where the Truckee runs through,
they sing of her beauty in Virginia City, too.
At dusky sundown to her name they drink a round and to young Vandy whose love was true.

  5. R.... S....

John Denver was special. Such a poet.

  6. n.... ....

John Denver was one of the few musicians that performed his live music as good or better than the recorded version. I saw one of his concerts back in the 70's and was blown away by the perfection of his vocals and guitar playing as well as the band that accompanied him. I did not hear a single note that was sharp or flat. To this day I have never seen another performer that could match his performances.

    n.... ....

I saw him in concert 3 times and I absolutely agree.

  15. M.... V....

Too bad 27 people don't know nothing about good music

  16. t.... ....

Another great singer taken from us too soon.
I’ve read the FAA plane crash report that took John Denver’s life. Won’t post any details about it, suffice it to say that it was traumatic.
I learned to play guitar by listening to his music, and ultimately learned to fly in part so I could understand what inspired John Denver.

  17. M.... C....

Beautiful. I hate I never got to see him perform live. I was just a kid when he died. So glad we can still enjoy his music though.

    M.... C....

I would have loved to see him live as well.

  21. J.... B....

    There’s NOBODY like John Denver!!!

  22. J.... A....

It is the Walker River that flows through Yarington and terminates at Walker lake. The Truckee flows through Reno and terminates at Pyramid lake. I wish these country singers will get their geography right. A good song anyway.

    J.... A....

The only inaccuracy in the song is that the Walker does not run through the Carson Valley Plain. I have no problem with the rest of it. It just mentions places in the same general area.

  23. T.... K....

Once there came a singer. John Denver was his name. He gave us all the pleasure a simple man could give. Then one day Our Father called him back to play for him again. As much as we might miss him his gift was left behind.

    T.... K....

    smile...10/7/19

  24. S.... ....

I love him more than I can possibly begin to express. John was my teacher, my guru, my guide since i was 5 years old. I am who I am because of John Denver. He raised me as much or more than anyone in my family. He’s deep in my heart and soul.

    j.... v....

    Listen to Tony Rice's version

  40. K.... ....

Perfect performance from JD. For those of us who are trying to play this with short fingers, and can't make that 7 to 3 stretch in the intro, all of the notes can be played around the first position D shape. The two 7s are D and F#. You lose a bit of flow, as the notes aren't ringing, but its better than never being able to play it. Hope that helps.

  41. a.... ....

    David Crosby in the audience...

  42. K.... C....

I miss him so much. Lucky to have seen him in concert in 1972.

    K.... C....

    EYE SAW HIM IN 93.
    A VERY TREASURED MEMORY ... R.I.P MATE

    K.... C....

Yes, those of us who saw him in concert were lucky. We took away a tiny sliver of him that we can call ours. Doesnt it feel that way? And does it still make you cry to listen to his exquisite voice, as we know, that he is no longer here??
All these people who die in plane or helicopter crashes. Stop this, stay on the ground, will ya?!

  43. s.... ....

Is this my favorite or is Looking for Space still my favorite?

    s.... ....
