Dead Can Dance - Tell Me About The Forest (You Once Called Home) Lyrics
Farewell now, my sister
Up ahead there lies your road
And your conscience walks beside you
It's the best friend you'll ever know
It bears witness to your soul
Make sure that the love you offer up
Does not fall on barren soil
For the wind cries of late
In the whispering grass
Our way of life is held
In the spinning wheels of chance
I believe
And the sands I believe
Rose long ago
And we're changing our ways
Yes, we're taking on different roads
Tell me more about the forest
That you once called home
For the wind cries of late
And the sun will turn to waste
The heavens we built above
Father, teach your children
To treat our mother well
If we give her back her diamonds
She will offer up her pearl
We must sing her creation's song
Show them all
Invoke the spirits that feed us
This dreaming takes too long
But I'm not bitter
No, I'm surviving
To face the world
To raise the future
So why don't you tell me
Come on and tell me
About the world you left behind
Can you tell me?

Dead Can Dance Tell Me About The Forest (You Once Called Home) Comments
One of my favorite DCD songs! I just float on Brendan's voice! I don't think there is anyone that affets me quite like he does, along with the music! Just amazing! Fun fact: DCD are certainly inspired by Joy Division. There are several songs, this being one of them, that have snippets of Joy Division lyrics. In this one: and we're changing our ways, yes we're taking on different roads." There are others. The carnival is over: the procession moves on. The shouting is over." From Joy Division's 'atmospphere.' There's others. One day I will jot them all down.
3 years ago a friend of mine asked me to share a song with her, nothing came to mind except this song; She said “beautiful and strange” months later my friend passed away, what can I say except “Farewell now, my sister”
This song is amazing! Love DCD. <3
Its been compared before, but some of the songs on this album (particularly this one) evoke the thought of Jim Morrison. I imagine if he had overcome his demons and embraced his spiritual side this is what it might have sounded like.
!! <3 !!
"Father, teach your children

*they missed out on that one
Danke für das schöne Waldvideo!
Beautiful photos
Thanks for listing the lyrics Brendan actually sings, not the ones all the lyrics sites use. And thanks for the video!
These images are from "my" forest.
2 minutes away from my house. :)
Lucky You! Looks like a special place.
