Denny, Sandy - Friends Lyrics

I've watched you rise up and I've watched you fall down
'Til you've lost everything but what money can own
And you feel alright now, but for how long?
You feel alright now, how long?

Do me a favour, stay away from my door
I could use some good company but I don't care for yours
No more pageants, no more
No more pageants, no more

I find your words empty and you know as a rule
To you I have purposefully never been cruel
But you waste my time, such fools
You waste my time, such fools

My love is not here, my love is away
You've caught me alone but you've nothing to say
And it's time to leave now and you know the way
And it's time to leave and you know the way

Go and live in the country and I'll stay in town
I have everything but what money can own
And I'll be just fine now, so long
I'll be just fine now, so long
So long

She was the godmother of British electric folk. Fairport Convention made it from scratch.

I wish I could tell people to ****** off as elegantly as Sandy.

Saw her several times at the beginning of the seventies. The North Star Grassman and the Ravens and the Sandy album years. Was still at school when I fell for her in 1969 after discovering those three excellent Fairport Convention albums, What We Did On Our Holidays, Unhalfbricking and Leige & Lief, Met her after her Sandy gig at the Redcar Jazz Club in 1972, She spoke of strange supernatural vibrations in the room where we chatted, She's a Capricorn like myself born in early January and a kindred spirit.

I could listen to her sing all day, a voice so soothing; honest, pure. Thank you for posting this.

Such a beautiful song - very meaningful for me. Loved it since 1980 xx

Nice post, Eric - one of my favourite of Sandy's many, many classics. Really nice sound quality, too. Keeping the legend alive :-)
