Cure, The - Club America Lyrics

I ride into your town on a big black trojan horse
I'm looking to have some fun
Some kind of trigger-happy intercourse
"club america salutes you" says the girl on the door
"we accept all major lies
We love any kind of fraud
So go on in and enjoy...
Go on in and enjoy!!!"

I'm buying for my bright new friends
Blue suzannes all round
And my mood is heavily pregnant...
Yeah you're right
I couldn't help but notice your icy blue eyes
They've been burning two holes in the sides of my head
Since the second I arrived

And it's not too hard to guess from your stick-on stars
And your canary feather dress
Your hair in such a carefully careless mess
That you're really trying very hard to impress

You're such a wonderful person living a fabulous life
Sensational dazzling perfectly sized
Such a wonderful person living a fabulous life
Sharing it with me in club america tonight...

So we talk for a while about some band you saw on tv
But I don't listen to you and you don't listen to me
Yeah it's an old routine but it's a very special part of the game
And you don't really care what I call you at all
When I can't quite remember your name

And it's not too hard to guess from your stick-on stars
And your canary feather dress
The way you're so carefully couldn't care less
That you're really trying very hard to impress

You're such a wonderful person living a fabulous life
Sensational dazzling perfectly sized
Such a wonderful person living a fabulous life
Sharing it with me tonight
Yeah you're a wonderful person living a fabulous life
Fantastic divine and thrillingly bright
Such a wonderful person living a fabulous lie
With me in club america tonight...

    The Top

THIS CD WAS THE FIRST CURE TRULY DISAPPOINTING EFFORT I HAD EVER HEARD! THIS SONG EPITOMIZES THE "ALL OVER THE PLACE" MOOD IT ENGENDERS

    M.... D....

That's the whole fucking point of this album!! The fact that the future and current state of the band at the time were in fact "all over the place" as you so poignantly quoted... you have to bare in mind Gallup was on vacation due to health issues, Thompson and Williams had left, they were auditioning for new drummers (cooper, who featured on the album for only 9 songs, as there were other drummers auditioning) and O'Donnell had only just rejoined, that meant at the start there was only Robert and perry who were working on it, the fact the album even came out 1996 is a miracle effort and the fact it charted at number 9 in the UK for six weeks is a huge feat in itself, overall this is by far one of the most underrated Cure albums by far and deserves way more respect than people give it credit. Each to there own taste though never expected you or others to get the album but if you don't get or understand this album then you will never truly understand the Cure...

agree...its not the best, but I still listen to it all the time all the way through. Its a fun album with a few deep gems. Bare is so heartbreaking. Jupiter Crash is dope. They play it all the time still. Want is fucking sick!!! Club America is cheeky and a rocker.

Unfortunately the whole idea of " Wild Mood Swings" didn't work for them... They way successful when they did the same idea and called it" Kissme kissme kissme" ! Both these other albums had ALL the bands influence. And unfortunately the loss of Boris Williams and Porl Thompson proved that a come back in 96 was not in the cards. Stick to albums that have Robert Smith's influence more. Such as Pornography , Distitegraion, Bloodfowers...

  12. S.... N....

One of their weakest songs and albums. WMS does include wonderful tracks like "Want", "Strange Attraction" and "Jupiter Crash" though.

    S.... N....

What do you mean? This is fucking awesome!

    S.... N....

They had four drummers for this album and this wasnt jason.

  13. A.... E....

    The Cure goes Madchester.

    Here, I'm digging it.

  14. c.... e....

    muy bien...
