David's voice was made to sing that heartbreaking song and nobody can sing this as truly as him. He has the perfect blues voice, deep and rough as a Wilson Pickett or another. The guitar's line is pure alchemy with the voice and the lyrics. The only thing which could be difficult here is to listen to it if you are desperately sad.

Ok... I know the history of source material ripped off for the original PC “Doom” game’s soundtrack is well-documented among fans of same, but I don’t remember any of the details... but upon hearing the interlude that starts at @3:17 here, I was IMMEDIATELY transported 20+ years into the past, and am positive that this riff was ripped for one of the level’s BGM. Appropriate that my path to this vid started with a remake of a video game song (Final Fantasy V’s “Home Sweet Home”), but somehow diverted to a Metallica medley of Dio songs, and then a segment from a live recording from the Binge and Purge box set (that I hadn’t seen since the 90’s, but always liked) that featured kirk playing a version of this song, which I had never heard the original Deep Purple version of before today!

Burn is their best album ...Blackmore is amazing

As far as I know, this is the only song that has been performed by Deep Purple, Rainbow AND Whitesnake (all 3 bands).

I didn't know about the Album, 'Burn' until about five years ago when a Friend cooked me a copy.
After a couple listens it's a favorite ; especially when driving, top down but a little ashamed that I missed so much. Great album, but no need even saying it...

Once, when I was really young and bored while waiting for a group of people to get ready to go to some massive party, I grabbed a guitar that was laying around and started playing this, the intro. I just started playing, so I wasn't really good, and the people didn't really have much understanding for a beginner. It was going well, wasn't missing notes and making mistakes, so I sounded really good, even surprised myself, so I really got into it, decided to give it all I've got even if my fingers start bleeding. After about 30s, people started saying: "why don't you play something instead of practicing?" As my proud moment collapsed into noise, I was about to take a deep breathe and stop when some guy (and if you knew him or at least saw him you'd never guess) said: "He is, it's Mistreated by Deep Purple, spot on." As everyone turned towards him, included me, he looked at me and nodded as a sign of respect, and then all the heads turned towards me. I got chills, the same as I got them remembering and writing this comment. That was my first lesson in judging and estimating people.

In high school I was having a house party and late into the night some friends and I jumped into my 86' Chevy blazer to smoke and take a ride. Drove just a few blocks to a small lake and blared this song. A friend had just had his girl breakup with him and so I played this song and it was one of those music finds you at the perfect moment and a cool break away from the party and maybe reality for a breif second.

One of the greatest bands to ever record music. Just listen to this and then try to go back to today's crap. Made me hard to please when it comes to rock and roll. I find myself turning the radio off a LOT nowadays. Saw a woman cover this on The Voice, so had to listen, cuz also heard "Child in Time" a couple of years ago and was instantly addicted. Love these guys.
