Dave Clark Five, The - Catch Us If You Can Lyrics

Here they come again,
Catch us if you can,
Time to get a move on,
We will yell with all of our might

Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can

Now we gotta run,
No more time for fun,
When we're getting angry,
We will yell with all of our might

Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Yeah

Here they come again,
Catch us if you can,
Time to get a move on,
We will yell with all of our might

Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can

Dave Clark Five, The Catch Us If You Can Comments
  1. p.... l....

Mike Smith--One of the most underrated singers in Rock and Roll! RIP

    p.... l....

IF based on talent, it would have been called "The Mike Smith Five" GLAD you enjoyed the video : )

  2. D.... C....

They had such a good sound.

  3. N.... M....

Better than the Beatles. Many excellent songs, fine production, and the sensational Mike Smith.

  4. F.... F....

    FRANK . FERRIERAS 2020

  5. t.... ....

Wish I could return to the 60s as a teenager

  6. R.... W....

    YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!

  7. b.... ....

Dave was a very handsome man. What on Earth has he done to his face now?

    b.... ....

Yah right....?! My only explanation... I think it's a side-effect of his KLINGON CONVERSION SURGERY gone bad. I believe it was Confucius who said... "Re-Mem-Bah, When choosing a plastic surgeon, ALWAYS be very, VERY, careful..." LOL x MAX. GLAD U enjoyed the video. : )

  8. E.... ....

Who's here still listening to this in 2019!?

  9. P.... R....

    boy could they sing

  10. G.... F....

    THEY WERE VERY VERY POPULAR,,,,

  11. G.... F....

WHAT'S WITH THE BACKGROUND ?,,,,SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOME BEAUTIFUL '60S BABES DOIN' THEIR SEXY GROOVE,,,

  12. M.... ....

For a brief period in the 1960s, the DC5 were very popular and yet their legacy never continued with other top 40 groups that people seem to remember from the era. Hard to believe, but they really were a major act in the mid-1960s. I guess a lot has to do with Dave Clark himself dropping clean right out of the music business in the following years.

    M.... ....

YES...to all of that. I also they did not go on to have the kind of LONG Term TOURING CAREER like the Beach Boys, Stones etc. that builds the legend and fan-base over the years. I believe part of this was that in a business sense, The DC5 never really were a "Group".. My understanding is that Dave treated the other guys more like hired employees in "his business".
GLAD you enjoyed the video. : )

  13. E.... O....

Song of the day. Remembering my childhood.

  14. s.... h....

Who remembers going to see the film?

  15. G.... P....

Its funny growing up in the 60,s some got hand me down clothes i got h and me down music and today still thankful for the 60,s and 70,s music

  16. M.... L....

First time I heard this song was in a botleg movie about 60's - 70's Mopar Drag Racing & Nascar domination! Suiting lyrics I thought. Persåkers B-rulle.

  17. V.... ....

Love this song!!! Especially the harmonica. ❤️

  18. G.... G....

    They're on streaming services now!

  19. W.... M....

Apparently this was the inspiration for The Monkees’ theme song. Don’t think my father ever knew that before he passed, he was a big fan of both. Especially DC5. RIP Pops...

  20. I.... ....

This would probably sound worlds better if they attached cords to those electric instruments and plugged them in.

    I.... ....

THAT - IS NOT - how Tv Studio tech worked back in THE Ancient World of The 1960's... We should just ALL be grateful that it is on COLOR. LOL x MAX

    I.... ....

    P.S. LOVE the H.A.L 9000 reference... Very cool... : )

  21. i.... ....

they kick more ass that the Beatles

  22. s.... d....

In my humble opinion the Dave Clark 5 were musically better than the Beatles at the time.....good mods aswell

  23. V.... T....

My only complaint is the camera focuses on everyone EXCEPT Mike Smith who is the lead singer.

  24. J.... s....

The younger generation giving the establishment a challenge!

  25. m.... ....

Great teen song! I was a freshman in High School!

  26. M.... S....

This particular song was always one of my favorite by the DC5 . Great sound. Great memories.

  27. R.... R....

I grew up on this music. Love it.

  28. E.... B....

  29. b.... g....

    I loved these guys.

  30. p.... t....

Didn't they did the film with the same title of the song was?

  31. J.... T....

Just a rocking reviver of the soul. Catch us if you can! An ultra groovy sound!

  32. j.... p....

My team Shrewsbury Town run out to this and have done for years

  33. S.... P....

Great Song!🎵😎60s 70s 80s and early 90s music is cool. I enjoy all kinds of music .🎼🎶Real Instruments Real Voices Real Music .🥁🎸🎹🎤❤ sixties music 👍❤✌🇺🇸

    S.... P....

    Real Talent!

  34. J.... D....

Part of the marvelous British Invasion, very good music from an underestimated band.

  35. k.... ....

    My favorite band, don't care...

  36. Y.... J....

Dennis Archibald West Peyton Is playing the harmonica

  37. C.... H....

These guys put the Beatles to shame!

    C.... H....

Connie Howard the Dave Clark 5 were a great band and Mike Smith’s voice was great but no comparison to the creative influence of the Beatles.

    C.... H....

Visual Paranormal Investigations I liked both bands too, but what the Beatles did to music, culture, fashion and hair styles alone was unprecedented and 50 years later tells us the Beatles had more impact on music than any band in history, and it is not even close

  38. B.... ....

Every time I hear this I think of the kids running after The Beatles in the opening of A Hard Days Night.

    B.... ....

The DC5 also made a movie where girls also ran after them. Wander if youtube has the movie?

  39. K.... C....

one of the VERY best songs of 1965!

  40. M.... D....

Love the DC5 ALL THESE GREAT BANDS GONE WISH THEY WOULD HAVE BANDS LIKE THIS AGAIN .AT LEAST YOU COULD EVERY WORD .MISS THOSE DAYS

  41. D.... F....

Who is playing bass on this song? I hear one, but I don’t see one.

  42. R.... S....

The singing in this video is a little different than the original single, the whoops part.

  43. R.... F....

Shout out to Libertyville,Illinois and the long ago drag racing days!

  44. R.... B....

    CATCH ME if YOU CAAAAAAAAAAAN....!!!!

  45. L.... U....

These songs are among what can be now called the latter day classics. It's the raw energy of these types of songs that sadly today is missing.

  46. O.... E....

    paisanos de hug grant

  47. G.... R....

Really captures the mindless exuberance of 60's youth. Nothing but blue skies, a '67 Alfa Romeo, a full tank of high test gas, your best girl, and $25 in your pocket, while the never ending open road beckons ahead with this song blasting away in the warm California night air.

  48. A.... F....

this is a song about banksters too big to jail .

  49. S.... B....

I always preferred the DC5 to the Beatles.

  50. F.... F....

    FRANK. FERRIERAS.

  51. j.... ....

They were far more popular in the US than the UK

  52. D.... M....

    DC 5.....wowzer....one of the best...clean cut good music...Today is September 24,2018...so that's like 50 years ago....Rock On...Live On..DC 5

    D.... M....

This came out in 1965 !

  53. M.... B....

Inspiration for "Theme From the Monkees" From the Finger Snaps to the "Here We Come" Lyric Opener! BTW,the Mono Original had a Different Break in its middle than this version.

    M.... B....

    You related to Tommy Boyce??

    M.... B....

@Doc Reasonable Nope i get that all that all the time.

  54. J.... W....

People are always weeping over the loss os a sixties band. hey me too, but look at American history, americans went to war, with bob hope, bing Crosby, the women bans, and or music girls, they made serviceman believe our government would trudge on. same with korea, Vietnam, and all other wars. don't think American boys don't like their women music, and looking at a nice ass from their lockers....send thm girls, amateurs are even more liked.

  55. R.... B....

Mike Smith was a helluva singer. Miss you Mike

  56. M.... w....

held there own vs Beatles from 1964-66

    M.... w....

In the US they did, they only had one number 1 in the UK in that time period...

  57. J.... G....

Hard to believe this band is what influenced the Van Halen brothers to quit classical and go into rock music. So this band inadvertently influenced all the big hair bands of the 80s by putting Van Halen into gear as the most influential guitarist of the late 70s and 80s. Figure that out.

  58. T.... ....

I love the sound of them Rogers drums!!

    T.... ....

    Tempo it’s dave’s drums

    T.... ....

Jimmy Eusebio he didn’t play drums on the records.

    T.... ....

Wow didn't know those were Rogers .

  59. B.... S....

We will yell with all of our mite? I always thought it sounded like WeeWee Illinois on our mind!

  60. T.... U....

Bought their album when it came out..I was 11 or so

  61. q.... ....

Mike Smith was the heart of it all; so sad how his health betrayed him in the end.

    q.... ....

You know he fell & was paralyzed.?

  62. J.... ....

Wish I could of had Mike's Vox!! Wonder what ever happened to it??

  63. s.... l....

    They were the BEST!

  64. j.... f....

    what was the film?

    j.... f....

The film was called 'Catch us if you Can' though in the US it was retitled 'Having a Wild Weekend', not a great film, very rarely on TV in the UK.....

  65. R.... ....

    As good as the Beatles

  66. B.... W....

Have loved this song for 50 years or so. Very original chord progressions indeed for those days ...

  67. 3.... ....

How Can anybody hate This Band??? Back in the 60's I Listened To DC5 as a young 7 year old ...What A Great Band!!!!!

    3.... ....

only PC bathroom confused millennials hate real music

    3.... ....

@Sir Loxley Mendoza Why the hell do you care. It's not like older people liked this and you probably didn't give a shit about Frank Sinatra.

    3.... ....

@MIKECNW Loved Frank too. Check out the charts back in 64,65,66,67. Frank,Dean Martin & Sammy Davis were all on it back then. Great music that will not ever be done again.

    3.... ....

321reh great catchy songs, I love them 👍

  68. L.... P....

DC5 was the best. I understand Mike Smith and Dennis Paxton have passed away. RIP.

    L.... P....

And Rick Huxley the bass player, his wife died one year before him

    L.... P....

Leland Paul Mike passed away two weeks before the DC5 got inducted into the R&R Hall of fame. So sad

  69. d.... ....

Great band, great sound, but Dave Clark on drums. Not so much.

    d.... ....

It was said that DC never played on their recordings...

  70. s.... ....

So sad to think only two still alive. They were fantastic.

  71. S.... V....

    Hey hey we're the monkees
    Oops, wrong band

    S.... V....

    This song came first

    S.... V....

Mauro Gajardo the joke was that Boyce and Hart inspired the monkees theme by this song

    S.... V....

Hope your joking. Mike Smith has the greatest voice in the history of RnR!

  72. S.... R....

Mike Smith had a underrated soulful voice!!

    S.... R....

    @WytZox1 Lennon wasn't much of a guitarist.

    S.... R....

    "Underrated"??...by whom?

    S.... R....

@Chip Gaasche Macca is Numero 3 but it's a close call. That's how much I like "Boomer's" singing. Obviously Paul has the chops as well. "I'm Down" proves that.

    S.... R....

    * True but although Beatles did have other musicians backing them on some of their later recordings they did mostly play their own music & Lennon did have great guitar & bass from George & Paul. They did great live appearances. DC5 as good as their songs were mainly British invasion wannabes who rode Beatles' coat-tails and did well on charts for a few years indeed leaving behind some great hits despite limited instrumental talent. ☺

    S.... R....

@WytZox1 John Winston Lennon has always been underrated as a guitarist. He was a very clever rhythm guitar player that could play blistering lead as well.

"Pet Sounds" is usually ranked as the second most influential Pop/Rock album. All of the musicians appearing on that LP were session players. Compositions by Brian Wilson using "The Beach Boys" on the vocal tracks. Obviously the work has been a huge critical as well as a commercial success.

The DC5 were hardly British Invasion "wannabes" You give yourself away as not having a clue as to what in the hell you are talking about. At one time the DC5 challenged The Beatles' supremacy in the U.S.

Using session players expanded what groups could do with the Pop/Rock genre. Early on The Beatles utilized producer George Martin's skill as a pianist even though Paul could play piano very well. You comment as if it's a negative to augment the sound and the development of the music. As stated previously, you are clueless and your posts irrelevant.

  73. C.... C....

memories of this were mom, dad, brother, any adults actually, catch me if you can

    C.... C....

Carol Colose ...I was never caught in the loft in the school multipurpose roo with my love...they couldn't catch us. Couldn't stop us. Great great fighting for independence of parental screws & control! DC5! YUP.😗

  74. g.... g....

    love them..

  75. b.... ....

One of my fav bands back then.

  76. R.... ....

Great music! And love those old RCA image orthicon cameras!

  77. b.... ....

The DC5 had more Ed Sullivan appearances than any other rock band, the Supremes' were second.

    b.... ....

Beatles would have been number one. yes look it up....Always busy.

    b.... ....

    I remember I loved the DC5

  78. R.... M....

"we were young with all of our might, catch us if you can" Does a lyric reveal anything more about the period (mid 60's)? Captures the time, and what a time it was. Summertime at the public pool, high dive board performing (not a relic of the past, due to liability concerns)- all while KENO radio blared from the loudspeaker, the songs of that magical summer (65). "Because" (DCF), "Satisfaction", (guess who?) etc.

    R.... M....

I think it's "We will yell with all of our might", goes with "getting angry".

    R.... M....

still, it conveys the same message. I don't think the British Invasion bands were in anyway 'angry', nor would they incorporate such an actual lyric, saying such. Now the Who, who (no pun intended) were just getting started then ('64), made a living of such a sentiment in some of their songs. Of course now, with the 'hood' being brought into mainstream consciousness (thanks America), the book on the topic. (anger) has been re-wrote. It's one area in which I gladly concede, that blacks can have their claim to originality.

    R.... M....

    that is so gay...

    R.... M....

We want out with all of our might

  79. J.... P....

    Hooligans I tell ya...

  80. R.... C....

I love this song the harmonica Solo in the middle sounds beetle lesk

    R.... C....

That's because every group that came out of England during the British Invasion copied the Beatles.

  81. m.... ....

this was the best period in british pop music. It will never be better than this.

  82. a.... ....

lots of lip synching back in those days. I hear from people who attended their live shows that they were a very good live act.The sound didn't always come thru on tv as DC wished so they faked it a lot!!They sold a lot of records & were one of the most successful of that era.

  83. G.... E....

Love these early 60's groups. Real music, not like the rubbish today

    G.... E....

    Thank you!

    G.... E....

More like the middle 60s....their sound is more 60s...the early 60s still had that doo Wop sound.

    G.... E....

    @Ben Rayonez
They formed in late 50s and their sound is most certain rock and roll but with a little bit 60s sound.

    G.... E....

Real music like lip syncing, no microphones, no overhead mics, nothing plugged in? At least the record they were playing was cool

  84. C.... R....

great song if your bang at it catch us if you can lol quality of the highest degree

  85. I.... B....

Very good indeed, but which one of them did the lead vocal? I understand that they'd take turns at that

    I.... B....

Mike Smith , the tall, good-looking keyboardist, almost always sang lead. RIP

  86. N.... P....

    SUPERB !!!

  87. R.... W....

    Got the Beatles swing nailed

  88. b.... ....

"Live" performance, eh? Once again with their magic cordless guitars... LOL

    b.... ....

bass0111 I always prefer the DC5 'unplugged'! lol, and howabout that big budget backdrop?!! Go-Go Girls would be a big plus (always). Still, for 60s tv it's 'fab gear'. 😎

  89. M.... M....

Let's pretend there is no lead singer named Mike Smith.

    M.... M....

Band should have been called "The Mike Smith Five".

    M.... M....

Martin Macdonald then theres no dave clark five simples

    M.... M....

Yes Mike was the lead singer & wrote most of the bands songs, though DC insisted having his name credited, a sore point with the late Mike Smith..

  90. E.... ....

Every time I see another 10 year old talking on a cellphone or another batch of ' selfies ' being shown everywhere, my heart yearns for these days. Love the modern tech in medicine, but in terms of music and culture - send me back please

    E.... ....

    me too please.

    E.... ....

book a seat for me to.

    E.... ....

    take me too.

    E.... ....

No cell phone but this tablet im using to catch all these treasures on here, old school but on board with whats right today

    E.... ....

I’d go back with you but having all this old stuff at our fingertips is great

  91. L.... S....

    Awe!! So Sweet,

  92. A.... L....

    oldie but a goodie

  93. J.... A....

The Prop Guys couldn't find a Bass Guitar for the Bass player so they gave him some cheap Pawn Shop prop guitar to air-play with LOL

    J.... A....

What a clueless remark. Huxley is playing a Burns Vista Sonic bass guitar.
    http://henkbloebaum.nl/My%20Guitars/Burns%20Bass/Vista%20Sonic%20Bass%20%204095/Goed!%20IMG_2274.JPG

    J.... A....

bass0111 You de Man! AND the guitar's the $$ Gibson ES 3Whatever, not the Epi Casino. Would bet you know the model # of the weird-ass Vox bass that was pop. in that era 😀 Not the teardrop, or the later Mosrite ripoff solidbody. Yeah, that Ugly but Cool one... Uh-Huh. I don't have my blue books at hand...Thou knowest thy (fab)gear. 😎 Thanx 4 cheerin' me on this dark day: RIP Tom Petty.

  94. S.... T....

Those were the days my friends.

    S.... T....

Bob Anderson ...We'd sing and dance forever & a day....
    Next!.....😄

  95. F.... F....

This was always one of my favorite songs, but they were obviously syncing over the recording, no amps or mics, & that's something you never saw the Beatles do, they always played live! They couldn't touch the Fab Four.

    F.... F....

    oh really Part 3... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rblYSKz_VnI

    F.... F....

Educate yourself, Barbara. Sure they did.

    F.... F....

The DC5 did live concerts..but they lip-synced often. Btw, Gary Lewis certainly sang on his records!

    F.... F....

Frederick Fargher ...Fargher... fab four forever phonies....compared to DC5! YUP.😗

    F.... F....

The whole premise of this video is to satirize. No energy, editing out of time, weird clothes, weird poses, bad lip-syncing, no cables, bad posture... They are so awesome that even when they tried to make the worst clip ever they are pretty good.

  96. g.... ....

Obviously not the record. Sounds like live singing over prerecorded music?

    g.... ....

Yes, NOT the single, the stereo LP version but still prerecorded.

    g.... ....

It was what we had before music videos, stars would film their recordings for promos in other countries..

    g.... ....

Yes that would be correct. Mike Smith still sounded note perfect.

  97. d.... ....

    DC5.So greatly underrated.

    d.... ....

underrated by who? not those of that generation.

  98. f.... R....

Guau! no tuvieron nada que envidiarle a los Beatles este grupo Dave Clark five fue muy buen grupo musical

  99. R.... U....

there's no going back but listening to this great old song reminds me of places and people; thanks so much for sharing this

    R.... U....

Hey Randy,  Thanks for the feedback...GLAD you enjoyed it.    :  )

    R.... U....

    Any Shrewsbury fans out there

  100. f.... f....

Simple song, but still better than garbage of today.

    f.... f....

    frank ferro correct

    f.... f....

The Monkees Theme was based on this song. You can hear the similarities

    f.... f....

Glenn, yes this song CATCH US IF YOU CAN - is what TOMMY BOYCE and BOBBY HART used as the base for their MONKEES THEME song - for sure- Joe Nania

    f.... f....

    frank ferro totally!!!!

    f.... f....

All the old songs had soul and very in cheesy fun tarts what music should be about fun and excitement and doubts man I was born in 1994 and the music my parents had were the classics like Gary glitter but who cares about his past anyway I like his music anyway
