Dan Fogelberg - The Nature Of The Game Lyrics
Fools run
Where an angel fears to follow
We’ve come to a place no fool would go
Sparks fly
And the truth rings harsh and hollow
We’ve sung so long
It’s the only dance we know
Hard times
When the threads of love unravel
The arms stretch
But the hands don’t ever meet
True love is a rocky road to travel
You better get out of the kitchen
If you cannot stand the heat
Bad blood - hostile words get spoke in anger
Caught up in a game where no one wins
Our heads tend to disregard the dangers
While our hearts hang in the balance
And the wheel of fortune spins
Why must every heart I trust desert me
Why must it always end the same
Fate deals the last one down and dirty
It’s the hands you keep
That make you weep
But that’s The Nature of the Game
Cold eyes stare at you across the table
The stakes rise
With each moment you delay
Hang tough
If you still believe you’re able
Or else play your hand
The best you can
And get yourself away
Why does every heart
I trust desert me
Why must it always end the same
Fate deals the last one down and dirty
It’s the hands you fold
That make you old
That’s The Nature of the Game
It’s the hands you fold
That make you old
But that’s The Nature of the Game
It’s the hands you fold
That make you old
That’s The Nature of the Game

Dan Fogelberg The Nature Of The Game Comments
A genius with the guitar, as with anything else he set his hand to! God I miss that man!
Hello JMEagle101 Long time no see...I used to watch your Fogelberg videos daily....I actually thought I had heard every song he had ever done, but somehow I missed this one. Thanks to you I now have another one to LOVE and another beautiful video that you ALWAYS put to the music! What an awesome song, but would we expect anything else from Dan? I still can't believe he's gone :( Anyway, thank so much again for all your hard work and dedication to sharing with us some of the finest music from one of the best musicians/poets ever! Peace to you my brother...
This video is stunning. I am so inspired by the outstanding guitar and haunting lyrics. Guess I should go play my guitar now. Thank you for such a beautiful video. :)
+Kathy Denise thank you Kathy, you have a beautiful channel, a little bit of everything, I like it. I didn't know you also favorite Eva Cassidy, then I should share with you a video I created in my other channel JMEagle103, please visit there and find the treasure, love and peace!
Thank you, I love Eva Cassidy. I try to play several of her songs on my guitar. She was a very special talent.
..Mr. JMEagle101: Dan Fogelberg has, without a doubt, written the most important songs for me on an individual level. I was inspired like so many others by Dan to try to do so many things in my life.....to reach for so much. I am also a very untalented, yet enthusiastic to create my own material, on my own..... songwriter. I don't think there's a single piece I have created over the years whereby Dan and Jimmy Webb cannot be heard as blatant influences. I MUST SAY, as a long, long, time Dan fan.....that you, sir, have created this treasure chest of Fogelberg videos, which have given so many of us yet another way of losing ourselves in that special place we go in our minds when Dan Fogelberg is our guide..... You are so gifted, inspired and determined by your own love of Dan and his music to keep doing this for yourself and those of us who are lucky enough to have found your work. I know that a large amount of inspiration is perspiration (I won't attempt to put an exact percentage on it as I know it varies from song to song) but I hope you continue to bring us these videos. Just when you think it would be impossible to enjoy Fogelberg's work (especially following his death) on such a joyful level again.... there were your videos. I was having trouble listening to Dan's music. It was your videos that made the sheer joy of Dan's work come alive again for me. What talent to synch such beautiful images to such beautiful music, thus bringing us that new way to connect to one of the greatest musical composers of any kind for generations. Thank you so very much JMEagle101. So much of your work has touched me deeply. "The Last Nail" comes to mind as one of your most memorable pieces of work to me. Like many other viewers I'm sure, it captures the excruciating experience of the "one who got away" so vividly, you can feel the pain as if it were happening in he present. However, I feel it's helpful to feel the important experiences in our lives, regardless of how painful they were at the time. With time, they are beautiful and cathartic. Anyone who's written or learned about poetry or lyrics knows what you write may not be pleasant, but poetry's province is all of life. Some pieces written about very ugly and unpleasant things can be beautiful if written about in a beautiful way. Thanks again, Mr. JMEagle101. You have married images and sound in a beautiful manner.
+George Bennett Dear George, thank you for writing me such a long notes in favor of the tribute videos I created for Dan Fogelberg and all DanFans, I really appreciate that. You seems to know my work quite well, indeed there were tremendous perspiration and sleepless nights for each video I created, I tried to capture the imagery beauty of Dan's lyrics, sometimes I am exhausted, trying to find one image for Dan's lyric, I ended up searched for 100 plus images and still not satisfied. Then there was a period of time the created videos were blocked in many countries, I was afraid my channel might be shut down totally, so I stopped production just trying to save what we already have. I am not a perfect person but I did the best I could to create each video, I do not have fancy video editing software to work with because of my poor computer skill, but I did the best I could to deliver, it's a learning curve and after several years' hard work, piece by piece, I covered many of his greatest hits, and I am so happy that my channel find its audience like you and hopefully you share it to your family and friends. May Dan's legacy ever on and one day I can proudly say, "Dan, thank you for your music and your ever-lasting love left behind, I walked the spirit trail, I've been there done that!" Many thanks to you George, you are one great friend! Wishing you all the best!
Thanks Bill! Hope you are well!
