Even though I am a Cadet, my parents have a hard time sending me off to my Academy.

Though, of course, I still wondered for the longest time how they were going to react to me deploying into a Warzone after I enlist into the Army, but this song has helped me understand how my family is going to love and support me whilst trying to keep me from deploying, once I complete Basic Training and AIT, and get that call one day down the road.

Before my older brother joined the Marines, he and I shared a bedroom. He always picked on me but I still looked up to him and my oldest brother. He was an infantryman and in security forces. When he was in Iraq, I joined the Army as an infantryman. At first he was upset but supported my decision. Two months after me and my older brother were both in the military, our oldest brother joined the Army. For a month we were all in the military together. As of now, I am the only one still serving. I heard this song when I left active duty and joined the National Guard and this song brought me to tears. Both my Marine brother and I did a tour to Iraq. I couldn't fathom being without my brothers.

I love this song. It always shakes me. I plan on enlisting in the Army. It’s gonna be hard for my baby cousin. She cries pretty much every time I have to leave. We are very close. I honestly can’t imagine her face when I tell her that I’m going to fight a war. But freedom ain’t free. And I love the line freedom makes it hard to live because it does. I’ve wanted to serve for a long time now and I still do I just hope I can come him from Afghanistan or wherever I get stationed and hug my baby cousin and the rest of my family.

this song makes me cry every time i listen to it i always think about the day i left my beautyful mexico i left my youngest brother when he was 11 i saw my father and mom crying too and the words dad said to me " dont go " i remeber that day like it was yesterday now 13 years have passed and then have better life mom doesnt need to work and dad doesnt have to work 16 hrs a day i know it was worth it but i cant deny the feeling of missing them so much .if you live close to your parents go visit then as much as possible because one day you could be missing them as much as i do .

On another note: when this came out I heard it maybe 3 times on the radio. After that, they went back to playing the same catchy stuff (which I like, don't get me wrong), and it still ticks me off how they don't play more heartfelt songs! Not all the songs on country today need to be about parties or hooking up with a girl who's bowing up your phone.

I didn't have a brother in the military but my stomach is in my throat as the tears run down my face for all those that did have a brother or sister that is or was. I have a dear brother here at home and can't imagine the pain of him having to leave me. We played Cowboys and Indians as a child in these TN hills and to this day I love to be near him and see his smiling face. Thank God for our Brothers
