Delta Rae - All Good People Lyrics

There are dogs in the yard, howling at the moon
There are sinners like me our judgment's coming soon
And I stand at the bottom of this dark and lonely well
Saying "please give me answers so I might escape Hell"

I watched from my window as they gunned down unarmed men
Tried to say it's not my problem: couldn't happen to my friends
But the truth is they're my brothers, and they're my countrymen
And if we lose our better angels, we won't get them back again

Come on and raise your voice above the raging seas
We can't hold our breath forever when our brothers cannot breathe
Come on and raise your voice above the raging seas
We can't hold our breath forever when our brothers cannot breathe

Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Our brothers cannot breathe
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Our brothers cannot breathe

All good people, won't you come around?
Won't you come around?
Won't you come around?
All good people, won't you come around?
Won't you come around?
Defend your brothers
All good people, won't you come around?
Won't you come around?
Won't you come around?
All good people, won't you come around?
Won't you come around?
Hold up each other

Anyone here have recommendations for songs/bands with a similar sound to this? I love the call and response feel of this, along with Bottom of the River

    We must be united.
We are all cut from different sides of the same cloth.
I cannot diminish you without lowering myself.
We are new shapes from the same mould.

    We need to stand united.

    Now more than ever.

  12. Z.... Y....

First heard this live in Arlington, TX. Still gives me chills. We need the good people now, more than ever.

  13. b.... j....

A pretty good song with a good message however ( we need to stop so much of this violence by limiting access to guns ) this isn't the way to go limiting access may only may thing's as well people will always find a way to access to, the countries specially scandanvian one's, the people have a damm lot of weapons however the violence in such countries is incredibly low not even comparable with most countries, now tell is it really a problem of people having access to gun's ?

  19. E.... S....

Love this song! But this has been bothering me: it's judgments not judgements.

    E.... S....

Both spellings are valid, though 'judgment' is the proper spelling which 'judgement' is considered a variation on.

Along with the violence highlighted world wide this weekend, an unarmed black man was shot on the north side of Minneapolis by local police. pained at the violence not only in my municipal community but my global one. I thought of this song and turn to it as a meditation and prayer to give me the strength to stand in solidarity and demand justice and peace in the world.

  24. m.... ....

I would totally buy this song! You guys are amazing as always!

I've been a fan of Delta Rae for a long time. I finally got to see them live in May at the City Winery in Nashville and I can honestly say it was the best concert I have ever been to and my husband agreed. I'm on their mailing list and this was sent out when it was posted here. Such powerful words that if more were brave enough to speak them, people would have to listen.  We've got an election on the horizon so perhaps the timing is providence at play?

  27. P.... H....

I rarely ever comment on videos but this one is worthy of it. The meaning behind the song, the messages in it and the messages take from it, combined with the raw and beautiful talent of Delta Rae gave me the goosebumps. I have always been a huge fan of their music but this just takes it to a whole new level. I can only hope that we as a whole can raise our voices above the hatred and the pain and the sorrow that has seemingly engulfed this country over the last six months. We have to do something about it and listening to this song is a damn good start.

Thanks guys, for another great song and more importantly a great message. Until we can get common sense to replace political agendas, we are going to have rely on our own brotherhood of man to make it better. I hope your still playing this and building momentum when you get here to Dallas next month. My thoughts will all of those affected by this and the other senseless killings we have seen recently.

    *-*

  55. p.... ....

This is amazing. It's awesome that you guys speak out against this violence but also that this song is so good. Just goes to show how great music comes from real feelings.

p.s. for someone who advocates for strict gun control i realize i have a pretty out of place profile picture. lol...well I love guns (to shoot for recreational sport) and even I say whole-heartedly that we need harsh gun control. This could all be avoided if we just prevented these evil individuals from aquiring these weapons in the first place. Along with stamping out the violence and hatred within these people's hearts.

    p.... ....

@KAMbam I am on your side. Thank you!
