Cursive - Big Bang Lyrics

Before we ever saw straight, we were grasping at straws
A debate was born, picket lines were drawn
There was this big bang once, now we're learning to use our thumbs

We need a purpose in life, a survival guide
We need explanations for how we arrived
There was this big bang once, now we're standing on our own two feet
There was this big bang once, we've been sharpening up our teeth

They say there was this big bang once, but the clergyman doesn't agree, oh no
There was this big bang once, but it don't jive with Adam and Eve
Original sin, idyllic garden
Some talking snake giving apples away
What would that snake say if he could only see us today?
Ha ha ha!

There was this big bang once and we were left here to fill in the blanks
There was this big bang once, now we're aimlessly drifting in space
We're gonna need an explanation for rational thought
Enlightenment and the weight of our hearts
In a world of entropy, why can't we just simply be?
And don't feed me lines, intelligent design

There was this big bang once, why are we back down on our knees, huh?

    @crazykyle56
Honestly, if you really examined the science you would notice the scientific articles supporting intelligent design don't exist.  I'm not going to put you on the spot by asking you to cite one.  But let me be clear about one important thing - Even though evolution is true, and the big bang happened, that doesn't mean that there is no god who put it all in motion.  People who try to tell you that have a poor understanding of science.  Mutations themselves may be random as you say, but their cause of change in species over time is not random.  Think of it like "Research and development."  Edison said he invented "One thousand ways that you cannot make a lightbulb."  They all went into the trash.  That's like the majority of mutated animals, the mutation doesn't help them, they die, and that's the end of it.  But now we have lightbulbs that look nothing like Edison's because we started with the idea that worked and built on it, changing it over time.  That would be like a goat's mutation for hooves more suitable to climbing in mountainous areas.  He would be far more likely to survive and reproduce, and so would his offspring.  So even though the "tinkering with the lightbulb" was random, once a piece is in place, it stays there, so in the end, the process has an organizational logic to it. But listen Kyle, if you are a TRULY big man and are up for a potentially life-changing challenge of intellectual honesty, I recommend the books "Why Evolution is True" and "The Selfish Gene."  I took that leap once with an open mind and I now have an appreciation for the beauty and intricacies of this world that I never would have had before.  Good luck to you.

@Lance Tschirhart It's funny reading this now since the big band was recently debunked. It's weird how the things we hold to be truth change so frequently.

    L.... T....

Yes, that is interesting, isn't it?  The scientists have a good theory and they work day in and day out to prove that it is incorrect.  Sometimes a theory will pass all of the experimental tests until it is tested in just the right way, and then it is shown to be false in an instant.  Very strong theories with supporting evidence from many distinct fields, and ones which have passed barrages of experimental tests for decades or longer almost never are shown to be wrong entirely - it is enough of a shock sometimes just to see that the theory isn't correct in every single way, as it was previously thought to be.  For hundreds of years for instance, Newtonian physics passed every test you could throw at it, and it wasn't until we had the technology to investigate subatomic particles in detail that we realize "My God, Newtonian physics doesn't work for really, really, small things!"  But Newtonian physics isn't thrown out the window there - it is just readjusted to fit the new facts. And it's very lovely when that happens, I think.  In one fell swoop, "fact" is turned into fiction.  Science succeeds in destroying its own theory, eliminating one possibility and bringing us all that much closer to the truth.  :)  I wanted to get back to you Robert in order to let you know that I believe you must be mistaken about the Big Bang being debunked.  The last time I looked into it, the Big Bang was in better shape than ever.  That was about six months ago, so of course I could be incorrect here, but I the Big Bang is supported so thoroughly from so many sides that there is a lot that would have to happen in order to debunk it.  There would have to be a totally different explanation for the cosmic microwave background radiation for example, which to me is almost inconceivable - maybe it's just my lack of imagination! :)  If you would please send me your sources that you learned this from, I would love to read up on it myself.  It would be mind-blowing to me if you aren't mistaken here though, so you'll have to excuse my being skeptical until looking into it a little further.  Thanks in advance!  Lance

    L.... T....

@Lance Tschirhart My apologies. "Debunked" was the wrong word to use there. I should have specified by saying the theory of the big bang had recently been under a ton of scientific scrutiny ever since the physicist Saurya Das posted in the Physical Letters B journal back in February. It basically said that the universe was never a singularity or started from a dense point of matter. The second journal is being peer reviewed apparently will have more diffinitive information. But the new theoretical consensus is that the universe may have no beginning or end and is simply infinite.

Keep in mind I know next to nothing about science haha my above comment merely was just referencing what I had read, but I'd be the first person to believe I'm completely mistaken.

    @ Joe Obama
It looks to me like they were called in to interview for a music video and the person speaking to them did something to startle them a little bit.  That would explain why they chuckle afterward.

    L.... T....

It was a big bang that scared them

  9. J.... O....

wow you people who comment have nothing to talk about anymore. anyway, i'll get to the real questions that matter. What was happening in this music video? why or what was making those people do what they are? i thought they were hiccuping at first

    J.... O....

Joe Obama I think there was a big bang

  10. A.... V....

i think you were just being nice man. while i agree with the rest of what you said, the face remains that it IS science vs. religion. unless of course science somehow one day proves that there is a god. until then, science, while obviously not its main goal, is always debunking religious beliefs. but hell yeah, keep loving cursive! gonna see these guys in three days for my first time! soo pumpedd

  11. M.... p....

Never gets old. Top ten all time favorite cursive songs.

  12. R.... C....

C'mon, all you need to do is open door of your heart to da Lord cuz he stands at da door knockin waitin for you to allwow Him in....theres no need to hearden our hearts and then cry out to him in our distress or death bed. He came for those who need healing, not for those who are already "healed"

  13. f.... ....

well i believe in god, the big bang, and evolution. none of these things seem to contradict each other much, to me. :)
    am i that weird?

I also do not see why all of this matters, anyway. we all got here somehow, and arguing about something none of us will ever be able to prove one way or another is pointless.

  14. L.... M....

@krazykyle56 i believe you have it backwards, my friend. Atheists don't view this topic as science v religion; we don't see it as a fight so much as we happen to debunk your bronze age beliefs (surprise!) You in the religion camp have a term called 'irreducible complexity' which basically means something is too complex to understand it's mechanisms so god must've done it, and when scientists figure it out you guys get pissed.
All that shit aside, keep liking cursive, man.

  15. x.... ....

I knew when I came to this video that some idiots would be having a religion vs science argument.

  27. T.... ....

@OnlyHighWhenDriving "perpendicular" Now that is a mighty fine word. I must use that more often...... hehe.

  28. f.... y....

@krazykyle56 it just seems like subtle commentary on both sides, with the slightest hint of mockery in the direction of the christian creation story.

  29. j.... ....

this shitty band is a bunch of hipster douchebags. If I could smack them all I would.

  30. g.... ....

was that danger erin from jack ass?

  31. C.... ....

That was an incredible music video. Disregarding what a great song also, the video was outstanding. It made me feel feelings.

  32. E.... ....

I've always been a Cursive fan, especially when I was particularly love-stricken and heart-broken. I hadn't played them in a few years, and came across this today. This is newer? The sound is still great, and it's really neat how, at least in this song, the focus of the lyrics has changed...matured, become more philosophical. It pretty wicked.

  33. M.... ....

perfect video for one of my favorite cursive songs!!!

  34. L.... T....

    Love love love love love!

  35. D.... ....
