Deep Purple - Hold On Lyrics
You're sweeter than the morning
When the sun is shining down on me
There is nothing you can say
That could make me go away you see
But you keep saying to me baby
Hold on--I feel I'm getting ready
Hold on--I feel I'm rockin' steady
Hold on--I'm gonna make it with you woman
Hold on--You got to gimme some love, gimme some love
I held back before
But your love took me easily
You got the power
I knew was gonna creep up on me
The more I give
Although it's mine now
I know it won't be for long
There's something in the saying
That a woman needs a little more time
I'm getting tired of waiting for you
Giving me some kind of sign
Hold on--I've got to love you when I want to
Hold on--You've got to love me when I want you to
Hold on--I ain't gonna let you leave me baby
Hold on--No never no more
I know the game you're playing
And I guess you think I'm easily led
You think the words you're saying
Are really going through my head
I'm gonna take you home
And give you all I can
I'll prove to you, baby
That really I'm a man
Hold on--I know I'm feeling ready
Hold on--I know I'm rockin' steady
Hold on--Guess I've made it with you woman
Hold on--I've got you giving me love
Something that you give me
Keeps me hangin' on
No use me stayin'
There's nothing to be done
I'm gonna take you home
And give you all I can
I'll prove to you woman
That really I'm a man
Hold on--I only want to take you higher
Hold on--You are the root of my desire
Hold on--C'mon baby light my fire
Hold on

Totally funky, totally American, Blackmore’s solo is super funky as is the Jon Lord Fender Rhodes piano solo that follows.
Ritchie Blackmore said he did not like this album but his solos are extremely inspired. His slide playing on the entire album is very emotional.
My favourite DP song! Too much soul in Coverdale/Hughes vocals and what a wonderful guitar solo by Blackmore.
!esos 36 pulgares abajo no saben nada d musica!Deep Purple es el mejor grupo d rock pesado d todos los tiempos!
стронгбрингер мой любимый концерт.
Singing David Coverdale is more flexible I like a few lengths more fun than Gilan. It pushes too hard, not bad, but I vote for David C.
Horrible! The vocalists are struggling, this isn‘t deep purple! Blackmore should repair what he messed up! Instead he moved away. What a shame!
Don't teach your father to love your mother.{A Russian proverb} Sorry!
Fantastic crooning from Mr Coverdale and Mr Hughes
Is there a women in the backing vocals or is that Glenn Hughes if so what a range 😀 David Coverdale wow what a voice
I love this l.p so runderrated
Love the diversity that DP and each individual did throughout their careers. Has anyone done more?
Richie didnt like this song, but what a wonderful solo he played on it !
Jon Lord organ solo is so superb and so harmonious!!!
This sounds somewhat influenced by The Doors.
Come on baby light my fire
I just heard this on Sirius Deep Tracks for the first time. Big fan of Purple but very unfamiliar with this album. This is great. Much different stylistically for them. I keep reading how Richie didn't like this but I think his solo is fantastic. I swear that man could do a blues album and it would be one of the best blues albums. It's also great hearing Jon Lord on an electric piano for a change.
Love it
Ritchie was a tough nut. I saw them with a Band before them called ELF the lead singer was
Ronnie James Dio
Ritchie splits and forms Ritchie
Blackmores Rainbow talk about
Egos. Dio got to the point of saying F### it when dealing with
Blackmore. I Love Blackmores style but those other guys guys
Hughes / Jon Lord who I consider
the Greatest Rock keyboardist I have ever seen then you had Coverdale on vocals and Ian Paice
on drums. I scratch my head why
Ritchie would leave this talented
line-up.
Why would Blackmore break up Mark 2 when they were at the heights of their success top selling band in the world? Why would he split with Dio who was on the verge of super stardom? Why would he axe Graham Bonnet after the most successful Rainbow album? Why would he break up Rainbow after he finally was a headliner in America? Blackmore could have been more of a household name than page if he didn’t keep walking away from success. So many questions but no answers.
@The Truth Hurts I doubt he would have it any other way even if he could change the past. Page needs the spotlight to pump his ego and consequently can´t walk down the street without some idiot pointing or yelling at him. Blackmore on the other hand is a recluse who lets the music do the talking (at least that´s the way I see it). He has a pretty unique/difficult personality and I´m sure that reflects in his playing which truly is special. Things are as they are meant to be and as I said, I don´t think that Blackmore would change a damn thing.
Luka Draganic All true but for us fans whether you liked Gillan, Coverdale or Dio it would have been amazing if he stuck with them. Imagine Mark 2 staying together for 30 years while doing solo projects with Coverdale and Dio. To me it’s an easy fix if band members start hating. Take a two year break and go do some side projects and then come back home to the bread and butter.
@The Truth Hurts Hmm, I'm not sure Coverdale would even have a career if Gillan hadn't left. At the time of the audition for Deep Purple he worked in a clothes shop, had one half decent demo tape and that's about it. Of course, a singer of his caliber would probably break the scene eventually but the gig with Purple made him a star literarly overnight.
glenn hughes and tommy bolin great players!!!
You know that in "Strormbringer" Ritche was still in the band right? Bolin played in "Come taste the band"
I love this song... Always have!
Callate chachalaca
Great song! funky stuff!
I love it one of the best purple songs
thanks for the thumbs up
@matthew king Yes great track and the key that the chorus is in is unexpected
Steely Dan reference
how so?
@tulllguy The vocal harmonies, tempo and vibe I think 👍
*_A treasure lost in time ..._*
I read so much how Ritchie hated this and Ritchie hated that and every DP album since the reunion is mediocre. I believe Ritchie was the main problem . He was just putting in the time. He lost all interest and creativity. Watch how he performed on stage during the 70's and compare that to anything on stage after that. He just stands there disinterested and frowning. Maybe if he wasn't such a prick DP could have soared. He hated that SOTW defined them. And as with any band...This attitude that ever album has to be just like the previous one is fucking stupid. Metallica gets the same unfair rap. Personally I enjoy anything DP does with Mark 1, Mark 2, or the current lineup with Morse. Just enjoy it for what it is. Every song can't be a chart buster and it ain't gonna get airplay anyway. Burn was ok , but not a fan of Coverdale or Hughes.
mark 1 were with evan..mark 2 gillan mark 3 david coverdale hughes
Yes Ritchie sounds like a negative character sadly :((
Beatles, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, are the King, acho q e assim q escreve, desculpa se não for........
I don't care if this album doesn't sound like "regular Deep Purple", this shit is awesome. So soulful and funky
I've gotta get this album. Damn! I've never heard most of these songs and I'm definitely a fan of this fab band. Fantastic songs!
excellentissime album !
Amo's y señores,en lo musical...........
This is David Coverdale's worst Whitesnake album, an album before his solo album Whitesnake. I do like the song Stormbringer, just barely. Record Is Early hair metal. I did play this record 20+ times and just got tired of it. I'll check Wiki to see why the DP Members phoned it in.
It is not Whitesnake it is Deep Purple love this album
@Louise P +1 and is a hell of an album...great like all mark3\4 albums
@paolo rossi Yes agreed good taste 👍
People can't beliefe that this and burn is from the same band and from 74 and 74
One of my favorite D P songs. So good.
Был у меня хороший приятель , мой одноклассник Витя Бойко . Так вот он считал этот альбом вершиной мирового рок творчества , я с ним спорил , но так , для проформы , не больше того ...
funk, spiced by an indifferent Blackmore solo - wow
Coverdale ROCKED on the Stormbringer album.
never tire of listening this great song!
The very best of Deep Purple !!!
Love this.
no way this is deep purple... useless piece of shit song; just the chorus makes you puke; even blackmore and lord put on shitty solos. Thank you geln hughes for giving so much shit to purple
Under appreciated track.... but imo not quite Deep Purple.....I can understand the misgivings about it over the years.... I still enjoy it though....
I love both versions of DP all lead singers including Ian Gillan were outstanding 👍
David's voice is so sexy...David is sooooo sexy!
The Lonely Rocker digs this song!
sounds real funky!
For me one of the best blackmore solo ever He hate it like it
There’s bits that sound out of tune to me....🤔
He plays it all with his thumb.
Loved this is 1974,still love it now.
OMG The doors influence
Like it or not, they did it well. Real musicianship on display.
I love this entire album. It does seem more commercial than previous ones, but rock bands have to eat, too.
Steely Purple
good pun, fella!
Purple Dan
NIce Video!!!
I think Ritchie hated it cause he was jealous... this is a keyboard based song and it sounds great with little guitar until RB's solo.
He hated it because he’s an attention seeking brat! He constantly used reverse psychology to make people say “ but Ritchie , you played so great and put such effort into creating a great solo , we’re so proud of you!” As he scowled in the corner, with that dejected face of his! I’ve had 3 children , so childish behaviour is evident
I love this song
Deep Purple can play Heavy rock, metal, progressive, R&B, blues neo classical pretty much any type off music genre out there with class. They are the all the round band the best what i'm saying is the are the best ever. Long live DP!!!!
yea man how do they create master piece after master piece year after year
Love this tune
Ah yes, Ritchie's favourite!
Shoeshine music he called it.
Ah Ritchie, such a primadona. This lineup, this sound, is what he wanted. He wanted something different from MKII, more blues, more funky. He got it and couldn't stand it.
Great tune! Distinctive Trapeze influence.
Great great song! I think Deep Purple was an underrated band, for me one of the greatest band of all times, thanks for sharing.
Great song. Ritchie hated though, maybe not enough to steal the melody for Starstruck...
These guys could play whatever they wanted ... prog, hard, jazz, classic, r&b, funk, ... unbelievable mastery
yes indeed, this song sublime and groovy.
1:29, is that Stevie Wonder there?
+Manos Markopoulos No! This is Glenn Hughes!
Jon Lord plays a clavinet (Stevie's specialty) throughout the song. Plus a Fender Rhodes.
Sounds like a female voice, very smooth compared to Coverdale's gravel.
Stevie Wonder actually heard Glenn Hughes in the studio and was so amazed that he had to ask Glenn "You sure you're white???".
Hellraiser Gordon is it true? I know that Stevie said that Glenn is his favourite white singer, but was he realy asked him... oh jeez, this is too funny 😅
R&B is an awesome genre.
Beautiful!!!!!!
to Matthew he's using a pick you can plainly here it, he's just killing it tho. Blackmore/Bolin both incredible talents
And Morse, mate
A Bach le habría encantado.
Regina Alday no estoy seguro... desde ya no hubiese aceptado la bateria.
Glenn really brought the R&B vocal to this one…smokin shuffle!
The best Deep Purple song ever!
you got that right
no
ok ok its subjective
Best purple song ever it’s funky shite.no wonder Blackmore left
I don't think anyone could play a better guitar solo for the song than Ritchie does here
Ritchie plays a better solo in 'Stargazer'
The tone (what the hell is he doing with his plectrum!), the groove, the melody...Ritchie is up there, alone
Go back to kindergarten.
Ritchie Blackmore dislikes this song
Hehehehe..congratulations
So why is important what RB likes? Is he the measure of all good things? In Rainbow where he was the boss he recorder so many shit albums. I liked this song with 14 and i like it now with 54.
I don't think it's relevant, I mean, this is one of my favorite songs by Deep Purple but I just wanted to mention that fun fact.
+jkalifa Except Candice Night ;)
RB is a great player of course but I was not crazy about his solo on this track it didn't really fit the soulful R&B vibe and made it sound more rock n roll in my opinion
Great track! Thanks for uploading it! 😊
Hold on...cause there's nothing for you here MEN, all and everything is "entombed in your breast". Hold on that, and fly, fly deep and far as you might.
the soundtrack our lives... rock n roll yeah
+Emiliano Ortega-Guerrero HARD ROCK AWESOME
Deep Purple can perfectly do whatever Deep Purple wants to do
Amen to that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and they do everything perfect
melhor album do DP, eu nao havia nascido aindA. show. ?
Great refined and groovy playing on a great song of a wonderful underrated album.
nazzare79 totally agree love them with Bolin also my 2 favorites LPs come taste the band and this one. definitely the route of my music desire
En av Purples 10 bästa låtar...svänger som satan i gatan! RB´s solo är brutalt...resten av båjsen gör detta storartat också!
John Lord impérial !
Blackmore hated this song because it's too Rhythm and Blues and not Rock !!!!!!
Clive Bindley That's bullshit, he played the rythm part with his thumb
Indeed Sir - Indeed!!
You mean funk? He himself said that all the rest of the band were excited about funk at that time. Isn't rock based of blues?
Veikka Järvinen it is
That hate must have fueled him to play something really credible (which wouldn't be uncommon in his case). Playing with the thumb also suits this type of song and groove. BTW; I think of Rock as a more straightforward, often aggressive version of Rhythm and Blues, with a distorted guitar instead of horns. Bands like Deep Purple added elements of classical music to it.
fucking good song it,nock the cunt out of some!
That expression “ knock the cunt out of!” The me too movement should use it as their slogan, as they go around emasculating men of influence, wonder how many “KTCOO” situations DP got themselves into during the 70s?
Love the way Glenn Hughes and Ian Paice lock into this deep sexy shuffle groove.
I love this track.. great f.....g vocals... Sorry, Ian..
This band broke up COMPLETELY AND FOREVER after their well-publicized REUNION of 1984-85...when that tour ended, and Joe Satriani stepped in, it was the beginning of their doom...and doomed they have been ever since Morse took the reign...they have put out one mediocre album after another...gimme a good break, and do what Black Sabbath planos on doing after their next tour in 2015 ...join the dodos!
+Jonny Blade Personally.. I think the beginning of their doom was pretty much the album this very track came off 'Storm Bringer' I mean Blackmore hated it... he said that's it... no more. Listen to Glen Hughes here... he's doin Stevie wonder and Michael Jackson... that guy never understood what Deep Purple was about. And then what did they do when Ritchie left? They go and get that Californian stoner Tommy Bolin in on guitar... now that was the end! I recently listened to 'Come Taste the Band'... there's only around 5% of that album that you can hear any keyboards... so even John Lord thought it was over at that point. But you're right... every single thing they've done since has been mediocre at best.
it happens with all bands , its hard to capture the magic. ritchie was brilliant but its hard to keep it fresh. i agree steve morse is overrated fast but tuneless and soulless. you cant deny that big dave could sing glenn not so much ritchie was hard to please. rainbow were good until graham bonnet joined. rising was a classic . long live r and r was good too dio spurred ritchie on and starstruck and run with the wolf are masterpieces dont care what anyone says
+Jonny Blade There's very little on this album that really sounds much like Deep Purple. It could, for the most part, be any generic act from around that time.
it sounds exactly like deep purple...this is by far their best shit....big bad balls ...every song is fucking great !!!!!!!
@Jacky J Jones Deep Purple is not just Hard Rock, the band is amazing at its versstility.
RB played the solo only using his thumbs.
@braz spangler I'm not a musician so I wouldn't know but I am almost positive he was asked that in an interview and he said yes he played the whole solo with his thumbs. Maybe he was just being funny. I know I didn't make it up lol
he was just being spikey he was that kinda guy. no such bad publicity.geniuses are always arseholes at times
@Matthew Di Flumeri i think it was holy mans solo ,obviously not this one!!
@Matthew Di Flumeri Blackmore made this improvised solo with his fingers in just one take...He could have not liked this kind of music but he was wonderful at playing it.
Couldn't agree more - the guy had the chops to play in a 'funky' environment, but essentially didn't like style...go figure...
