Damned, The - Suicide Lyrics

It's too much confusion for a young man to take,
Look at my eyes that ain't easy to fake
I got no spirit left to break
I'll slash my wrists ain't no mistake
Help me... oh help me
Help me... oh oh help... me
Suicide suicide it's hap'nin' again
Suicide suicide I'm losin' my brain
Suicide suicide what can I do?
Gonna kill myself... because of you

I've lost track, of logical thinking
I'm sitting in a room, not even blinking
Into the darkness I am sinking
About to hear the angels singing
Help me, oh help me
Help me, oh heeeelp meeeeeee
Suicide suicide it's hap'nin' again
Suicide suicide I'm losing my brain
Suicide suicide what can I do?
Gonna kill myself, because of you

My mind's goin' round, faster and faster
The scripts been read and there's no disaster
I was in with a chance but I'm a bastard
I'm lying awake in a hospital plaster
Help me, oh help me
Help me, oohh help... me
Suicide suicide it's hap'nin' again
Suicide suicide I'm losin' my brain
Suicide suicide what can I do?
I'm gonna kill myself, because of you

    ロッケンロー🤩✨🤘

  2. J.... N....

Sounds a lot like The Wipers

  3. M.... O....

Brewzerr - sorry about the delay, My Man, but thanks for yer comment 9 months ago. It's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks like this. Rock on, Old Bean, rock on.

  4. T.... C....

I totally forgot about this one. The recent tour was good, Rolling Stone talks about it http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/punk-legends-the-damned-plot-north-american-tour-new-lp-w446409

  5. J.... ....

Reminds me a lot of The Wipers "potential suicide". Also sounds like a song that would be on Nirvana's "bleach" album.

    J.... ....

    I was thinking SY's Death Valley 69

    J.... ....

Well, the Damned were obviously a huge influence on Kurt Cobain. Just listen to ‘Come As You Are’ for proof. Nirvana basically ripped off ‘Life Goes On’ from Strawberries.

    J.... ....

Jason most definitely the first thing I thought was “man this sounds a lot like The Wipers” lol. Glad to see I wasn’t the only person thinking that

This song was most definitely on Machine Gun Etiquette, just depending on the version. I have this album on both vinyl and cd. This song, along with Ballroom Blitz, Rabid (Over You), and White Rabbit, are on the cd, but not the vinyl.

The Damned - as far as I'm concerned the ONLY 1st wave UK (or any country) punk band I've ever had any consistent time for, probably cos they were actually really good musicians on the quiet + they had a fantastic ear for both melody & pure anarchic noise (& they were great fun to listen to & watch). It's criminal that so many other punk bands - most of them just talentless posers, in my opinion - get billed above these guys. If no-one believes me, check out Machine Gun Etiquette (one of my ALL-TIME top albums 30+yrs after I first heard it) - speed, power, menace, fun, confusion, atmosphere, tub-thumping choruses etc. THIS one (B-side to 'Love Song', I think & not on the MGE album) is a lost gem - immense. Thanks for posting.

    Amen!!!

Well said. A big reason the Damned didn’t experience the same level of commercial ‘success’ as say, the Pistols or the Clash, is because they didn’t play by the stupid ‘punk rulebook’ that revisionists like Malcolm McLaren and the like made up (punk bands aren’t supposed to know more than 3 chords, etc). They were just too real for the critics and the music biz. They actually delivered on the promise of anarchy, chaos, and destruction... but they also knew how to play their instruments, and didn’t give a single shit if that was supposedly ‘punk’ or not. And they’re still with us, 42 years later. Can’t say the same for the Pistols or the Clash.

    M.... O....

    WELL, AREN'T THEY LUCKY.

    M.... O....

@Brewzerr - Nice one, Mate. Thanks - I agree with you ... AND with 'me' (4 years ago) as well ! Can't be bad, eh ? Go well.

  8. S.... ....

I think this song shows what a great drummer Rat Scabies actually was.

    S.... ....

And still is. Check out his latest single - “Chew On You”. The old boy’s still got it.

    S.... ....

    REALLY??????????????????????????????????

  9. K.... ....

    1979 and back in force.

  10. K.... M....

This isn't from Machine Gun Etiquette

@Phelim Heming  Always thought he left, as his pop career alienated him from them, they had no cash in '84, they had a makeshift record deal with a small outfit from Edinburgh or something. Yeah, he was gobby, the Captain, but that's why I preferred him to Lydon, cos he had the same subversiveness, but a hundred times nicer to folk haha.

    K.... M....

No; in Rat Scabies' diary in The Light At The End Of The Tunnel, he mentions a meeting they had after the GLC gig where they all agree that he should be dropped, even Bryn, who usually remained uninvolved.  The Captain was quoted in the music press that he was still a part of the band, but they, wisely or not, locked him out.

    K.... M....

@Phelim Heming  Bugger, I should know... I have that book. In a box in my storage room. Years since I read it. The full page poster for the 5th Anniversary would make a good t shirt.Yeah Scabies' diary was a bit shocking when my pal and I read it in '88. We saw depressing truths in that book.

    K.... M....

I did not find it really depressing.  Rat Scabies has that South London self-deprecation that may be a selfist construct.  But the Damned did get a bit of a commercialist jolt when Roman wrote all those hits.  Without National Insurance contributions, they would otherwise would have faced a poor future.

    K.... M....

    @Kelly14UK
Definitely the B-Side of Love Song as I still have it.

  11. G.... P....

kinda reminds me of black flag

    G.... P....

    Not really........
The Damned is too melodic. Think of this then Jealous again.
    Flag was way more angry.
They werent killin themselves, they were killin gigs.

  12. k.... ....

    Not on this album

    k.... ....

knackeroo it's on the reissue as a bonus track

  13. S.... ....

what a great song! The lyrics feet to a T to the sound...........Like a glove in the words of Jim Carrey

  14. v.... ....

came out wrong - I was half asleep - I like MGE, TBA, Strawberries, and Phantasmagoria quite a bit.

  15. v.... ....
