Darin, Bobby - Skylark Lyrics

Skylark
Have you anything to say to me?
Won't you tell me where my love can be?
Is there a meadow in the mist
Where someone's waiting to be kissed?

Skylark
Have you seen a valley green with spring?
Where my heart can go a journeying
Over the shadows and the rain
To a blossom covered lane

And in your lonely flight
Haven't you heard the music in the night?
Wonderful music, faint as a will o' the wisp
Crazy as a loon, sad as a gypsy serenading the moon

Oh skylark
I don't know if you can find these things
But my heart is riding on your wings
So if you see them anywhere
Won't you lead me there?

Oh skylark
I don't know if you can find these things
But my heart is riding on your wings
So if you see them anywhere
Won't you lead me there?

Bobby is too brash and confident to make this sad song full of longing really work IMO

Well, your opinion is your own! You are mixing up personality and music, they are to be appreciated very differently! Bobby's music was great, he was a real talent, played numerous instruments, wrote lyrics and composed music, and he could dance and act as well. He did not expect to live past age 16, so he can be forgiven for trying to do it all before he passed away. Yes he was cocky at times, but that is sometimes a defense action when you are frightened of what may happen in the time you have left in your life (and not knowing how much time you have, and is easily forgiven.).

a bit too old fashioned for our dear Bobby ! here are the lyrics for Kenny who found the song "awesome": Skylark, have you anything to say to me?
Won't you tell me where my love can be?
Is there a meadow in the mist
Where someone's waiting to be kissed?

Skylark, have you seen a valley green with spring
Where my heart can go journeying?
Over the shadows and the rain
    To a blossom covered lane

    And in your lonely flight
Haven't you heard the music of the night?
Wonderful music, as faint as a will of the wisp
As crazy as a loon, sad as a gypsy
    Serenading the moon

Skylark, I don't know if you can find these things
But my heart is riding on your wings
So if you see them anywhere
    Won't you lead me there?

Another wonderful collaboration between Bobby and Johnny Mercer.

    P.... A....

And don't forget - Hoagy Carmichael wrote the music.

    P.... A....

Yes, great collaboration but I'm pretty certain the Billy May Orchestra is the band on this track.

    And......Ray Eberle.

Never heard it before...thanks a lot for the sound quality.  Tried to send a message but yours is not available. Is there any chance for you to add Cry me a River studio or live but with the same quality of this one? only if possible please.  Thanks in advance

Admittedly I have always disliked this song. Then I heard Bobby do it.  Still don't care for the song itself, but Bobby's is the only version I'd willingly listen to.

How could anyone "dislike" this song, it's such a great old standard!  From way back in 1941 by Johnny Mercer and music by Hoagy Carmichael.  Interestingly enough, it is SAID that Mercer had a rough time creating the lyrics after he got the song from Hoagy, becaue he was bothered by a crush on Judy Garland!  Don't know how true this is, but Mercer wrote MANY great songs, and, of course Hoagy is known for putting some of the greatest lyrics to music.  Both, extremely talented guys!  As was Bobby, who sung this lovely song!

    Realy the greatest.
    Who's the sax player ?

I believe this is Billy May playing on this one.

    He is the greatest!!

My goodness. This is so smooth. I'm sure that I began listening to Bobby on the Ed Sullivan Show. He was the epitomy of cool. I wish I knew the arranger and sax player. Thanks so much for posting.
