I don't know what Ms. Simone would say about this cover, but I find it amazing for several reasons: (a) this song is unlike anything else in del Rey's entire discography (a discography of 30-40 songs that have become available only through YouTube); (b) del Rey is stretching herself yet again, both in range (low to high notes) and tone (nasal); (c) the tempo foreshadows the astonishingly slow "Honeymoon" and "Terrence Loves You"; (d) while I find the tone harsh at times, I like to think that del Rey was trying to sound like she was crying while singing; (e) finally, this song fits perfectly in her repertoire of (morbid?) sadness and constitutes yet another piece of autobiography (loosely interpreted): Del Rey herself was an "other woman." I'll be the first to admit that she is not for everybody; there is plenty to object to. But, as you can tell, I continue to be enthralled.
