Crowell, Rodney - Stars On The Water Lyrics

Down in Louisiana, bayous by and by
Pirogue pole or your natural soul
Keeps you tied to a tree high tide
Beer joint lights come on
And then the crowd starts rollin' in

Pretty soon you got stars on the water
You got stars on the water
It's like stars on the water, let it rain

Beaumont to Biloxi
Sea breeze at your door
Gypsy rains, dang hurricanes
White silver sandy shore
"Blue Light" lounge is shinin'
Way out on the view

It looks just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water, let it rain

When it's midnight down in Mobile
Moonbeams on the bay
They come from miles around to dance the jukebox down
And dig the good time sounds they play
All across the harbour
Night lights shinin' in

It looks just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water, let it rain

Pretty soon ya got stars on the water
You got stars on the water
It's like stars on the water, let it rain

I've loved this song from the first time I heard it. I used to play this on my all night show on WGOV-FM in Valdosta, Georgia in the early '80's. I would crank the monitors and rock the whole building. The AM jock would get a kick out of watching me lip syncing it! Fun job, great times, great memories.

  18. T.... S....

    I LOVE THE BEAT!

  19. L.... P....

I use to play this on the jukebox at the Knee-Deep Lounge in Madisonville, Louisiana in the early 80's

  20. J.... C....

at least rodney crowell doesn't need autotune like some people

    J.... C....

James Clark someone did a better job than Rodney

  21. M.... A....

I heard this song on a s radio station where I live went out and bought the song on record. Great song!

  22. T.... F....

1981. My first wife was a great Western swing and two-step dancer. We loved to two-step to this on the better floors in Austin, TX and Travis County in that day. I'm long gone from the Insanity that now exists there. / The rhythm guitar is fab. For my music tastes, the guitar solo should have been somewhat muted for better effect. / The van Gogh doesn't begin to fit "Stars on the Water." A better image would have been: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/01/15/24B7CB8E00000578-2911405-image-a-8_1421319327464.jpg or similar, under light(s). / Still, a sweet two-step.

  23. C.... T....

This is a really great song. Thanks for posting.

  24. D.... H....

this kimber but I love this song cuz I good at two stepping to this song

  25. A.... N....

I remember hearing this in dads 77 LTD on 8track as a toddler and loved it. George Strait should have left this song alone that auto tone crap sux. However I love George Strait awesome singer

    A.... N....

Andy Norvell George Strait never used auto tune.

    A.... N....

I don't think George uses autotune!I looove Rodney Crowell, love this song since I heard it on my dad's compilation album (forgot the name),Just heard George's version today&thought "Wow! He does it great!!!"

    A.... N....

if you listen to the recording of this song by Strait, there's a moment in the chorus where it sounds a bit robotic. Not sure if it's actually autotune or just sounds like it because of the way the backup singers' voices and his own interact. Nonetheless, it's still overall a nice cover of the song, and there's a recording of him performing it at the rodeo that doesn't have the issue, so anyone bothered by the issue can listen to that version instead.

    A.... N....

George had to have used auto tune... How else could he make himself sound like a robot??

  26. K.... C....
