Del Shannon - Out Of Time Lyrics

You don't know what's going on
You've been away for far too long
You can't come back and think you are still mine.

You're out of touch, my baby
My poor discarded baby
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time.

Well, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
You are left out, out of there without a doubt
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're out of time.

The girl who wants to run away
Discovers that she's had her day
It's no good your thinking that you are still mine

You're out of touch, my baby
My poor unfaithful baby
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time.

Well, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
Yes you are left out, out of there without a doubt
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're out of time.

You thought you were a clever girl
Giving up your social whirl
But you can't come back and be the first in line, on no.

You're obsolete, my baby
My poor old-fashioned baby
I said baby, baby, baby you're out of time.

Well, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
Yes you are left out, out of there without a doubt
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're out of time.

Sing a song.

Baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
Baby, baby, baby, you're out of time.

You don’t know what’s going on
You’ve been away for much too long
But you can come back and...

You're out of touch, my baby
My poor discarded baby
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time.

Well, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
Yes you are left out, yes you are,
I said you’re left out of there without a doubt
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're out of time, alright.

I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time

What a great version of this classic Song. Del is such a great interpreter of this material. I believe this was from an alum Del released in the 80's. if you like this check out his own "Runaway" with The Traveling Wilburys. Enjoy the music.

  3. N.... N....

Are you sure Del Shannon sings this??? Can seem to find this song anywhere but here on Youtube?

  7. D.... C....

I loved the Stones version of this when it came out on the Aftermath album, but when I found this version by Del, I bought the CD and have worn this song out playing it over and over. Del was a great singer, and I miss him. RIP Del.

  11. b.... k....

He should have been in The Traveling Wilbury's, same style.

    b.... k....

There were rumors he would replace Roy Orbison on their 2nd album,
but for some reason it just never happened ..... I agree, he should have.

    b.... k....

He was to replace Roy Orbison when Roy suddenly died, but so did Del the following year, by his own hand. So sad, such a great singer! RIP.

  12. S.... A....

  16. o.... m....

Great version...just great.....but check out Brian Cadd.......the Aussie legend singer, he is up there with Farlowe.

  17. A.... N....

The thumping bass does it for me in the Stones version

  18. G.... H....

He could cover any song and carry the weight of the original and, sometimes, do a better job.

  19. R.... c....

    A great song

  20. J.... C....

  24. O.... G....

love you Del, rest in peace my friend.
lot of people don't know this, but Tom
Petty and the Heartbrakers was the back up band on this album.
before their fame they were a back up band.

    O.... G....

NO. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers actually played a major part in Del Shannon's short comeback before His untimely death.

    O.... G....

No, this was two years after DAMN THE TORPEDOES, so it NOT before their fame.
You neglected to mention the very important fact that Tom Petty produced this album.
And finally, the band name is The Heartbreakers, NOT The Heartbrakers ....... OMG .....

  26. v.... ....

    Great cover version !!!!

  27. M.... C....

esta canción es hermosa en cualquier versión, sean the Ramones, the rolling stones o el mismo del shannon

    M.... C....

MANUEL CARRERA BENITEZ para mi mejor. interpretación es la de shannon

  28. H.... C....

    me gusta esta version

  29. J.... E....

    just as good as Farlow

    J.... E....

    Much better.

  30. A.... R....

XDel Shannon must of been really hurting by the songs he wrote and sang. Big Arty

    A.... R....

This is a cover of the Rolling Stones, but yes, his songs were often in minor keys and he ultimately committed suicide.

    A.... R....

Del Shannon suffered from depression. It's evident in his early songs too. None of his songs have a really positive outlook on life. But still he's a musical genius

  31. G.... R....

You guys ought to try this one on for size: Rolling Stones and Chris Farlowe Out of Time. A duet, eh? It's an excellent synch. Google it

  32. s.... w....

Better than Mick, never thought I'd say that!  Beautiful rendition - love Del.

    s.... w....

+sarah wood Yeah I have to agree, this is pretty amazing

  33. i.... ....

He doesn't do his WEEEE WEEEE WEEEE WEEEE vocals in this. He should go A- WHAAA HWAAA WAAA HWAAA, like everything else.

  34. i.... p....

This version is amazing!! Better than Rollings Stones.

    i.... p....

Bettter than the Stones version but not quite as good as the Jagger- produced UK hit by Chris Farlowe....imho. And I love Del.

    i.... p....

Yeah, I agree. Farlowe's voice is a trip but Del's ain't too shabby either. I like Farlowe's version of Paint It Black also.

  35. l.... ....

del did this kickass 1981 album with the help-? - of tom petty. his excellent bersion of sea of love charted # 33 approx. on billboard that year.

  36. L.... o....

Wonderful. Never get tired of this song, Chris Farlowe my favorite, the Stones, but Del's is up there with them.

  37. r.... m....

This BLOWS MY MIND!... on so many levels.

  38. 0.... ....

My favorite 60's song was always Out Of Time - the Chris Farlowe version which I assumed was the original version. I then found out that the Rolling Stones made the  original and was hooked on their version. Then I find out that Del Shannon has his own take on it and I also love it. For one of my favourite songs to have 3 unbelievable versions is nothing short of amazing. Cheers guys!

@Katie Newman The really great songs are the ones you can love almost every version

    0.... ....

Check out Elvis Costello's version. It's on the Spectacular Spinning Songbook live album and video.

    0.... ....

The Bee Gees did a good cover to this son when Robin and Maurice were probably only 16 or 17 yrs old.

    0.... ....

0001endorphin The Bee Gees covered this song pretty well when Maurice and Robin were on 15 yrs old. Barry was 18 at the time. Check out their version.

    0.... ....

Terry Winter Nice one, cheers mate!

  39. E.... R....

    Gone Wayyyyy to soon!!!....RIP Dell!

  40. J.... ....

Beautiful voice. This is such a great cover. Thanks for sharing. :-)

  41. A.... S....

he did many things so great, what happened?

  42. L.... ....

I really enjoyed this! Every time I listen to the original by The 'Stones, it sounds to my ears like The 'Stones were actually covering an obscure "B" side by The Supremes.
Would've like to have heard The Supremes record a version of this song in the 60s; it would've fit them well, IMHO.

  43. m.... ....

till now i didn't know that Del covered this RS gem! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Check out my RS covers, type Ray Wasik.Shadoobee!

  44. e.... ....

    RIP Del.

  45. T.... ....

brilliant best version ive heard del shannon is king

  46. L.... ....

You wont hear a better version than this , spot on

  47. R.... M....

Outstanding version. Dell is certainly missed. Great backup by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers too.

  48. C.... S....

Del was so good. Tears up this Stones tune.

    C.... S....

god bless you! Del Shannon! I cannot hear this too much!!!
