Damned, The - Rabid (Over You) Lyrics

I read about a bug eyed mad dog
Taking London in a storm
I heard about a blue eyed heroine
Screaming out for help
I held my breath as ten claws
Came through the cabin door
And timing forces slipped a cross
The traitor's sticky core

I was just a hero of the human race
But monsters keep on trying
To take control of space

I heard about a great new movie
That took the world by storm
People said the effects were groovy
The plot was personal
The garbage was whiter than white
The villain mostly dark
The hero was enlightened by light
Dogs began to bark

I was just a hero of the human race
But monsters keep on trying
To take control of space

You treat me like a dog
Give me a bone to chew
Frothing at the mouth
Frothing all over you
Yeah I get rabid over you
I'm kind of rabid over you
I'm kind of rabid over you

Your daddy's got a gun
He's gonna put me down
Compliments of public health
Horror teenage town
Yeah I've been bitten over you
I'm kind of rabid over you
I'm kind of rabid over you

Rabid rabid rabid

I can't stand the rain (rabid)
Water on the brain (rabid)
I'm kind of rabid over you
I just gotta hide (rabid)
I wanna bite (rabid)
I'm kind of rabid over you

I can't stand the rain (rabid)
Water on the brain (rabid)
I'm kind of rabid over you
We just gotta hide (rabid)
I wanna bite (rabid)
I'm kind of rabid over you

The Damned were the most underrated band of all time. This is a 80's classic. Dave Vanian was one of the greatest vocalists pop music has ever known.

  2. M.... C....

The Damned: a great band !!!!

+iWENT2pcs Aye. Love the dulcimer reverbs on it, too. Reminds me of sunny days. I fuckin love this song, a b side not even on The Black Album.

Good lord, this is great. This could be the greatest tune they ever did... At the very least, it could be MY favorite Damned tune, or at least in the top ten. Totally bracing, manic punk, with lots of fun shouty bits and raucous guitar, but at the same time, totally unorthodox with lots of weird and melodic stuff going on. There's a delirious and inspired performance by Dave Vanian (who strikes a great balance between unhinged lunatic and gentleman crooner), while the song itself totally eschews songwriting formula, with two or three distinct "parts" that appear, play once or twice, then vanish, never to fully return. There's also a couple of different choruses, too. Once you think you know what the chorus is, another part appears to muddy the waters. And then the whole thing gets washed down in a squall of Cap guitar and reverb haze. But still totally punk, and all under four minutes! The fact that this band isn't revered far and wide makes me very sad.

I was listening to it last night and yeah the song struck me as very unique and progressive- full of passages that blend in neatly. And yes all in about 4 minutes, less even. It's in my top 5, sometimes my favourite. It's also a gloriously happy tune, listen to the energy coming from the 4 of them, especially all those shouted out " Rabids". It was going to be a single, but ah well. When I first heard it years back, I thought it was incredible.

It's great no doubt about it but there are a surprising amount of great tunes from The Damned

  8. A.... P....

    my favorite love song.

  9. K.... ....

It's a unique song. I had a very bad quality bootleg in which the middle 8 ( You treat me like a dog give me a bone to chew ) was sung by someone else. Sounded nothing like Sensible or Scabies. Maybe it was Paul Gray.
There were versions of Chantilly Lace/ Arnold Layne / The Boiler Song on the cassette. Terrible quality though.

I seem to have had this song stuck in my head since I was 13, and its not a moment too long! Fast, furious fun.Another classic from the Damned.
