Darin, Bobby - In Memoriam Lyrics

He's a ruthless opportunist
And he motivates by greed
He's just the way his father was
And that we sure don't need
So they all cried out destroy him
For he wants to see us drowned
They never understood him
So they put him in the ground.

Now some had stood for hours
And some sat on the grass
Listening to their radios
For where the train had passed
And a crowd will get impatient
As the clock hands turn around
They never understood him
So they put him in the ground.

They handed out some candles
To the somber weary crowd
And told us not to light them
Till our eyes beheld the shroud
Not even at that moment
Could there be tranquility
I could feel them push and argue
Hey, sit down, I cannot see
They never understood him
So they put him in the ground.

When the fathers closed their bibles
And the family left the site
The ropes and walls and hedges
Kind of faded in the night
Replaced by all the people
Who made a prayerful sound
They never understood him
So they put him in the ground.

Some people say the eighth of June
But the morning of the ninth
The workmen gently lowered him
By the beam of three work lights
Easy, take it easy
Set him down real slow
He'd been on some rougher trips
But he couldn't tell them so
They never understood him
So they put him in the ground.

Now no man has the answers
And he was just a man
And yet I can't help feelin'
That he knew a better plan
A shorter road to justice
On the trip that's freedom bound
But they never understood him
So they put him in the ground.

I loved Bobby Daren💖 Such a shame he left this Earth too young 😢 I’m so glad I got to see him at the Latin Casino in NJ, great showman!! We miss you Bobby but you’ll never be forgotten 🙏🏻💖

I remember the day I heard he had passed away...I broke down and cried. I was only in junior high, but i was a huge fan.

  4. J.... K....

What’s more tragic? That Bobby Darin died young or the fact we’ll never see the movie about his life because Kevin Spacey played him

  5. R.... ....

    Power voice.

Oh man that was good Mr. Jimmy Scalia thank you very much

Someone said once, during the Sinatra, Como, Damone etc. era: Wow, those Italians can really sing! It's so true, I don't know what that gene is in their make up, but they sure have it! From the Venetians in their Gondolas, to the fabulous opera singers, to the male and female singers of Italian heritage that we've admired for so long and still do, they are vocally superiorly talented, it seems! And Bobby had a tremendous influence on many singers during his time and long after. People recognized that his talent was special.
Well, the curtain finally fell for Bobby, but I still love him singing "The Curtain Falls" such a frightfully predictive song for him. What a talented, dynamic performer who had a superb voice! We will always miss him. (In the above film clip, his son has his eyes and his mother's smile.) Thankfully, we have a few recordings of Bobby's that help us remember the man who was tragically taken from us 45 year ago at age 37, but who didn't think he'd have that long so certainly made the most of his time here!

    INDIMENTICABILE BOBBY!

  10. J.... P....

There was only ONE Bobby Darin. Though we never met, I did know his late conductor, Bob Rozario. Bob and I had many conversations about Bobby Darin's talent. Bobby Darin was my boyhood idol, one of the many performers who inspired me to become an entertainer. I still am a fan and I miss his talent as we lost him much, much too soon.

    J.... P....

Bobby WAS special, and the impetus for many male singers of his era to pursue their talents! He was 100 times better than Elvis, who, most people don't realize, couldn't play much more than 4 chords on his guitar and didn't have much of a vocal range either, but that hip-shaking and hair hanging across his forehead, sure got the girls! Personally, I couldn't see much past that sneer, which was detrimental to many of us, but he WAS polite, yes-maam and no-maam, etc. But his talent was NOTHING like Bobby Darin's!

Bobby Darin TheGreatest showman That Ever Live the man could sing any kind of song Rock and Roll - Jazz - Country - Folk -Pop - Standards - and in 1968 recorded a song called Me And Mr Honner which if you take out the guitar could be the very first Rap record I saw Bobby just once at the Copa in 1972 he could do Sinatra better Then Sinatra Bobby Rest In Peace Phil Caggiano

Thank you....I've enjoyed Bobby's talent since 1957/1958. I was a very young girl and met him at a record promotion in Boston(Quincy ).

The best. Miss ya Walden Robert Cassotto.

  20. C.... ....

Great job, Jimmy!  Bobby was incomparable. Had he lived he would have been THE singer. He could sing jazz, pop, R&B, folk, etc. Who else before or since was so versatile? And as a live performer, he left them all in the dust. My Dad, God rest his soul, was the biggest Sinatra fan whoever lived. He owned every Sinatra 78 ever made. Yet, when he watched Bobby performed, he'd lean over and whisper: "Darin was better than Sinatra. I can see why Frank was intimidated by him." Not to take away from Frank, but Bobby could sing swing, rock, blues. He was a GARGANTUAN talent. God bless, paisano.

    C.... ....

ChristopherRosato GOOSEBUMPS on your comments! It affirmed my feelings and views all along! ( Ruby AC, new BD convert:-) )

    C.... ....

Frank Sinatra was NEVER "Intimidated" by anyone! But he always praised a lot of singers of his era, and he probably mentioned Bobby also, as those Italianos really could sing and they stuck together! Como, Vic Damon, Tony Bennett, and others as well.

  21. Z.... ....

Thank you Jimmy for this moving tribute to such a great, great man. I cried a tear at the end.
