David Essex - Rock On Lyrics

Ooh

Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on
Ooh, my soul
Hey kid, boogie, too, did ya?
Hey, shout, summertime blues
Jump up and down in my blue suede shoes
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on

And where do we go from here?
Which is a way that's clear?
Still looking for that blue jean baby queen
Prettiest girl I've ever seen
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean
(James Dean)

And where do we go from here?
Which is the way that's clear?
Still looking for that blue jean baby queen
Prettiest girl I ever seen
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean
Jimmy Dean

Rock on
Rock on
Rock on
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on
Rock on
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on
Rock on
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on
Rock on
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on
Rock on
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on
Rock on
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on
Rock on
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on
Rock on
Hey, kid, rock 'n' roll, rock on

If you read the lyrics, you may notice that this song is kind of a denouement for the first phase of rock music (1956-1973). In 1974, nobody had an answer to "Where do we go from here?
" In 1975, Bruce Springsteen came up with one answer. And from 1977-82, the punk/new wave people came up with another.

This song sounds incredible because you can hear the bass pan across from left to right when you wear headphones 🎧! I remember being impressed with the the sound mix. Still a great song although I hear static on this too.

  9. V.... M....

I thought this was a Def Leppard song. But then i heard Michael Damian sing it. So i was confused and now i know the truth. I am not a big fan of people covering originals. This is perfectly fine without needing to be covered by other artists.

  46. H.... P....

I never liked David Essex. I always thought he was a smug smarmy git and creepy. I do however love the guitar on this track. You can also hear the group the Real Thing doing backing vocals.

    H.... P....

Haydn Po get your punk ass out of here

  47. R.... C....

I am glad I was a teenager when this first came out on the radio

  48. M.... R....

Is there a Remastered version of this bad ass tune...if not, there should be.way to much hiss and distortion, you can't crank it up to much because of the background B.S.noise.

I was fourteen when this song came out and they took us on a school trip to Norway and we saw the midnight sun and we were given a certificate by King Neptune certifying that we had entered into the Arctic Circle and they took us to see a glacier and we (me and Ricky F.) sneaked away from the group and it was there, in all that diamond sparkle, that I kissed another boy for the very first time and it tasted so sweet. Tasted like honey. " Tupelo honey baby. Honey from the bees "

    j.... b....

    That's gay bro

  68. R.... A....

  72. R.... S....

I remember this classic back in the day! My one guitar playing buddy put it thru a Early echo reflection delay " Haas in Hell " effect.. with stereo speakers far apart. Sounds creepy! Kinda like reverse reverb but not quite! Listen to Frank Marino song " Free" where Frank talks " Enough he cried... Enough".........weird sound...

  73. s.... t....

Not bad, except for the Glam arrangement, outdated!

  79. C.... T....

Def Leppard just did this song live what a great band.

    C.... T....

Agreed. They did an excellent cover of it. We saw them again live, last July in Atlanta! My fav 80s rock band ever!!

  80. t.... t....

  83. S.... H....

Why does this song make me want to start a civilisation in the sewer?

    S.... H....

Now you've got me thinking about the book "The Fall of New York" by the late Miles Donis. I read it over and over in my middle school/junior high years in the mid-late 1970's. This song and that book absolutely go together.

  84. D.... ....

2:10 The moment Jimmy Dean bailed out of the song...

  85. 6.... ....

Love this song. I don't know how they got that delayed echo effect on lyrics, but it's great. The vinyl hiss and crackle is a bit loud, but I guess that's just how it was.......I grew up more with cassettes, which were ok until they got stretched or chewed up :-)

  95. D.... D....

This song makes me want to buy a pair of blue suede shoes and just hop up and down in them while blaring this song 😁🤗

  96. N.... Z....

My guess is - they started recording a fairly typical, run-of-the-mill, David Essex type pop song. Then Jeff Wayne pushed a wrong button whilst replaying the bass track (making it play at half the speed and dropping it an octave),...and BANG inspiration hit and he recorded the whole thing based around that super-deep, slow bass riff. And music history was made.

    N.... Z....

Story goes while the producer went out to lunch David and Herbie Flowers laid down the vocal and bass line together. A jam basically. Herbie, who created the most famous bass line in history on Walk on the Wild Side, detuned his Jazz bass (a lot) for this. Good theory tho. 👍

  97. B.... N....

An Australian program called RockWiz has a cracking version of this song.

  98. T.... M....

Reminds me of Rockerboy Johny Silverhand.
