Death Cab For Cutie - We Looked Like Giants Lyrics
God bless the daylight, the sugary smell of springtime
Remembering when you were mine
In a still suburban town
When every thursday I'd brave those mountain passes
And we'd learn how our bodies worked.
God damn the black night with all it's foul temptation
I become what I always hated
When I was with you then
We looked like giants in the back of my grey subcompact
Fumbling to make contact
As the others slept inside
In a shroud of frost, the mountain air
Began to pass from every pane of weathered glass
And I held you closer than anyone would ever get
Do you remember the JAMC?
And reading aloud from magazines
I don't know about you but I swear on my name they could smell it on me
I've never been too good with secrets.
No...
And together there
In a shroud of frost and mountain air
Began to pass through every pane of weathered glass
And I held you closer...

Reminds me of „Honestly“ by „American Football“, it’s just as great.
I LOVE the ending to this song. It's perfect.
best dcfc track

Anyone else here after the Harrisburg, PA performance of this song with the 10 minute improvised interlude?
Death cab got me through high school
11 years ago I would listen to this album every day.. Dcfc's music got me through bad times. Transatlanticism is not only a masterpiece, it's a blessing.
This Album is indeed a Masterpeice.
Snowboarding to this song was my favorite thing ever on powder days after hearing it in a snowboard video "Lost in Transition" 14 years ago.

Nothing mattered when you had this song and the mountain.
@Jay Jay That's cool! Snowboarding to this song sounds like a surreal experience. lt's such a powerful song; It still gives me chills.

One of the Best Snowboarding Songs on my play list with out a doubt
Lost in transition? That video introduced me to this song. Every worry in life was insignificant on powder days with this song.
Full Metal Edges made me the person I am today. I love you DCFC!
Originally learned of this song as music in the background of a surf video. Fantastic.
Used to do a punk reggae cover of this song, way too loud, but no one in the band but me would listen to this song, "ulcer rock", so it would kinda die at the end instead of leaving you to think, best part. I switched it, "do u remember the DCFC, I read about them in fan-zines". Best and last album I still listen to by DCFC, 405 was first song that got me (I thought it was about 405 in LA hearing it on KXLU and then seeing DCFC alone at SpaceLand, "you don't look like you belong here?"). Saw show for this album at Wiltern. Also love that Postal Service is San Pedro guy from Dublab, KXLU again. Now DCFC is KROQ n still super talented, drummer rips, keyboard guy seems arrogant, and I love that the bassist looks like a Hobbit, but I can't do it, I wish they would/could do something like this album again. I wish they were more KXLU, n not so KCRW. Also wish Blake from Jawbreaker was playing still too n not swinging a hammer to pay the bills, but that doc bombed n soon no one will remember, like DCFC, "Do you remember DCFC?"
Again<3
The passion and longing is tangible. The memories it evokes for me are almost overwlelming.
That mystical chord progression is awesome. It adds so much to this song.

His lyrics were really good and poetic and all contributed to an emotional, epic story.
DCFC got me through the hardest time of my life so i totally agree with you nick

This is why Indie rock is the best genre ever
I've always felt that the atmospheric bridge is what really makes this track so wonderful
That guitar part <3
I've always loved this song, but it always had a bittersweet taste to me. maybe I just attribute those memories to it idk
This song was the soundtrack to one of the only exciting experiences I’ve ever had.

A fanfiction story brought me to this song. Not directly but I had long ago read the story years back and not until recently that I listened to this song and thought, 'wow I'm so naive not to realize that the story was based on a song'. Now the story always replays in my mind whenever I listen to this song. Gah. Amazing song too. DCFC is fucking amazing.
Me too! Jeez, what a small world. Ff, and DCFC is fucking awesome...
if you still have it, could you send me the link as well? would love to read the story attributed to the song.
Kittykait Candykillet I'm pretty sure we're each talking about different fics. There are probably hundreds of fics based off of some Dcfc song xD
Diana Moreno im sure it is, but im curious about the ones their mentionin, i typically stay with pokemon fanfics but im sure id enjoy others as well
I know the fanfiction You're talking about
this music is amazing. no doubt.
lyrical genius
This song. This song made me who I am. It made me see where I had loved and also lost. Sounds cheesy but it's fucking powerful. DCFC is the absolute best music to listen to while making life-altering situations. They are my favorite band, love them and it's flawless. I hope it does the same for you, whoever and wherever you are.
It made you powerfully cheesy.
@Turtleproof yeah it did :)
There is this pretty redhead country girl i know, she made me Who I am today. I used To be a quiet and lonely nerdboy, in a summer of 2013 she made me shed my shyness and really made me become myself.
Even tho we had a romance that summer, great memories staying at her parents cabin without a permission, me driving her To her work in the summer morning and other adventures, she kinda forgot about me and i didnt put up a fight. She is still one of my best friends but there is nothing but our memories left of that romance. Better that way most likely, as im currently a 24 years old and im buying my own lakeside house and im moving in with a girl i've been dating for 5 years.
Still I sometimes miss those days of youth romance
@Antti The Internet Guy She will browse your history on your phone or computer as you sleep and read this, please be more careful. I'm speaking from experience as someone that was a shy dork turned lady killer, who was then accused of being a masher even though I'm strictly monogamous.
@Turtleproof hah Well my girl, Henna, knows about my past and wont be getting mad over a small insignificant things 😌 So dont worry and thanks for the heads up anyway
continues to be my fave death cab song
