I've taken a break from my nearly (off and on) monthly Friday night gig for the past ten years playing music videos at the local pub. I seldom, if ever, pandered to popular tastes and opted instead to have an artisanal, handcrafted, bespoke and curated selection of the odd, off-beat, strange and bizarre from all genres and styles. I don't miss the drunk idiots with their stale cigarette breath in my face rudely demanding, instead of politely requesting, I play the likes of "Guilty Feet" i.e. Careless Whisper, "that song with that girl", some slow, sad Country song that reminds them of the ex or an extended remix of a Tool song no one but them likes. This gem reminded me of all the times the first few notes would play of an old video someone in the crowd saw and liked on MTV long ago. They would stop for a moment, slowly turn towards the video screen, and smile.
