Daughter - To Belong Lyrics

Don't you think you'll be better off
Without me tied around your neck, it's like the way your
Body pulls me underneath where I can't breathe
I'm tired of talking, I've been screaming all day

Don't you think we'll be better off
Without temptation to regress, to fake tenderness
Waiting to see someone we won't know for long
In cities we'll only leave

Don't you think we'd be better off
Without the pressure to address
A room of faces
Waiting to hear some strange women speak in tongues
On lonely fridays of my loveless drunk, baby
Loveless drunk, baby

I don't want to belong, I don't want to belong
I don't want to belong, to you, to anyone
I don't want to belong, I don't want to belong
I don't want to belong, to you, to anyone
I don't want to belong, I don't want to belong

Don't you think we'd be better off
Without the pressure to address
A room of faces
Waiting to hear some strange women speak in tongues
On lonely fridays of my loveless drunk, baby
Loveless drunk, baby

two years since my first post, and I am staggered that this wonderful track has not attracted more views and comments.
people say that modern music is inferior to what has gone before .
They are wrong and I have lived through most of the rock and roll years (54 /2018)

    K.... B....

Thank you for your well-considered response! A few of the names ring a bell and I will definitely give a listen to all of these. I actually listened to old school rock and roll when I was younger and then more modern rock and roll, and modern indie music like Daughter's has slipped under my radar. It is wonderful to discover new music after listening to similar bands for years.

    K.... B....

By old school rock and roll do you mean .Music from the 1950's like Elvis P, Buddy H, Eddie Cochran ?
I tend to classify music from ""the rock and roll years (1954/2018) into two categories' . The pre punk years (before 1976/77 essentially), and everything that has come after :
My motto has been for a long time
"why can't people like Different kinds of music" and .........
"Great music has lived lives and will live "
I was going to delay doing this but I will also give you a list of my fav tracks of all time from 54 onwards .
Fleetwood Mac (UK) The green Manalishi (1970) - my fav track from the last 64 years !! coruscating psychedelic masterpiece from Peter green
The Beatles -(UK) - and I love her (1964) - Still my fav band of all time . This track is simple and beautiful. Paul wrote this for his girlfriend of the time the beautiful actress Jane Asher
Led Zeppelin (UK) Communication Breakdown (1969) - still the best hard rock band ever . Sheer excitement !
The Beach Boys (USA) - God only knows (1966) Effortless beautiful. untouchable genius
The Byrds (USA) - Eight miles high (1966) - Melodic briliance
The Doors (USA) - waiting for the Sun- (1967) - great track
The Rolling stones - (UK) -let it loose (1971) - love this !
    The Velvet Underground - All tomorrow's parties (USA/UK) - 1967). Noco's world weary vocals . a anthem for tomorrow
Sparks- (USA) - Amateur Hour (1974) - very clever . I like to sing this in the shower !
The Only Ones - (UK) - Another girl another planet (1978) - perfect pop song
Joy Division - (UK) -Novelty (1979) - we all have to answer this question sometime ?
Wall of Voodoo (USA) - Mexican radio (1982) - best band live I have ever seen , and my No 2 band of all time behind the Beatles'
Dead can Dance (UK/Australia) - Indoctrination -an ideal for living (1985)
10,000 Maniacs (USA) - The painted desert (1987)- beautiful.
    Portishead - (UK) _ Roads (1994) - fantastic track .
Innocence Mission (USA) - someday coming - The perfect pop song . effortless and beautiful
PJ Harvey (UK) white chalk (2008) from her best album IMO

I gonna stop there as I am getting close to the modern era and there is a little bit of overlap with those tracks at the bottom of your list.

Hope I have not overwhelmed you ! take your time I hope I have "opened a window " in to another world . Music like reading has always been important to me. And ALWAYS WILL BE !
Just enjoy. Play loud . I mainly play my music at home on an old Hi Fi . I like to get my cat dancing ! (LOL) .
"Old Murphy" my one eyed cat (23yo) is used to me by now
used to have a three legged cat too
An old girlfriend of mine said
"Keith you do seem to be a supporter of the Underdog or should that be Under cat" (LOL)
    nuff said !!

A short reply before returning to work: some of my first favourite bands were the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. But I have to admit I didn't explore those eras extensively and soon moved on to Aerosmith and some Finnish metal rock bands. I do know the most famous singles from various bands, so there are some familiar names here as well. I agree it's very satisfying to discover some less known bands and support them because they often have more freedom to try different things with their music. Cheers for the list, again.

@Keith Bate I'm a bit slow in getting into new music but I have now decided to add Lykke Li, Laura Pergolizzi and Agnes Obel on my favorite lists. The Church sounds amazing too - interesting how you can usually instantly tell the decade the music is from. But overall it seems I'm into indie and folk right now and can't get into any new rock music.

Do you know Skyclad? Folk rock is quite special to me and some older bands are really good.

    K.... B....

@TheHulluliini Hi and Happy New year !
Love Lykke (her 2018 album was in my top five of the year ), Laura Pergolizzi (her 2017 album was my fav of that year . New album out in Two weeks time , and seeing her live in May . Think LP is one of the greatest artists' of any era ) . Agnes Obel is wonderful too . Saw her live two years ago and she was excellent.
The Church formed in the early 1980's and are still around touring and recording . But I prefer their 1980's albums to the more recent material. Tracks like "Fields of Mars" , "Almost with you" , Constant in opal"
If u you like folk you may like early 10,000 Maniacs . Their debut album is very folky eg " Back of the moon" , "lily of the Valley" . The lead singer Natalie Merchant was heavily influenced by the seminal English folk band of the 1970's /80's Fairpoint Convention esp the music with the late great Sandy Dennys. If you have not heard of FC and Sandy D and you like folk you could not fail to be impressed by them)
An excellent modern folk band are the Dublin based Irish outfit Lankum whose "tired old fire" is coruscating.
You may also like Freya Ridings "lost without you"
No I had never heard of Skyclad , and I must admit I did not even know that a genre called "Folk metal " existed (lol) . I have listened to one track but I need to listen too more before casting judgement !
    Happy listening for 2019

I'm not sure how no one is hearing the horrid quality of this. Disclaimer: I'm not saying the song itself is bad however the upload quality that Xooomix put in this is garbage.

  7. A.... D....

Never understood this song fully until my own relationship didn’t work out

    A.... D....

same. Things just started blossoming w me and my best friend (we ended up dating) when this album came out. For some reason I remembered it as a really nice, uplifting, positive album. We broke up like 2 months ago now, and this album is definitely all but that. Crazy how emotions influence music so deeply

    A.... D....

    That’s deep

I love music that falls into your ears like a waterfall cascading down from a mountain, this is one fine example

  13. K.... B....

track of 2016 from my second fav album of 2016.
coruscating brilliance from Daughter . They remind me a little bit of the Passions from the new wave era of the late 70's /early 80's eg The square, I'm in love with a german film star etc

  14. 9.... s....

Im tired of talking I've been screaming all day ..

  15. S.... W....

Really depressing to hopeless romantics like myself, romance is dead. It's really dark but even its passing is ironically romantic and beautiful. Fraility and fleeting, it's precious because it doesn't last like that of a flower. The purity is what lives on in the observer.

    S.... W....

If you are a romantic, then how is romance dead?

    S.... W....

It's not dead buddy, you're just stuck in your thoughts. Been there myself - sounds like a depressive thought to me. Romance is an option for every individual, it will always exist.
