Dead Letter Circus - The Burning Number Lyrics

The same old signs
Sitting here breathing in this circus
The same old game
Feeding our fears here as disciples

Build the walls higher
Take no chances
Put your faith in fear and alarm
Sleep assured if you seek no answers here
Obey, preach and comply
Be afraid

They’re keeping everything
Who is watching them while they look over every shoulder?
They're holding everything
If you question them maybe you’re the burning number
Maybe you're the burning number

Build the walls higher take no chances
Put your faith in fear and alarm
Sleep assured if you seek no answers here
Obey, preach and comply
Place your hate with mass opinion
Accept your truth as told
Every lie
Because we chose this through our inaction
So embrace, breathe and disarm
Be afraid
They're keeping everything
Who is watching them while they look over every shoulder?
Maybe you're the burning number

Nothing to fear at all
With nothing to hide
Be honest
Do you believe it all?
They say they live among us
Nothing to fear at all
With nothing to hide
Be honest

Do you believe it all?
What if they live above us?
What if they hide above us?
And if they live above us
And if they hide above us
Build the walls higher take no chances
Put your faith in fear and alarm
Sleep assured if you seek no answers here
Obey, preach and comply
The same old signs
Sitting here breathing in this circus
The same old game
Feeding our fears here as disciples

Nothing to fear at all
With nothing to hide
Be honest
Nothing to fear at all
What if they live above us?

Safe in your cage
Maybe you're the burning number

I'm just left dumbstruck. Awesome track.

  3. F.... V....

I saw 666 likes, sorry. Had to be the 667th

  4. A.... ....

Amazing lyrics...Sounds like the singer was raised by crackpot fundamentalists, and most likely scapegoated for being different, & challenging the dysfunction.

  5. A.... R....

Man, someone please tell me that there is a BASS tab for this song!

  6. A.... P....

such an under rated band, love these guys.

    A.... P....

They are becoming more popular. They have recently been in Europe

  7. L.... C....

  13. A.... d....

    far and beyond wise

  14. 1.... G....

Loving the astrological reference and the whole new world order theme. Such a relate-able song :) Fuck this bullshit terrorism threat. Glad this guy understands the true terrorists (the ones we fear) are not common folk, but are untouchable billionaires far above us all.

Cheers dead letter, I've never been a fan, but now i am for sure. Music should be used for spreading awareness and its nice to know you guys are spreading it in good taste.

  15. J.... B....

anyone see a similarity witth incubus?

  16. A.... M....

    To me, The BEST !

  17. j.... l....

    fuck the illuminati....thank you DLC

  18. C.... ....

Put the album on Spotify! Come on DLC...

  19. S.... ....

    Much better than last album.

  20. C.... S....

    That outro is amazing, mates!

  21. I.... ....

Is it just me or are a lot of the songs on this new album missing that thick, bottom end?

    I.... ....

@IAWEE91 What are you listening on? I'm gonna disagree. The low end sounds nice on my monitors.

    I.... ....

@IAWEE91 Actually I take that back, for some reason at 2:40ish the bass drops out. Not sure why they'd choose to leave out the bass on the arrival of primary theme for this tune. Maybe production error?

    I.... ....

Nah, you can tell by the drums it's more of a groovy reprise of the chorus. A lot of bands do that, where they remove the bass and have a smaller yet more powerful drum section to fill up the bottom end. Sounds fucking crazy live.

  22. j.... l....

    great message

  23. J.... R....

I can't wait to go deaf to this song when the album comes out Friday

  24. T.... ....

Love the skill of each member of this band, everyone complimenting each other and being great in their own right. Luke is on point here!

  25. C.... ....

Hmm, I don't hate the new sound but please don't do a BoT DLC and lose all edginess and what made you so awesome in the first place. Dem huge crunching rifs!

  26. B.... W....

My first DLC cameo! What a killer song too, can't wait for the pre-order to get here.

  27. C.... ....

I thought the last album was a step back.   But man these 3 songs Ive heard off this are really all good.   Certainly not the style that made me love DLC in the first place, but still some of those elements with a nice mix of new.

  28. M.... H....

    there really good now

  29. r.... ....

    Northlane need to cover this.

  30. o.... ....

Man, this album is gonna be tiny.

  31. J.... ....

Staotic nailed it.  Each song they have previewed on this new album show that they are effectively showing a range that we haven't seen previously and I have enjoyed each song.  A lot of bands say that they change because they don't want to repeat themselves, but often those bands simplify their sound and start writing more radio hits. I think a band like ...And you  Will know us by the Trail of Dead shows that you can evolve and change your sound while not devolving and keep pushing the envelope and song writing.  DLC is following in their footsteps by showing they don't have to play super fast all the time and have guitar solos over guitar solos to be good, they can make great compositions without selling out.  Love this new facet of DLC.

  32. T.... A....

DLC and karnivool are my favs <3

  33. O.... ....

    Great song!!
Judging by the lyrics this really sounds like an anti religious song although most people may not see it.

"Sleep assured if you seek no answers here"

    "Obey, preach and comply"

"Place your hate with mass opinion"

I love a band that can truthfully write lyrics!!!

    O.... ....

+Tomallgam3rz12 The meaning could actually go either way I reckon but my first thought was religion. lines like "obey, preach and comply" and "feeding our fears here as disciples" have very religious connotations. Plus all the lines that Koen just quoted can also be interpreted as an attack on religion... Gotta love ambiguity right??

    O.... ....

    @Jack Stevens hell yeah XD

    O.... ....

+Jack Stevens Ok guys I will let you let you know what the song is about. It's about data retention and governments keeping track of our searches on the net, if you look up things that question the truth that they are drip feeding us then you become the enemy.... The key lines are. They are keeping everything but who is watching them while they look over every shoulder. If you question them, maybe your the burning number. Enjoy

    O.... ....

+Clint Vincent wow haha appreciate that Clint! love the song by the way

    O.... ....

Yeah!! Tis one of my faves too.

  34. s.... ....

    Awesome

  35. X.... A....

This album is soooooo going straight to the top of the ARIA Charts! I'm sittin here absolutely blown away by this track. DLC never cease to inspire, and amaze! Cyaz at the cambridge in Newcastle real soon!!!

  36. V.... Z....

Great to be in this video!! Vladimir Zaharov

    V.... Z....

+Vladimir Zaharov (Vlad) That's awesome! Which one are you?!
Wish I had known about this, would've been so cool :)

    V.... Z....

"With nothing to hide" very quick one @abluecassette

    V.... Z....

    +Vladimir Zaharov (Vlad) That's so cool!! :D

    V.... Z....

+Vladimir Zaharov (Vlad) Was a pleasure to drop you in this video dude!

  37. D.... B....

Love this new flavor of DLC. Still has the elements of why i became a fan from the EP, but that verse is pure funk heaven gold

  38. M.... ....

    Ken Oath.

  39. 2.... T....

3 different songs from the album. none sound similar than the last ones, each showcasing their versatility. These guys May never be mainstream in the top 40 sense but these guys are hands down, one of, if not the best band to come out of Australia, and one of the best, most consistent bands in the world today. There are musicians, there are artists there are label made puppets but these guys are there own beast. I can't wait to see them live. going to be a boss fucking show.

    2.... T....

@Staotic Absolutely spot on mate! Live show is not one to be missed. Love their rivalry and friendship with another Aussie band named Karnivool who nabbed #1 album spot for Catalyst Fire, with their album Asymmetry. I'm so proud that our country has such fantastic talent too!

    2.... T....

@Staotic There is always great bands coming from Aussie yo.

    2.... T....

@Xtreme Aussie Catalyst Fire was way better than the mess that was Assymetry

  40. A.... G....

amazing, once again. i think this might be their more ecclectic album yet, can't wait to hear all the rest!
as for the lyric video, too bad this wasn't the design for the album cover, it would habe been good

  41. o.... ....

I may be sitting here breathing in this Circus, but am I really a same old sign?

  42. K.... ....

    DLC is so underrated.

    K.... ....

    @KoistOG what? I love them :D

    K.... ....

    @Suru That's complimentary man.

    K.... ....

and the word underrated is so overrated .....

  43. S.... ....

I need more!!! This is going to be a killer release. So stoked!

  44. D.... M....

    Damn. Those vocals tho.
    Wow. First tho.

  45. C.... T....

    Delicious.

    C.... T....

@Corban T. Apt word. Delicious. Juicy riffs and tone. :)
