I can relate to this song in a way




A student in my grade recently passed away and now I can see how much this song means. Even if you didn't know the person, they had a presence in your life, they were "a part of you". It's hard to grasp that the space they once filled is now empty, you may not have known them well, but they were there, and now they're not. It hurts to think that you could've known them, that you could have had more than a school related conversation, that you may have had something in common, known more about them than just their name. In the song it shows different examples of this ; "we were on the same bus" " my son went to school with him". These people might have not realized or took importance of their presence before, but now that they're gone, you do. Without them there, in that space in your life, there's an emptiness, something wrong about them not being there. That's how I'm feeling about this event in my life, and I'm sure other people who experienced this event too, or one of their own, can understand.

the piano in the beginning is giving me Little Shop Of Horror vibes but i am not mad at it

You will be found is basically that classic "You're not alone" where Part Of Me is a desperate cry for people to realize that don't leave the world, because you are a part of the people around you, and taking you, means taking us, and it hurts.

And yeah I'm nearly crying in class and shiverring because of the emotions this is bringing to me.

I realized that the “you are not alone” part also sounds a lot like “you were not alone” in this song, and since this song is more like they’re talking to Connor, it kinda makes it more powerful because it is telling him that he wasn’t alone, and that suicide wasn’t the only option for him. I just wanted to say that, so thanks for reading I guess

i think i might like this version better than you will be found. the lyrics are great (and better imo) and the vibe it gives off?? its so uncofortable but i think that fits the context perfectly?? idk how to explain it?? like everything is _almost_ right, but theres something off. it doesnt fit the feeling of deh, its more authentic and real (no hate at all, i love deh).

Okay, but the piano at the beginning sounds sorta like the beginning of 'Make Up Your Mind/Catch Me I'm Falling' from 'Next to Normal'

I know that most people here are talking about the song and how it shows a more darker yet almost realistic side of Connors death vs You Will Be Found, but I feel like this song relates to so much more than the musical, just like the other songs on the album. Personally, this song helped me cope with the death of a main father-figure in my life who passed a few years ago. While I try to push the dark thoughts to the back of my head and hide them ad I pretend to be okay and have gotten over it, it's still hard. Every time that I come back to this song, I relate to it so much and it helps me express the fact that I wish I could've hugged him goodbye and tell him how much he meant to me. Although I may cry during the song, I always feel better after listening to it. Honestly this musical has done so much for me and has impacted my life so greatly, and I am so happy that I ran into DEH, and I'm glad it came into my life at the time that it did. Bottom line: love and appreciate the special people in your life, and don't be afraid to ashamed to remind them of how much they mean to you, because someday you may regret it. Remember that you will be found, and no matter what, there is hope. Believe me, I felt the same way. DEH saved me so many times, and I can't imagine myself without this musical and the theatre. If you feel that no one understands you or you feel unseen and forgotten, remember that I, a random stranger, cares, understands, and loves you. We WILL be found. We HAVE been found. Much love from this huge theatre geek. 💙

they were worried people wouldn't bring tissues and the theater would wash away in a flood of tears

It’s so weird to hear the “you are not alone” part in this song- it just doesn’t fit. It’s like this song couldn’t decide if it wanted to be hopeful or foreboding. It’s a good song in the sense that it’s about the impact suicide has on the people left behind but they probably thought it was too dark for a musical. Very interesting nonetheless.

I absolutely love this song. It's a bit more different, more like a mournful song than You will be found which more about hope. While this about remembrance. Which do I prefer? I think both songs are beautiful. But I prefer You Will Be Found. I think it flows better and sounds better. But this is great too so it really depends on what you look for in a song.

For the message of the play and all, YWBF was a better choice. Though i like this song better. But for the play, it was about being found and knowing youre not alone, they didnt really focus on Connor. More of the message he left behind. This one, i think, would make people realize that Evan wasnt a good person for doing all of this. That Connor had to die for people to notice he was alive, that something as easy as passing someone in a hallway without noticing can have such an impact on how alone someone feels. I like the songs that focus more and Connor and his life, because its his life that was supposed to be important for this.

I can see why most people are comparing this to YWBF, but to me it sounds more like Requiem reverse. Now it's not only Cynthia, but also Larry and even Zoe are showing how much they miss Connor. There's definitely a YWBF feel, though to me this song's much more personal in general. Take that followers/friends scene for example. Instead of mentioning The Connor Project - something which, despite being inspired by Connor's death, is ultimately a project directing to the community, to everyone - they talk about how many FB friend requests Connor has received. Similarly, the background talks used to be people talking about him, but in YWBF it's people sharing and praising Evan's speech as well as TCP in general. All things considered, it seems to me YWBF has a much bigger impact on people than POM, not only is the melody brighter, more uplifting but the lyrics also directs towards the community, while POM is more dedicated to Connor. Thus, I think YWBF is a better choice on stage, epsecially when performing on Broadway. It really shows how much effects have Evan's lies made, how much Evan can do. It's more encouraging, more hopeful; it really can bring people - the audiences in this case - together and get them emotionally immersed into the play. That being said, POM truly is still a beautiful song that moves my heart and almost makes me cry, seeing how people, especially the Murphys begin to appreciate Connor and express their love for him.

This song is horrible, I’m sorry lol

The song to me isn’t as ominous as it is panicked. The constant progression of the piano as well as the edge that all of them have to their voice makes it seem like they’re all on the edge of a panic attack. Also they say that they will save him about halfway through the song near the bridge but he’s already dead? And then later they say “you are not alone” but it sounds more like “you WERE not alone” at this point it just seems like they’re trying to find reason and pretty much begging themselves not to panic and blame themselves and give in even though they already have. And the whole time the backing just keeps playing in that weird minor but not really key that strikes so clearly

As much as I love "You Will Be Found" this one just feels so much more... real? I dunno, but it's almost bittersweet with a lot of the lyrics, and I love it.

"A Part of Me" has the element of being way more focused on Conner, and the tragedy in that loss, and that's what feels real.

Unpopular opinion: this is better than You Will Be found. While the message of YWBF is uplifting and hopeful, it's also based on the lies that Evan has spun about Connor, and to me, it feels saccharine and...I dunno, disingenuous. This song lets the Murphys give voice to the feelings they have inside - and yes, so does Evan, who never knew him, but his parts are outnumbered by theirs - and it feels more appropriate, a proper mourning for a son and a brother, even amidst the confusion and heartache they must feel. I get why they chose YWBF in the end - its better as an Act 1 closer - but this one feels so much better. Lyrically and thematically superior.

Would this be considered a requiem? Cause if so, this is the requiem they said they wouldn't sing in requiem 😂 Also I love this song so much. I wish it had been in the original recordings and musical
