Deep Purple - Into The Fire Lyrics

Take the trouble to decide the things you do
Will not be the things that don't appeal to you
See the mess your makin' can't you see your fakin'
Gonna make it hard for you, you're gonna--into the fire

Turn on the mandrake that was given to you
See if you can make it like the others do
Feel the blood a knockin' when you're finger poppin'
Gonna make it hard for you, you're gonna--into the fire

Stop your bleeding mind before it's over and done
Listen very closely to the message I've sung
Feel the blood a knockin' when you're finger poppin'
Gonna get a message through, you're gonna--into the fire

One of my favorite guitar solos..love that little rift at 1:55. this is the perfect example of the old saying, "the notes you don't play are as important as the notes you do play"

Yes, I knew you were referring to that bit. It's may favourite too. Ritchie's solos are so tasteful. Yum.

Great song. The organ is great but it kinda undermines the otherwise overwhelming sense of METAL.

    E.... ....

I wouldn't call this heavy metal. It's heavy rock, of which metal was a derivative.

Deep purple is metal, not just hard rock. They have heavy riffs as well as fast paced agrgessive riffs, loud bombastic drumming, screaming and dark/serious lyrics, they play at max volume with distortion. They also have a ton of shredding How are they not metal?

    I.... F....

Yes songs and albums like this are definitely metal but they have a ton of stuff that isn’t even close to metal. They did it all.

    I.... F....

@The Truth Hurts Right but lots of metal bands do songs that arnt metal. Black sabbath did changes, iron maiden did when the wild wind blows and metalica did nothing else matters. I like all those songs but they arnt really metal, but the bands are as a whole.

    I.... F....

Ian Flanagan That’s what my point is. I think In Rock is Deep Purples only metal album. The rest line machine head and perfect strangers dabble in hard rock.

    I.... F....

Ian paice says it himself they’re not heavy metal there is some facets of what they do that are heavy-metal but that’s different from who they are.A hard rock band.

  25. P.... L....

I like this riff A LOT MORE than "Smoke on the Water". In fact, I think this is my favorite Blackmore riff of them all! So catchy, I find myself whistling to it! Truth be told, "Smoke on the Water" is overrrated and overplayed. Blackmore had a lot better riffs than that. This one is like "Frankenstein" meets "Iron Man"!!!!

    P.... L....

Funnily, this is a Glover riff :D

  26. .... ....

    Splendid !!!

  27. H.... ....

Incredibly heavy for the time....and way ahead of the times. This whole album is so tough...so heavy metal, so edgy. Totally different than Machine Head.

    H.... ....

Totally agree! This album kicks ass, on every song! I've listened to it since it came out, pure hard rock, at it's best!

  28. x.... ....

Pretty similar to 21st century schizoid man, and Richie was in fact well aware of, and impressed by, King Crimson. But, it's definitely better than Schizoid Man, better flow. That album by Crimson is a masterpiece, but Schizoid Man is weak, the rest is brilliant.

    x.... ....

Similar style but not enough to say copied.

    x.... ....

It's definitely more than just style. Two songs with completely different riffs can have similar style, but in this case the riff is in fact noticeably similar. Not the entire song, mind you, but the main riff.

    x.... ....

xyhmo I always thought it was similar to Iron Man

  29. M.... J....

    This song is my ringtone.

  30. A.... C....

It sounds like a mixture of "I am the walrus" with "21st century schizoid man".

    A.... C....

More like Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" meets "Iron Man". (by the way, Blackmore was a big Edgar Winter fan!)

  39. k.... ....

Isn't it a plagiarism based on "21st century schizoid man"?

    k.... ....

You can't just make a claim and expect others to prove it otherwise when they disagree with you. It's you who must prove your own claim.@kakolykia

    k.... ....

I don't know if I'd say plagiarism, but they're noticeably similar (and in fact Blackmore was impressed by King Crimson prior to writing this album, that's straight from an interview here on youtube) and anyone who can't hear that must be practically deaf, or just dishonest. And not the songs as a whole btw, just the main riff.

    k.... ....

Was thinking I heard that too but its pretty far from it once it starts but you know it influenced this song for sure.

    k.... ....

@nobodyaskedbut you're saying this better than 21st century schizoid man?!

    k.... ....

The two songs have totally different vibes and it never occurred to me that one might have influenced the other. But then it's like saying that all jazz is just a copy of itself. I've heard people make ridiculous claims about plagiarism and this is one of them. People say that Arthur Brown's Fire sounds like Doors' Light My Fire. Obviously some people are tone deaf.

  40. J.... G....

    such a sweet lullaby

  41. L.... W....

Cool song. Blackmore's guitar tone is so cool. Remember hearing his solo on Kentucky woman. Very very original better than what Clapton maybe even Hendrix was doing on guitar who both were great but Clapton was a white brit version of the blues. Love Cream though. They definitely put some time into their recording though, made great LP's. They weren't lazy. Hendrix, well what can you say about him he was a super alien sent down from a weird planet. Watching him play is like WTF. Richie is pretty close to having that originality. Love listening to them all though. Era gone by. Never happen again.

@Rhys Wachtler No, he's wrong. Read my post further up here; No one called this stuff metal back in the day. No one! Oh, and the notion that NWOBHM wasn't influenced by punk, that's what's absurd. Priest and Maiden included. I don't give a fuck what Steve Harris says in that regard. It's fucking obvious.

    l.... f....

In the early 70s only black sabbath plaied heavy metal. This track is very near to heavy metal but i think is hard rock. The critics says that led zeppelin 2 in rock and black sabbath were the albums that made heavy metal, but only black sabbath was pure heavy, led zeppelin 2 and in rock were only near heavy metal, i think that is hard rock, very hard but not heavy...

    l.... f....

@BLoooDYSaBBaTH In rock is more violent than 2 first Sabbath albums

Sabbath was doomy , DP was more street , and first bring what became Speed metal elements

Judas Priest is from the same era ,

They updated to modern form around sad wings of destiny abd completed and perfected and pushed even more that Speed and thrashy direction for Years fo come in 1977/1978 ...with double kick attack ( See the schema with Fireball 6 years earlier ;) )..

If you dont see similarities , listen again .

Also I saw a 1974 DP interview and John lord mention the term Heavy metal ...

I have Made in japan review from 1973 , it mention " Heavy metal kids "..

I was introduced to this band at age 10 (I'm 45 now) and Into The Fire was one of the tracks that my five year older neighbour played. Was an instant favourite, and is one of my absolute favourites to this day! It was recorded in November 1969, this one, and it was extremely heavy for its time. It's still quite grunty, I think.

  68. A.... ....

It's funny how you have a king crimson pictures, and Purple stole this song from Crimson... These are my two favorite bands :)
