While I like Jamie, this is the Mel Torme arrangement. They could have at least come up with some original horn parts. The biggest thing that stands out is that the alto player isn't Art Pepper. If you have ever heard the Torme version this comes off as karaoke.

This version has great musicality, swing, humour and his voice has that pleasant grrrrowlll...Just wonderful, totally jazz.

YES. I agree. He has the vitality and charisma that Darin had for sure. Mel's sense of jazz style. He is a mega star waiting to explode I feel.

Jamie is REAL. I may be crazy, but I hear Darin, Connick and Sinatra, even Mel Torme, all in that voice, yet its not an imitation anyone. Great promise here and now. A new favorite.

As much as I love Jamie, I don't doubt that Mel's is better. Is it on YT. I haven't found it as yet.

I don't think covers should be identical to the originals. That would be karaoke. I don't know how much copying is permitted for covers in other genres, but I know that when covering a jazz standard, copying is frowned upon.

Jazz players generally make new musical arrangements, change the tempo, and make it their own. Scatting is supposed to be completely spontaneous and improvised, so if the scatting is identical, that's just phony.
