Delta Rae - Heart Won't Break Lyrics

I could see it coming a thousand miles away
I keep on running, but this ain't something I'll escape
You're gonna leave me, you say it's better this way
But I know its gonna hit like a hard rain falling on an open field
There ain't no cover, when you say its over you can't tell me how to feel

'Cause my heart won't break the way you want
If you say those words, your work is done
And there's nothing you can do to stop the tears that I will cry
And there's nothing you can say that puts the good in your goodbye
'Cause my heart will never break the way you want

I try to stay distracted, but the days are too long
Baby, were you acting every night when we were alone?
Felt like magic but it was all just a dream
So you try to let me down easy say you wanna stay friends
Well you can turn the pages of my story, babe
But you can't tell me how it ends

'Cause my heart won't break the way you want
If you say those words, your work is done
And there's nothing you can do to stop the tears that I will cry
And there's nothing you can say that puts the good in your goodbye
'Cause my heart will never break the way you want

So if you're reaching out
In a month from now
As I'm starting to mend
And you say you made
Such a big mistake
And "could I take you back again?"
No

'Cause my heart won't break the way you want
If you say those words, your work is done
And there's nothing you can do to stop the tears that I will cry
And there's nothing you can say that puts the good in your goodbye
'Cause my heart will never break the way you want

'Cause my heart won't break the way you want
'Cause my heart won't break the way you want
'Cause my heart won't break the way you want

Delta Rae Heart Won't Break Comments
  1. M.... Y....

Wow this song is amazing! I really loved how they changed things up a bit. They should definitely keep changing things up a bit more often. That's what makes their music amazing and better. This is really different and unique as always. Ladies and gentlemen America this is how you do it and supposed to do it. Took a look at this song and thank me later. I also want to add that what I love about this song is that it doesn't sound like a pop song. It doesn't have that pop feel to it and I just don't see the pop hit money maker on this song. It's just like their every other songs. None of their songs are bad. All of them are equally amazing. This song honestly sounds more country, folk, and gospel mixed together and mixed with their original stuff to it too. Brilliant job. They have amazing labels for sure and they definitely know what they are doing and their labels are incredible too.

  2. e.... ....

I have to be honest, I don’t care for this song. It sounds like every top 20 pop music I have heard a thousand times before.

  3. K.... T....

This is poppy-country with snap tracks and all that. It’s basically pop, but with mandolins, acoustic drums, and an overall country instrumentation. But I LOVE IT.

  4. D.... ....

It's defnitely not a bad song...quite the opposite, it's a very catchy song, but you can't deny a similarity to more common pop songs. So I definitely understand and agree when people say that the band changed and lost part of what made Delta Rae different/special. I personally think it's not so much a change in their writing/music but much more in their production of those songs.

I have not been able to see them live (Europe is waiting!) but from what I've seen on youtube they definitely have amazing passion and fierceness when they perform live and even these new songs seem to be exactly up their "old Delta Rae alley" when played live, but for me, it just doesn't come across in their studio versions anymore!

I feel that in general they tend to overproduce their studio/album versions of some songs. I first noticed that with "Chasing Twisters" (first ever song I heard from them). I first heard and fell in love with the EP version of that song...it has something very raw and wild to it (much like described in the lyrics)...that vibe (for me) got totally lost on the "After It All" album version.

I think we all agree that these are some fantastic musicians, songwriters and singers and we are happy about any music of theirs that comes our way and we want them to be able to do this for a long time! But sometimes less is definitely more and I feel like with their production they could definitely take a step back in that direction.

(Just my humble opinion and I'm no music expert by any means)

  5. F.... G....

    Love it!

  6. R.... M....

It's a no from me. I got so excited when I saw the new upload but it is a huge disappointment. 😩

    R.... M....

Rita M. Hitch a Ride more your vibe?

  7. A.... J....

I'm at a loss for trying to understand any of these naysayers I see..
    This is 🔥
    Everything they've done is🔥
I think there is an intellectual dishonesty in fans of Dance i/t Graveyard and Bottom o/t River bemoaning a change or inconsistency in style and tone just because it isn't spooky ooky.

I have, in my opinion, always heard a remarkable continuity of purpose. The authenticity of the delivery in the lyric. The presence.
    🔥
I get that every song doesn't have to be your cup of tea, but that's the beauty of music. A song could not move you at all but could move somebody else. It could light a fire in the soul-- as literally ALL of Delta Rae's work I've been lucky to come across has done for me.

    Can't wait for June 27th! 😀

    A.... J....

"Do you ever dream" wasn't "spooky Ooky". "A Long and Happy Life" wasn't "spooky ooky". "What You Thinkin' Bout Baby" wasn't "spooky ooky". "You're The One For Me" wasn't "spooky ooky". "Bottom of the River" and "Dancin' in the Graveyard" were, but that's hardly the entire Delta Rae catalog. This song sounds like a Katy Perry cover.

"No" askkxgqousha yas sis, shut him down

  9. T.... G....

    Crazy but true

  10. N.... T....

I absolutely love Delta Rae and love the song, but I'm not going to lie, it sounds VERY similar to Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyEuk8j8imI

  11. h.... ....

say thanks to a lot for your internet video it aids a whole lot.

  12. m.... ....

Wow, I do like this one! Good energy, and now the great talent of Delta Rae can give us a variety, showing us their gifts. Thanks Delta Rae.

  13. K.... M....

Hands Dirty was the previous one and I enjoyed it also!

  14. S.... G....

I discovered them from the song “bottom of the river” that was used as soundtrack on the game Mafia3 and being obsessed with that song and liking them ever since

  15. N.... L....

This could be an Ed Sheeram song but well sang.
I like it as an unique song, a different one, but your own sound is better.

  16. g.... ....

    Nice. Stretching out!

  17. W.... W....

Love it! Can’t wait for a new album!! I’ve been here since the original YouTube channel and all the live songs. I’m just so impressed with all y’all’s hard work and dedication to music. Never stop creating! I’m ready for more!

    W.... W....

WorldWide Woman you’re the best ❤️

  18. A.... L....

Beautiful lyrics, music - the whole shebang

  19. S.... A....

I love this great song. ❤

  20. k.... ....

This band has been trying to break for so many years.... This is definitely not their best work but if it gets them more ears I'm all for it.

    k.... ....

Believe me bro. Their best work is going to be on this record. Do a search for “wrong ocean”. One of the best songs I’ve ever written in their entire career and it’s on this album. Tons of other great new ones as well

    k.... ....

@Taylor Holloway Wrong ocean is one of my favorite songs from them. been seeing them do it in concert for yrs now... Thats the song they should have released as a single.

  21. P.... ....

Music artists change their style over time, and that's ok. Regardless of how much I love Delta Rae's earlier stuff, if they were just trying to repeat something they'd done earlier, what would be the point of making new music? They gotta grow. Not every song or every phase is gonna be my favorite, but I believe that they'll be better off as artists for having the chance to explore and stretch themselves.

That being said, this sounds weirdly like Love Yourself by Justin Beiber (sp?) and I don't love that

    P.... ....

I think it's due to the chorus using a similar chord progression and they both utilize similar negative spacing in the accompaniment (Love Yourself was the reference that came to mind for me as well). Coincidentally Eric Holljes used to collaborate with Mike Posner, who wrote songs for Bieber on that album (though not Love Yourself - that was Ed Sheeran.)

  22. L.... M....

This definitely does not have the Delta Rae magic that most of their other songs have. I'm not saying it's a bad song, but it's much more generic than the rest of their stuff and I personally find it a bit boring. Not saying artists can't grow and change, but it's sad when you start to lose that essence of what attracted people to you in the first place. If I wanted a generic pop-y country song I would turn on the radio.

    L.... M....

But the point is, in order to survive (financially) they need to BE on the radio. They are a seven piece (with Gideon) touring band now, with a couple of crew members. That's a lot of folks trying to make a living out there. The only way they're going to be able to make it is to play bigger places. And that's going to take some radio exposure. (wait for the upcoming album release - I can guarantee they're going to have a wide variety of "sounds" on that; so if it takes a couple of tunes on the radio for us to get the whole package then I'm all for it!)

    L.... M....

@Chris Garden Party Concerts I can understand that. It's a good point. It's just disheartening from a die hard fan who has been following them since the beginning to hear them put out such a lackluster song when I know they are capable of much, much more. It's like they are having to dumb down their music for the mainstream.

    L.... M....

L McCormick these boys don’t tell me anything down. They write songs from their heart and they bring them to the band and they turn it into Delta Rae. They recorded this album and a little house in Nashville. We’ve been watching them make it on Instagram for the last couple of weeks. This is much more representative of Delta Rae in the album they recorded in 2017 that never got released. Go to their shows and you see one of the best live performances you could ever hope to see and based on all of the new songs they’ve been playing you’re getting ready to hear the best Delta Rae album that has ever been recorded

    L.... M....

@Taylor Holloway I've been following this band since they started and have been to every show of theirs that comes to my area. This particular song is not my cup of tea, but they have many many more that I adore. It is just my personal feelings on this particular song. I know I'm not going to love everything a particular band puts out, I just don't want them to lose that style that makes them so unique.

  23. C.... F....

mannn I'm shooked!! **immediately turn on notification** I DONT WANNA MISS ANYTHING ANYMOREEEE

  24. M.... ....

Disappointed... was expecting Bottom Of The River.

    M.... ....

Good news! They already made Bottom Of The River.

    M.... ....

    Tafkans no shit u dumbass!

    M.... ....

Have you been listening to anything they’ve been doing over the course of the last few years? Bottom of the river was written in 2009 and that album was recorded in 2011… We’re talking almost 10 years bro. Vans grow up and they change. I saw a Delta Rae in nashville during their Delta Rae revival And all of the new songs they played from this new record we’re fucking amazing. They’ve promised via their Instagram page that there will be more than one new album from them this year and we’re hearing talk of maybe some EP’s as well so fear not.

    M.... ....

Hawk Holloway who TF do u think u are to question me about what the vibe I was hoping for? Bitch GTFOH with that BS!

  25. S.... T....

the Kings and Queens are back to save the music scene!!!

  26. A.... F....

Okay, I'm kind of a "Bottom Of The River" person but, this is dam catchy. Kind of a Shawn Colvin vibe. Did not really expect this but I can understand why they may have did it. If this helps keep their career going, then great. Artistic integrity is great but rarely supports a career. Not saying that is the reason for this, just speculation. This a talented group so I'm just going to say, best of luck with it. But come on, tell me it isn't already bouncing around in your head.

    A.... F....

Mine was that too but now its Hands Dirty

    A.... F....

Love this open minded approach to listening. Thank you. We’d like to offer Hitch A Ride for your pleasure 🖤

    A.... F....

@Delta Rae I guess you haven't seen my dark, poetic reply to that song already. 😊

  27. V.... B....

    Fab!!!!!!

  28. P.... L....

    I love this!!!!!

  29. B.... B....

What makes them "Delta Rae" is their ability to sound amazing no matter what they sound like. Country, Southern Gothic, Folk, Pop.. They are still coming out with great music and I don't think this song is any different.

    B.... B....

@George Erdner definitely not last, but it's all good. 👍

    B.... B....

@Brenda Bernal So? What is their worst song? Even when it's "all good", there is still something that comes in last, right? I realize some fans can't accept that their heroes aren't perfect. I'm not such a fan. Are you?

    B.... B....

@George Erdner 😂 Damn, dude. You're really taking this seriously. No, I am not one of those fans either. I have personally never been able to get into Bethlehem Steel, so that one definitely ranks on the bottom. Does that mean it's not a good song? No, it just means I didn't like it. Much like you and this song. By "its all good", I meant: that's your opinion and it's okay. I didn't mean that all of their songs were good. I am very aware that no one is perfect, but for me, this band comes pretty damn close.

    B.... B....

    @Brenda Bernal Music IS serious.

    B.... B....

@George Erdner Indeed. Have a good one. ✌

  30. O.... ....

Love it! When are you coming back to San Antonio? Saw you in concert & you were so freaking great!

  31. R.... B....

    I love it!

  33. B.... m....

Well for me that is super catchy and loving it, it’s on repeat!!! And making my day a delta rae day!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  34. C.... H....

Don't care about the comments below, I'll still cry sing along. It's like a 2019 follow up to If I Loved You

    C.... H....

wouldn't you love to see some sort of mash up between those songs?

  35. S.... ....

So happy they're back, sounds great!

  36. S.... K....

I understand why Delta Rae is changing things up a little. I think it has more to with the label than with them, but I hope they don't sacrifice that Southern Gothic Voodoo vibe that makes them unique.

    S.... K....

@Delta Rae I plan to see you in Atlanta in September. Delta Rae has been one of my favorite bands ever since I first heard of you. I am a little amazed by this particular song, because it doesn't sound like the kind of music you made in the past. And I never, ever begrudge any artist any financial success that comes with their efforts.

    S.... K....

@Delta Rae That's too bad. As it says in the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 10, verse 7 "the labourer is worthy of his hire". It is good for an artist to create art which pleases the artist. It is fortunate when others reward the artist because they also like what the artists creates. And, there is no reason for shame or embarrassment for artists who are also skilled at their craft to use their skill, every now and then, to craft something to please an audience who will pay them what that they are worthy of.

    S.... K....

George Erdner In the modern day music industry you won’t see many artists, especially those at our level who tour in a van and play clubs, make money on record sales. We make our money on the road. And writing songs takes you down every possible path, sometimes inspiration comes in the form of a gospel song, sometimes a pop anthem. In this case, this song was almost yet another break up ballad from Eric, and Ian said: dude, we have to make this one upbeat, it’s a message of empowerment, not sadness. Hence the beat. It’s just creativity flowing. Not every song needs to hit everyone the same way, but it’s kind of harsh to say we sold out. We are just trying to get through our own ups and downs and make music that reaches people as we go, this song works for some and not for others. We don’t think it’s too big a departure from Cold Day In Heaven or You’re the One for Me off our second record. But hey maybe you’ll like it more live, or maybe it’s just a song for some other soul who sees their own story in the lyrics. See you in ATL, thank you for the support, we appreciate you.

    S.... K....

George Erdner First of all if you’re going to use the term like “sell out” then you need to know exactly what the hell you’re talking about in the first place… Selling out is when you make music that you don’t want to make for the sole purpose of making money… this van has never done that. Delta Rae has had these songs written for the last years trying to get an album released and Warner Bros. was standing in their way and thankfully Valory Music stepped in and signed them after they finally wrangled out of their Warner Bros. deal and navigate to make the record that they want to make. also Don’t base an opinion of a band or album off of one song you don’t even know is on the record yet… They’re releasing a whole bunch of music this year some will be on the new album and some will just be digital singles🤷🏼‍♂️ When you have six people in a band and six very strong songwriters you can’t expect everything to sound one particular way… Nor can you expect bands been Together for 10 years to sound like they sounded 10 years ago… what I do know is whatever genre they choose to work and they blow me the fuck away every time I hear them and I can’t say that about any other band I’ve ever heard. They are consistently great no matter the genre. It’s mind-boggling and wonderful.

    S.... K....

Agreed! I love the darker southern sound they had with BOTR and Never Die 💕

  37. j.... d....

This is great. Super catchy with that same strong sense of self that all Delta Rae’s songs carry.

Also if this “sounds like everything else”, the problem is with the variety of music you listen to, not this single offering.

  38. E.... M....

Oh... so we're pop now :(

    E.... M....

Elora Maxwell can’t we just have one bop?! ;) keep tuning in Friday’s ❤️

  39. G.... a....

Like someone said below, it kinda lost the "delta rae" touch in favor of something more mainstream, definitely not a bad song but hope the other ones have more variety.

    G.... a....

for those of us that have been going to shows and all know the songs that are going to be on this record you have nothing to worry about. Fantastic fucking batch of songs coming your way this year. And well more than one albums worth❤️🤘🏻

    G.... a....

Stay tuned for the Friday’s to come ❤️

    G.... a....

@Delta Rae thanks, I will! Haha

  40. B.... ....

This sounds like every band I like who are not Delta Rae. I dig it, I'm just very confused

    B.... ....

They signed with a label that puts out formulatic music, expect to hear much of the same from them.

    B.... ....

Scurvy Knave They are signed to Valory music. It’s a small folk label. I don’t exactly know where you’re getting your information from. And for those of us that have been to their shows and I’ve heard all of the new songs that are going to be on this record it’s going to be fucking amazing.

    B.... ....

    Have faith young padawan 😉

  41. O.... D....

It's pop-y and still has that country folk feel! I love it!!

  42. T.... D....

Y'all are so amazingly talented! ❤️❤️❤️

  43. M.... G....

    Love it!
