Can't stand The Sweet but do like this very much. I guess it's all about the sound.

E for Effort, boys. Musically it hews almost identically to the Sweet original (except for the unnecessary and intrusive shreddy guitar) and Brian Connelly's vocal is vastly superior...so, as with 99% of cover versions, what's the point?

yes the music is great on this but Connolly was streets ahead with the vocal

@dlamiss Oh, l totally agree with you there about the vocal...and the only thing that makes the music great, is playing Sweet's arrangement note for note! Joe Elliott is definitely no Brian. In fact his voice kind of grates on me. I lost interest in them when they kicked out Pete Willis.

I honestly don't see any difference between both versions.

I'll give Def Leppard the points on the music front, but Brian Connolly's vocals have a lot more character and gravitas.

Action was off the awesome Give Us Wink album not Desolation Blvd, but both were great rock albums by Sweet.

God going back over 40 years for trying to remember, but the US version of DB had a different song selection than the UK so that might be the difference? I am pretty sure I had Action on vinyl, but I only had DB, not Wink. And the only song I recall it missing was Little Willy, which I loved and my best friend's mom hated... But she turned me on to stuff like Michal Frank and Big Mamma Thorton, so she's excused (RIP...)...@Zelko Karin

A pretty faithful version, actually.

They said they did that deliberately as a tribute to the original. They did a great job. The original by The Sweet was the very first record I ever owned. I love both versions.
